Morning all. All okay here. Hope your DD is okay @RunningKatie . Roll on half term as you say!

yesterday I did some work on our patio. Just clearing pots and stacking them and some sweeping. I have some tip runs to book in for next week!

Hope everyone has a great day.

Peridot1 · 10/02/2023 08:58

Morning all.

I’m still here but haven’t been doing much really. I tweaked my back on Wednesday quite badly. I woke the dog up I yelped so loudly and she then came and cuddled me and sat by me while DH was getting me painkillers etc. So had a chiropractor appointment yesterday- my pelvis was all out of whack with one hip twisted forward. I need to stop sitting with my legs crossed apparently. But it’s so hard!

DH helped me sort my Dad’s final tax issues so we are almost ready to close everything out finally and make the bank transfers.

I also had to go pick up my new glasses this week. Ordered one new set with frames and new lenses for a spare pair using my existing frames and same for sunglasses. So did that. Left frames to have new lenses put in and popped back to pick them up. To discover they couldn’t do my sunglasses as they were a frameless design so I had to pick a new set of frames. All good. Then woke up in the middle of the night thinking something was a bit odd with that. So checked and the sunglasses I’d taken in weren’t my prescription ones. So I could have used the other frames. I’d switched the cases as the case for my non prescription sunglasses is quite big. But forgot. And I discovered another pair of prescription reading sunglasses that I don’t use now that could also have been used. So I am now the Imelda Marcos of sunglasses! DH is looking for care homes for me apparently.

Today’s job list is to get a suitcase down from the attic, iron the summer clothes I’m taking next week and start packing. Did lots of washing yesterday which needs putting away too. Also need to double check the tax stuff and post it.

@petalpower - great use of the money you’ve raised selling your books. DH has done the same with our cd collection this week. A box is being collected today. He made the princely sum of £15 apparently! For a lot of cds.

@RunningKatie - hope DD is on the mend. I think this school term is often a nightmare of constant bugs. And yes your neighbour sounds a bit bonkers!

AllTheExtraClouds · 10/02/2023 14:33

Hello everyone :) You've all achieved so much and I'm still loving the snapshots of all your different lives!

A reasonably productive week here: pots repotted, car gleaming inside and out and shower curtain has been washed.

I downloaded the Batch Lady's book and have grand plans to get stuck into some proper smug cooking. That's this weekend's goal. Theory being I'll be able to get on with other stuff round the place, and specifically the garden, if I'm not faffing about wondering what I'm going to do for our tea. Plus DH and I are both getting a bit more hefty than we'd like so planned healthy dinners might help.

Hope poorly children and backs are on the mend very soon!

Aria999 · 10/02/2023 19:28

I have been quiet because I have achieved Nothing!

Been working, doing various kids doctors appointments, and have spent all of today trying to select paint for the bathroom.

We chose 1 colour but have been having trouble finding another color that goes with both the first colour and the rest of the bathroom.

Nothing too adventurous, we are talking a shade of sand and something pale.

AllTheExtraClouds · 10/02/2023 19:43

That does not sound like nothing to me @Aria999 Working/kids combo is plenty without trying to decorate a bathroom.

We just had a lovely meal out and a big glass of wine and I'm feeling all mellow. Yes, been, eaten and home before most people have headed out the door on a Friday night. That is how we roll in this house 😊

FatSealSmugSoup · 11/02/2023 09:04

I’m with @Aria999 in that very little has been achieved.

im just counting down the weeks left in this job now and am seeing a flurry of medical appointments coming up. I’d been having a wee panic about “what next”, but it looks like my treatment will start about the end of my contract - and as I have no idea how that’s going to affect me, I’m holding fire.

I did order some swatches for a new couch and put them to the vote. Word to the wise, remove the one you don’t like much (looks like it’ll require more cleaning!) from the pile before asking opinions.

Today’s little job - I’m going to put spare empty jars in a box in the shed.

RunningKatie · 12/02/2023 10:50

Morning all, half term here, I've got 3 days off work and a to-do list of epic proportions. Luckily the dc have also written a list which has essentials on it like bake cakes, bike rides and painting. Their list is way more fun so after a quick tidy round this morning I am embracing the list of joy!
The pavement up the road is still glistening, we all walked and scooted over it in an act of rebellion last night.

Peridot1 · 12/02/2023 11:18

Morning all.

I am in preparation for holiday mode. Catching up on washing. Making sure I have all my clothes ready. Did my ironing yesterday. Need a case down from the loft which DH will get in a while. Trying not to pack too much but I know I will!

Today’s jobs:

walk dog - done
put washing on - done but more to go
put washing away - done
vaccum
change DS’s bed
start sorting my clothes to pack
download kindle books
download a couple of movies
make more lists!

@RunningKatie - I agree your DC’s list sounds like the one to go for!

ComeTheSpringLobelia · 12/02/2023 11:51

Morning all.

Half term here as well. Our plans include;
-cafe afternoon tea
-pizza and a film
-funeral
-lunch out (me)
-lunch made by me for my bookclub (poorly scheduled on my part)
-bowling

I spent two hours on our terrace yesterday. I categorised my pots into 'chuck'; 'stack' and 're-pot'. I moved some potted trees to an area that needs some camouflage.

That is all for us!

AllTheExtraClouds · 12/02/2023 16:02

Hello! Lists of joy sound like an excellent plan!
I noticed lots of springy things this morning: snowdrops, daffs, primroses and catkins among other things. Really made my heart lift 💕
And I had a nap just, so it's a good day!
Still no smug cooking achieved. However while I was at work DH did a great job of getting the house ship shape and I'm counting his wins as my own 😂
I hope you have a wonderful time down under @Peridot1 and that those of you with half termers have a great week!

Aria999 · 12/02/2023 22:47

That's a great list from your DC @RunningKatie 😊

Have a great half term all!

FatSealSmugSoup · 13/02/2023 16:50

No half-term here boooo!

I appear to have bought more paint without starting completing the current paint jobs.

only a month and a bit left of work and then I can paint until my heart’s content/I fall over.

got a letter from my consultant today with a list of medicine to choose from, so that’s a nice research project.

told my dad about my future chickens. You’d have thought I was 12 rather than 50 the way he explained it to me. 😂

The days are already drawing out here and I’m loving it. Today was perfect sunshine and I waivered for a moment about getting the propagator out - then remembered I e got another 2 months (if not 3) of winter to go. So I beat a hasty retreat - discretion is the better part of valour after all.

ComeTheSpringLobelia · 13/02/2023 17:11

'told my dad about my future chickens. You’d have thought I was 12 rather than 50 the way he explained it to me. 😂''

Grin We call this the 'Shall I show you where the trains come in?' moment that Dads have in my family.

It came about when my dad dropped me off at a train station as I was heading out to meet a friend for the day. He said in all seriousness; 'Shall I show you where the trains come in?'

I was 40 at the time and it was in my home town.

FatSealSmugSoup · 13/02/2023 17:17

haha! I lived abroad for 20 years and my dad still checks I’ve packed my passport.

AllTheExtraClouds · 13/02/2023 18:33

FatSealSmugSoup · 13/02/2023 17:17

haha! I lived abroad for 20 years and my dad still checks I’ve packed my passport.

I am that parent! Though my kids are more well travelled than me 🙈
Though the most travelly one missed a plane through not setting his alarm, and once had to do an emergency dash to get a replacement passport because he'd lost it (typically found it after the hassle and expense of the new one)
But he does escort his old mum to and from the airport on the metro when I visit ♥

Aria999 · 13/02/2023 22:23

And I don't have to report for jury service <does a little dance>

Gives me the whole day tomorrow to get DS room cleared for the painters.

I spent about 2.5 hours on it at the weekend and it's better, but not finished.

Apparently there is an egg shortage at the moment @FatSealSmugSoup though I don't know if that's just America. It said in the news that lots of people are buying chickens!

AllTheExtraClouds · 14/02/2023 06:19

Morning all! @Peridot1 have you gone yet?
How is it going so far, half termers? I hope everyone is having fun!
Ooh happy valentines day to anyone who celebrates such things. Not in this house. Tried giving DH a Valentine card 6 months into our relationship and was met with a black stare. But he bought me a new wheelbarrow for my spring birthday so i concluded that he was a keeper anyway.

Great news about not having to do JS @Aria999 It must feel like unexpected freedom. When i was called, I was a bit frantic as I was a recently single mum and attempting to be self employed. So relieved to have been let off ( and only the day before)

It's feeling very springy still around these parts. It's making me all enthusiastic about the garden.

Have a lovely day everyone, whatever you're up to 💕

FatSealSmugSoup · 14/02/2023 07:23

@Aria999 good news about DJ. I got called when I was 18 for the week before Xmas and my manager went mental (retail) as though I’d deliberately planned it! 🙄 it got cancelled. ExH had to do a paedophile trial which got abandoned right at the end because 2 jurors “couldn’t cope”. The fucker got let off. If I told you the jobs the 2 “sensitive ones” had you’d be rolling your eyes from here to eternity. 🤬

I think the bird flu is going to decimate egg production - it’s surely only a matter of time before DEFRA orders mass culls. We lost huge swathes of sea birds last year and now the otters are getting it. 😔

I seem to have been lugging around the team football kit in my car for a week - so I need to wash and dry that. And get the recycling out. And I’ll be done.

Peridot1 · 14/02/2023 09:42

I have a husband who sounds just like your Dads @ComeTheSpringLobelia and @FatSealSmugSoup. Yesterday’s classic was he told me I should put the Apple Air tags in my bags and not on the outside. I call it “explaining the bleedin’ obvious”.

I leave today @AllTheExtraClouds. Am almost packed. But discovered on Sunday that because I transit through Hong Kong I have to have a covid test which I wasn’t expecting so now have to get to the airport early to do that. And cross my fingers. I probably should have expected it given the whole China/covid issues.

All being well I am off tonight fingers crossed. It’s dull and grey and foggy here so I am so looking forward to sunshine and warmth.

Be good all. I’ll still check in in you all.

ComeTheSpringLobelia · 14/02/2023 09:44

Gosh I am envious of your trip @Peridot1 ! Have a safe journey and a wonderful time!!

SpiritOfEdna · 14/02/2023 12:38

Happy travels @Peridot1

We have had a paint spill in our lovely new yard. We spent the weekend sorting out what was going to the tip from the old sheds, getting rid of them and then put the remaining stuff back in the shed we were keeping, got up Monday morning to a growing streak of blue paint... Have managed to clear it up but managed to ruin my (lovely new) pyjamas at the same time.

Anyway, list for today

  • walk the dog
  • interviewing this afternoon
  • presentation to rehearse for early evening which looks like it coincides with swimming tonight
  • so, swim lesson tonight. I am very achy after lugging loads of stuff around over the weekend and a gym session this morning.
  • Order new pyjamas! DONE

Have a good day all.

SoE

RunningKatie · 14/02/2023 13:50

I've never been called for jury duty and neither has dh. At one of my previous jobs there was almost a mexican wave of people being called for it, all men as well.
Today we are doing the half term homework battle, as well as making waffles and smoothies, park meet up in a bit. Hoping the fog burns off before then!
I love new pyjama shopping @SpiritOfEdna - I got some lovely ones last year, yesterday I took delivery of some new wellies which is also exciting!

Aria999 · 14/02/2023 14:05

Good luck @Peridot1 hope you have a smooth journey

ComeTheSpringLobelia · 14/02/2023 14:19

My plans for today- tidy the house and get ready for a lunch I am giving on Thursday.

I am feeling so demotivated.

No jury duty here either. My dad has been called up a couple of times though. One for a potentially awful murder case that ended on the first day when the accused changed his plea. He was quite relieved.

AllTheExtraClouds · 15/02/2023 06:13

Morning all! Hoping our @Peridot1 is safely on her travels.

I'm enjoying the lighter starts to the day. Can feel the days getting longer. We have gone from frost to fog round here too.
Sorry you're feeling demotivated @ComeTheSpringLobelia I hope you get some sunshine where you are.
I have washed my kitchen floor (get me, this time of the morning!!) Need to clean the filth off my car again too. Can barely read the number plate.
Have a good day all 💕
