Food shopping in my quite large local sainsburys was mission this afternoon no fresh veg apart from potatoes & carrots no turnips or swede.
No salad items, some apples half crate of tangerines & few mouldy looking bananas. Bread shelves practically empty apart from some small hovis loafs.
the meat aisle, had beef burgers some very small lamb joints, no beef or mince did spot some pork chops.

Mine was actually OK today, what Aldi didn't have, Tesco did and vice versa.

But the point is that we should not have to worry about it at all!

DuncinToffee · 24/02/2023 19:02

My Sainsburys was ok as well this morning, finally found some dried lasagna sheets.
But ok isn't really good enough.

Got back from Spain and called into a big Sainsbury's lunchtime on way home. Nowt. Zilch. Nada.
It's easier if I list what was available. Potatoes, carrots and yep... turnip!

I took a photo and posted it on Twitter like you do. (yes I'm one of those annoying people who does this!)
BBC contacted me and asked me if they could use it!
I think the fact the pic shows a big sign saying 'seasonal produce' and '5 a day' hanging above with completely empty shelves below did it!

countrygirl99 · 24/02/2023 19:40

DS arrived for a visit from Finland. He messaged yesterday to ask if we wanted him to bring anything over. Did consider asking for veg but settled for dumle, liquorice and glögi.

£40,000 for a shooting party & £50,000 for Abu Dhabi F1?
Fucks sakes.

Amazing that Barclay had time to attend fundraisers but not meet with junior doctors this week.

I’m not remotely amazed. Nothing they do surprises me any more. I never use the c word but they so tempt me.

Should we all be panicking?

Oh my goodness, you are right I meant swede not turnips! No idea why I call them turnips.

Just about everywhere north of the Midlands 'turnip' means swede.

I realise that but find it a tad weird!

Swede is orange when cooked and turnip is just... ummm... turnip!

pigsinoodies · 24/02/2023 20:34

My theory is that it's something to do with the Vikings.

I have been watching Valhalla, no mention of turnips or swedes

I’m not sure I can face the local farm shop tomorrow. It’s a proper one,not a fancypants Farmers Market type place. I’ve got some potatoes and veg and I don’t want to scrum for broccoli. Sainsbury’s delivery had everything yesterday. Delivery man said tomatoes and cat litter were a bit iffy, but everything else was fine.
Couldn’t even raise a bitter laugh at Coffey’s turnip and work harder bollocks. Beyond parody.

Well swedes/turnips are nice but they're hardly the food of the gods, even Norse gods.

borntobequiet · 25/02/2023 06:20

Baby turnips lightly boiled with lots of butter are lovely, but no substitute for a nice green salad. However as someone well into my sixties my winter salads tend to be different from summer ones, more seasonal vegetable based.

Rishi Sunak is planning to publish the text of his deal on Sunday

No 10 will then wait to see how DUP responds

But crucially if DUP doesn’t reject it outright Sunak is planning to push ahead

Eurosceptic Tory MPs have warned this will rip the party apart

A Boris Johnson ally says he’s told them he wants to return to No 10:

‘There is a chance if Rishi does catastrophically. It could be one event but it doesn’t have to be.

‘It could be people with majorities of 5,000 thinking: is he [Sunak] going to save my seat?’

https://twitter.com/stevenswinford/status/1629426651640520705?s=46&t=TTPhmwhAAfZLFS6Qbsiiw

It's like we are forever stuck in 2016. Still being threatened by the DUP and ERG. Johnson chuntering on the sidelines exactly as he did with Cameron & May. Waiting for the party to give up and just eat itself.

Roussette · 25/02/2023 11:15

My heart bleeds for poor Suella. She might be struggling to find a safe seat come the next GE.

I think she'll respond by going further to the right. We should expect more inflammatory language. 😬

I hope she does as, according to that article, she’s already too far right for most safe Tory seats. I’d love to see her ousted, she’s on my hit list.

Two points. If Sunak's deal is going to rip the Tory party apart then probably we should have a referendum on it, that worked well last time.

Given current polling I should have thought Tory MPs if they have a brain, with a majority much larger than 5000 should know what will happen at the next election.

Its good to see that Suella and the Tories understand the importance of living in, knowing and representing the constituency one is MP for...

And mine @Blossomtoes

Together with Rees-Mogg who now has his own chat show on GBeebies News. He is all over everywhere promoting it and telling everyone to watch it.

I did tweet that I would rather plant 1,000 cockroach eggs in my earhole than watch him on there Grin

In all seriousness, I absolutely loathe him for very many reasons which I could list here, but my post will break TG probably !

I've been hoping to get Drummond and thought she'd prefer the Other seat for ages.

I was gutted when I heard she wanted to remain in Fareham with the shake up.

Roussette · 25/02/2023 16:32

I'm with you itsgettingweird my MP is awful and 30 years in the seat and honestly thought he'd be retiring... I haven't heard yet, I live in hope

Special relationship -

Privately, Johnson was more robust in an extraordinary confrontation in the Commons chamber with his former lord chancellor, Sir Robert Buckland, who lobbied Johnson to back the deal, arguing that it was necessary to cement relations with President Joe Biden. In a move that startled MPs, Johnson was overheard replying: “F* the Americans!”
Allies of Johnson say he is contemplating another scene-stealing act to torpedo the deal and undermine Sunak, who it is said he still hopes to oust from Downing Street.
The former prime minister’s team says this is not language he or they would use, but admitted he had made the comments about the Americans. “This was a jocular conversation in the chamber that someone evidently misunderstood,” a source close to Johnson said.
