I've just looked and we might get thundery showers here too @RunningKatie 25% is highest probability.
I have lost my most comfy varifocals, luckily I have three pairs.
Sounds very industrious, @Mumtobabyhavoc! Do you recommend a steam cleaner? I did not realise they can be used on carpets. I try to avoid having too much stuff which includes cleaning gadgetry, but i think my bathroom and kitchen might benefit from one of those.

Also contemplating an air fry but think we might end up eating too many chips!

I'm still in bed which is very rare for me. I have my nose in a proper paperback (French Braids by Anne Tyler if anyone's interested) DH is out all day and I'm loving having the house to myself, much as I love him!

I plan to set the house straight, and otherwise read, relax, and perhaps go for a walk by the sea later if it's not too hot (or thundery)

Have a lovely weekend everyone 💐

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/07/2023 17:25

Just a quick reply Clouds. I have a Bissell. It is steam only not a shampooer, so no suction. The cleaning aspect is from steam and abrasion with the cloth attachments. Use it on practically everything for surface cleaning and sanitizing. Very impressed with spot cleaning ability. Bought on Amazon. UK model may have a different model number.

ThunderclapCloud · 08/07/2023 18:59

Thank you @Mumtobabyhavoc

ThunderclapCloud · 09/07/2023 07:19

Very tempted by a steamer! Will consider after next payday. Love the lack of chemicals.
Today I'm hoping it stays reasonably cool. Have some weeding to do, and I'd like to thoroughly vacuum and dust.
Clutter has spread once again too :(

Hope you all have a lovely Sunday!

petalpower · 09/07/2023 08:37

I was hoping for a good storm here to clear the air a bit but the forecast seems to be changing to possible showers instead. After a really busy few days I’m planning on a relaxed day today. It was all first world problems type stuff but lots of running around and ferrying family about too. We had a lovely belated 21st birthday dinner on Friday night for DD whilst DS was staying. He bought and delivered a new car for DD following the sad demise of her old one - it’s being picked up today probably for scrap but at least we get something back plus the road tax too. There’s a big pile of ironing that needs doing which I might attempt. DD seems to have put every item of clothing she owns out for washing since her return from uni!
Have a good day everyone!

Peridot1 · 09/07/2023 10:30

Hello all.

You are getting lots done for someone who is unwell @Mumtobabyhavoc. Make sure you are resting lots.

You have inspired me to get the steam cleaner out tomorrow to do our sofas and rug in the main sitting area. Maybe.

@ThunderclapCloud - yes mine does the panicky thing too sometimes. Have solved the ongoing house maintenance though by moving into a new build! So hopefully nothing major will need doing anytime soon. It’s just decor etc.

DS and I got back from Dublin yesterday. We had a nice trip. Lots of exploring the area around uni for DS and checking out where his accommodation is. Then a trip to Ikea to get the stuff he will need for his room. Left it all with my sister and we will pick it up in September.

Not planning on doing much today. Unpack and do some washing. I have quite a few drawers that need clearing out so I might start on one of those. I’m making a collection of old phones and tech too @RunningKatie. And I need to do glasses as well.

ThunderclapCloud · 09/07/2023 18:18

We just got showers too @petalpower but it's a good 10c cooler than yesterday, so I'm very happy!

@Peridot1 a bit of me would love a nice new house but ours is very good and solid and well insulated, so is more comfortable in a hot summer than many properties. So I think we'll stick with it. Only today DH broke a drill bit putting a shelf up, so it's proper solid too!

Very productive day here. Unusually for me, I haven't left the house once! DH did a tip run and there's another going tomorrow. One or two bits have found their way to new homes (strictly speaking, returned to DDs)

We seem to have accumulated more duvets than we need. I think I had a little moment at the beginning of last winter when we were worrying about the heating bill, and bought thicker ones, but it didn't get that cold in SE.

Have rehomed a couple and will keep a spare. Weren't there warnings about blackouts? Guess that could be a possibility any time so worth having extra but too much clobber drives me to distraction.

I have been quite ruthless today. The only things I've ever missed have been books. But they are generally easily replaced if necessary ( only done that rarely, but I'm a little more cautious about parting with books now) But I like to be able to find things, and I can only do that if there's not too much of it.

Definitely going to buy a steam cleaner. That notion is really what got me on a mission today - so thank you @Mumtobabyhavoc

Quite weary now, but DH knows me in this productive mood and is getting on with dinner. Love him so 💕

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/07/2023 19:54

Yes, I'm pretty happy having purchased the steamer. I use it to steam clean the floors and bathroom tiles, steam sinks and handles, window tracks, couches and carpet spot cleaning. When I clean the couches and carpet I hand hold the top reservoir part and use the small attachment for fabric using the fitted cloth for the part. (Need to buy more of those). I mix 1/4 vinegar to 3/4 previously boiled water. All the milk and food stains came out of carpet and couch , so am very happy!

RunningKatie · 09/07/2023 21:12

DH is ill in bed, not sure why, the dc are in bed and ddog is hung over the sofa looking out of the window. This weekend I've achieved very little but it's not quite panned out as planned.
I'm just catching up on Sewing Bee and contemplating the plan for the week, it's going to be a busy one!
Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend. I shall uncover my steam cleaner this summer, I am quite inspired!

petalpower · 09/07/2023 21:24

I’ve got steam cleaner (as recommended by Good Housekeeping) but the fabric pad pulls of when I use it on our tiles and it annoys me so it sits in the cupboard.

petalpower · 09/07/2023 21:25

Pulls off

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/07/2023 21:54

Petal, have you tried adding a stitch to it to tighten it up?or, buying replacements that might fit better? I would definitely be frustrated if that kept happening. I can get in quite a mood about finicky things and would return it or be tempted to toss it off the balcony. (Crazy person that I can be.) 🤷‍♀️
Kate, 11 pairs? You must be cleaning out all the nooks and crannies! Good for you!!
We're having flooring re-done so I really need to get niggling jobs done here. Purge. Pack

Mumtobabyhavoc · 10/07/2023 05:18

End of day tasks done: Put Havoc to bed then put a load of laundry in so I can hang it up over night; used wand vacuum on couch and area rug where DC has left a trail of crumbs ( must maintain steam cleaned couch!!!); wet a cloth with vinegar and cleaned bathroom mirror, sink and counter. Going to rinse deck with a couple buckets vinegar water next as have noticed dirty feet from being out there. Catching my breath for a minute first. (ICYMI, I like using vinegar to clean. And bleach.)💁‍♀️
Bed soon. 😴

Mumtobabyhavoc · 10/07/2023 06:14

Also took all clothes out of one drawer of Havoc's dresser; sorted; re-folded; and removed several items now too small. Will pack away with other too small items for probable donation and took out garbage.
Feeling like an over-achiever for the day. Definitely time for bed. Have got fans going in all the rooms and it's lovely and cool now. A very nice summer evening. 🥱

Peridot1 · 10/07/2023 08:53

I can’t steam clean my floors as we have polished stone tiles and the steam cleaner took all the sheen off and we had to have the floors polished and re-sealed.

Feeling a bit fragile here this morning as we had a bit of a late one last night with too much wine involved. So not sure much will get done today. Have a wash on and the dishwasher is unloaded, re-loaded and on again. Still more to go in though. And then the kitchen needs a clean and tidy round. That might be it for today!

SpiritOfEdna · 10/07/2023 12:55

morning everyone seems to have been very busy 😄

I have been busy

  • after work - helping a friend decorate a flat. My wrists are still aching from wielding a paint roller and cleaning
  • filling the new border with soil for sibling to plant all the lovely plants in
  • finally got round to putting the wardrobe doors on post their move and secured the wardrobes to the wall
  • rearranged all the stuff in the wardrobe - might have another purge of stuff that wasn't sold on Vinted
  • identified shoes that can go to tip for the charity shop and some other clothes as well
  • watered all the indoor plants
  • all the wood for the tip is out of the 'new' bedroom and in front of the house - we look really classy. I'll leave the doors until I can work out how to get them in half to fit into the car
  • updated all my admin spreadsheets
Today - has a bit of a theme!
  • fix the handles on exercise bike - just needs a bit of tightening of the nuts I think
  • find out why the seat is wobbly!
  • find the WD40 for the creaky pedals
  • pump up the exercise ball a bit more
  • find the wedges for step ups
  • crack out the wonder core smart !!!!
  • find headphones so I can start the couch to five K (again, for the millionth time)
  • I have 3 gym sessions this week; I am usually aching after 2 so we'll see how that goes; so gym kit needs washing today
That's it for today, have a good day all, SoE
ThunderclapCloud · 10/07/2023 16:04

I have a sickly one too @RunningKatie How's yours today? Mine looks rough and it's the first suck day he's taken in 15 years!
@SpiritOfEdna you are something else! Organised and energetic! Inspiring!

Liking the sound of your social life @Peridot1 I hope head and energy levels are better!

Well done @Mumtobabyhavoc you're on it! And with small person in tow...

👋 @SummerLobelia and @petalpower

I'm off to tip shortly on account of ailing DH. I have maintained yesterday's excellent tidiness which thrills me and i have spoken to all my offpring and my mother. And done a morning's work so feeling smug. And not a little weary.

I have been inspired by a couple of the 'how to keep well into older age' threads. I'm quite active but don't exercise as such. Pondering on joining a pilates class. I'm a little bit creaky and not as stretchy as I'd like to be.
Working on the brain too. I learnt a poem at the weekend. ( relearned) Cargoes by John Masefield.

ThunderclapCloud · 10/07/2023 16:04

Sick day!!!

SummerLobelia · 10/07/2023 17:20

Hi all- sorry to go off grid. Crazy week and I have achieved nothing at all. I need to go back and read everyone s posts but hope everyone is okay. Thanks

We are on holiday from tomorrow and rhings are a bit crazy getting ready for it. I am at the stage in planning where I think; 'what on earth were we thinking going away!'. Plus we are with easyjet.

I hope everyone is well- all okay here and sorry for not being in touch. Thanks

petalpower · 10/07/2023 18:05

@Mumtobabyhavoc the steam cleaner has a kind of towelling cover to the bit that goes on the floor which tightens with a toggle thing. Maybe it’s our floors which are a bit rough and rustic - they’re traditional tiles for this area rather than smooth ceramic or laminate - but the cover just seems to snag and pull off and puts me in a bad mood!
Don’t feel as though I’ve achieved much today. Maybe if I write it down I’ll be a bit more satisfied.

  • taken chicken off carcass from yesterday’s lunch ready for it’s next reincarnation into Tuscan Chicken Pasta planned for tomorrow night
  • emptied the bins
  • took DD to her dentist appointment
  • called in at the charity shop which has parking outside on the way back from the dentist and dropped off 8 bags of DDs old clothes
  • organised joining our local leisure centre as a member rather than paying on the day - it was getting quite difficult to book my class without being a member so I’ve had to bite the bullet
  • chased up non-collection of parcel by useless Evri
  • emailed accountant about outstanding tax and NI issue
  • picked and froze raspberries from the veg garden
  • spoke to DS twice about upcoming work things (he’s on holiday with his cousin but needed a bit of moral support and a listening ear)
  • Brushed Petaldog’s teeth and removed a million burrs and seeds from his coat
Maybe that’s ok after all. Enjoy your holiday @SummerLobelia . I just can’t believe there’s anything left to sort out in your house @SpiritOfEdna ! All that on top of working. Very impressive. Well done on maintaining the tidiness @ThunderclapCloud . Hope DH is on the mend soon. Hope you’re feeling a bit better after your social shenanigans @Peridot1 ! Hello to anyone I’ve missed.
Mumtobabyhavoc · 10/07/2023 18:39

Take it easy today, Peridot. Hope you are feeling better. Alcohol just kills me now. 💐
Petal, frustrating for sure. Mine has one scrubby cover for floors, I assume, and it is quite grabby when pushing so have to lift and pull which is far too energy consuming so I avoid using it. 🤷‍♀️ (And very busy day for you!)
Enjoy your holiday, Summer. Whete are you off to?
Getting my energy back, Thunder. Thanks for the encouragement. I find doing bits here and there most days is key. Pilates classes sound great! I did pilates videos on YouTube for ages - must get back to it!!!! Helped my back issues immensely.

Appt in a couple hours so taking Havoc to a park near there. Might seek out an almond croissant after. Folded and put away some of last night's laundry. Wand vacuumed after Havoc's snack left crumbs behind.
Actively avoiding taking everything out of storage closet to sort, purge and repack. Last did that 2 years ago. Will also mean cleaning floors and since we had mice last year I am afraid to move the storage racks fearing what may be underneath. 🫣

RunningKatie · 11/07/2023 11:49

Have sorted the bath toys out. I am super sentimental, dh is not! I've kept some, not that the dc have baths often now but the broken or useless ones have gone.
Dh has cleared out some product samples from his work. He told me last night that he feels better when the surfaces are clear. When I'd finished raging, I did calmly point out that he was a serial offender. Maybe this is the summer he finally gets it!

SpiritOfEdna · 11/07/2023 15:02

@petalpower I love pulling burrs and seeds from the dogs fur - it's very therepeutic. If I'm not careful SpiritDoggo eats them! Need to have another session with her today as she is going to the groomers tomorrow for a good scrub.
Today is a bit slower than yesterday

  • out tonight to watch TheNiece in her dance show, so iron and wonderwebbing all ready to re-hem some trousers.
  • walked SpiritDoggo in the rain, all got soaked but now it's all lovely and sunny out.
  • continue emptying out the back bedroom. New bed arriving Thursday. I really need a man with a van to take away some of the old stuff sitting outside the house. Joiner confirmed for next week to block in some pipes (the boiler used to be there) and replace missing bits of skirting boards and floor. And fix up the stairs!
  • my bedroom - cleaned wardrobe fronts and top of chest of drawers; need to do floors and skirting boards next - all looking dusty and a bit grubby - that might end up being tomorrow's job.
Have a good day all, SoE
RunningKatie · 12/07/2023 10:37

For a slow day that sounds busy @SpiritOfEdna !

I've just found another 3 pairs of glasses. I was actually trying to tidy up a bookcase and there they were. I'm beginning to think they are breeding.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/07/2023 15:40

Morning everyone. 🌥️
Have been awake since 5am. 😾
Finally got out of bed at 6:30 and made a banana bread which should be ready in about 20 mins. Will need an extra strong latte to go with. Havoc is still asleep which is wholly unfair as I'm usually woken up around 7 and it's now 7:35.
Have cleaned the bathroom sink, toilet and floor and the balcony railing and sliding door track to make use of my time while waiting for banana bread. Now sitting on couch wondering how I'll make it through today on far too little sleep. 😿

Hope everyone's fay is going well.
Some of the tasks posted are pretty ambitious!
