Sounding productive all around, Katie!
Boo to the uti, Peridot. I went through a phase of getting them often. Ugh. Hoping meds work fast. 🙏
You're inspiring me with your hour of tasks, Thunder! 🤔 What should I tackle?

Managed to tick off one niggling task on my endless list: I installed a screen curtain on the deck in lieu of a new screen door which little Havoc would likely destroy - again (pushes on the screen). For about $40CAD I bought it from Amazon. Took about 30 mins. A velcro strip sticks to the frame and the curtain attaches to the velcro. It closes drown the centre on its' own with magnets.
Proving endless fascination for Havoc opening/closing saying, Hello.
Unsure if I will manage much else as tired now. Doctor prescribed steroid nasal spray and to follow-up in 2 weeks. God help me if this doesn't resolve by then. Today is Day 1 of Week 8 being sick. I've gone through a box of 200 sinus rinses and am on box 2....😿

Mumtobabyhavoc · 29/06/2023 05:26

Managed 2 loads laundry, vacuumed, cleaned bathroom including wiping the floor. Standard tasks, really. But, I feel like crap, so i'm taking today as a win. More laundry planned for tomorrow including beds. Have another nagging task to get to - change landline phones. (Yes, landline. Anyone remember those?).

Peridot1 · 29/06/2023 08:34

We still have a landline @Mumtobabyhavoc! I think I’d feel odd not having it. But I’m sure we will get rid at some stage.

You really do seem to be suffering with whatever it is you have. Are you taking a really good multivitamin? You might need what used to be called a “tonic” when I was growing up. Now I just have tonic with gin!

The antibiotics kicked in nicely here thankfully. So feeling a lot better.

Managed to get a few things done yesterday. Finally packaged the present for my friend! And did some dead-heading in the garden. And moved everything on the floor in the utility room to outside and it got a good vacuum and floor wash. Even washed my crocs. Changed my bed and aired my duvet on the line for a few hours in the morning.

Today’s list -

  • package up two dresses to return
  • post package to friend
  • laundry
  • put away bedding from yesterday
  • ironing

Also going for an NHS health check this afternoon.

have a great day all.

SpiritOfEdna · 29/06/2023 09:17

morning
Today

  • just took a delivery of 25 bags of 35l of soil. That was a work out in itself in getting it off the pallet and into the house, done now - need a break before we move them into the yard
  • finally chosen a wallpaper for living room
  • clean bookcase and anchor to wall
  • photograph some more stuff to go on Vinted
That'll do for today, SoE
petalpower · 29/06/2023 20:51

Every day I mean to post something but it seems to be escaping me at the moment. Still here and reading everyone’s news and achievements.
So busy this week. DH is leaving his job (possible early retirement, a break or a change of direction) and finishes tomorrow - he works from home but is in the office which is 3 hours away for the last couple of days and is staying with DS who lives in that area. DD leaves uni at the weekend (it’s also her 21st tomorrow and she now has her final degree grade too) and we’re away for the weekend at a wedding. I’m then going on from there to pick DD up on Sunday and DH will come back to pick up Petaldog who’s staying with friends whilst we’re away. I have lots of lists going on! We’re also about to start the next stage of our building project which DH is going to project manage. DD’s car failed it’s MOT on Tuesday (now officially dead) and so we need to organise a new one for her as she’s back working from Tuesday - she works at the care home where auntie is and needs a her own transport to get there ideally. Whilst we’re away at the wedding DS is travelling to another area from where he lives to test drive and probably buy a car on our behalf then drive it back here before he returns to his flat (all in our absence). My brain feels a bit fried with all the logistics!
Hope you’re all ok especially poorly ones and frazzled ones.

RunningKatie · 30/06/2023 07:38

Wow @petalpower - that's a lot of organising going on!
Dc2 has an inset day today so I've taken the day off and we're going on a jolly day out. He's super excited.
Last night I managed to recycle all the glasses I found last week, 10 pairs in the end. This weekend I need to catch up with the washing and deep clean the bathrooms. I'd like to do some batch cooking too, just to feel more organised.

Peridot1 · 30/06/2023 08:09

That’s a LOT @petalpower! Hope you get some down time.

we have lots of glasses to recycle here too @RunningKatie. Must find them all.

I posted my parcel to my friend yesterday- finally! And packaged up two dresses to return and they will be picked up today. Not entirely sure what else I did!

Today - ironing. That’s it. Just ironing. Oh and booking hire car for Dublin next week.

SpiritOfEdna · 30/06/2023 10:00

@RunningKatie if you've found my glasses in that lot - please send my way
😄 the last two pairs of glasses I've had with my prescription i've lost within weeks of buying. I am now wearing cheapie supermarket ones which seem to be indestructable...
@petalpower respect - i got very dizzy reading that; lots of spinning plates
Today

  • my bedroom is an absolute tip. I've sorted out 30 items of clothing this morning - hanging up, folding into drawers, or shoving in the washing machine. next time I go in there I'll do the same again.
  • Hang the paintings that were in my room in my 'new' home office space.
  • Need to do all this in 10 minute bursts as work is very busy at the moment
  • It's Friday - what more can I say, besides another trip to the tip beckons - oh the giddy heights 😄
That's all for now, have a good day all, SoE
Peridot1 · 30/06/2023 10:58

Well the ironing has made it downstairs
The ironing board is out of its cupboard
An evening dress got moved from wardrobe to charity bag in spare room
Spare room got a bit of a tidy
A pillow is in the washing machine so see if washing and tumble drying it fluffs it a bit

Now I’m having a coffee before starting some ironing

Mumtobabyhavoc · 01/07/2023 06:29

This evening's boiling the kettle tasks: wiped out bathroom sink with vinegar; washed kitchen floor; wiped balcony railing and around glass door and tracks and rinsed deck with 2 buckets vinegar water. 15 mins. 🥳
This morning: changed sheets and washed sheets on one bed and washed and hung two loads clothes.

Spirit, was reading thread early this morning and glad you explained the dirt is being transported to the yard. I was thinking why the heck is she taking dirt into the house?! 🤪

Everyone is sounding productive! 🥳
(not liking the sound of the ironing though...😔
I'm taking advantage of energy bursts. Thanks for the well wishes everyone. I'm cautiously optimistic as the coughing is a bit less intense and sinuses seem clearer for longer. 🤞🤞🤞

SummerLobelia · 01/07/2023 06:44

Morning all- still here, just had a tricky few days and not been online much. Hope everyone is fine and particularly those who are feeling under the weather. Thanks

My idea of going around the house anti clockwise is going quite well. I have done three rooms now and today will do DH's study. I can't do all that much with his study but it is messy so I will tidy the desk. I may have to move a cat though- it was she who hampered the tidying yesterday!

Have a great day everyone.

Peridot1 · 01/07/2023 09:51

Morning all

Fingers crossed you are on the mend @Mumtobabyhavoc.

Sorry you have had some tricky days @SummerLobelia. Sounds like you are still getting stuff done though - the anticlockwise thing sounds good. I tend to freeze a bit trying to decide where to start so that’s a good tip.

I did quite a bit of ironing yesterday. Got about half of it done. A bit more to go but then it should be done. Also weeded a small gravel area where we have pots of herbs growing. And did some laundry. Booked hire car for Dublin and booked taxis to and from the airport.

Today:

Going to a homeware warehouse sale I think. Although DH keeps telling me we don’t need anything. And he is totally correct.

Then farm shop which is next door to warehouse for some meat and vegetables.
A load of laundry.
Maybe some ironing

Have a great day all.

Aria999 · 01/07/2023 19:31

Hi all! Everyone sounds very busy!

Hope DH job break goes well @petalpower are you looking forward to having him around more? Or will he just get under your feet 🤣? Your list of things to sort out makes me feel tired just reading it.

Hope you are on the mend finally @Mumtobabyhavoc it is really hard with little kids when you are sick. When they get a bit older, giving them too much TV is a lifesaver but is kind of self limiting as after a while they turn into uncontrollable monsters who really need to get the wiggles out. Mine do anyway! Glad Havoc is enjoying the screen curtain.

I didn't even know you could recycle glasses @RunningKatie, my optician always gives me the old lenses back but it's not like they are ever going to be any use! I have been re-using old frames with new lenses recently to save money.

Hope your tricky few days is now behind you @SummerLobelia? I had a bit of an emotional roller coaster few days too. All sorted now and I have an exciting new paying project starting Monday and exactly 2 weeks to do it in before we fly to the uk for our usual epic summer trip.

Think I may need to find a laptop that doesn't mind being moved (my normal one thinks it's a desktop and gets very upset if you treat it as portable) and prepare to work evenings and nap times while traveling ☹️

Hi @SpiritOfEdna @ThunderclapCloud !

Aria999 · 01/07/2023 19:32

Posted too soon

Enjoy the home warehouse sale @Peridot1 , what are you thinking you might look at? Need is relative!

RunningKatie · 01/07/2023 20:13

Specsavers used to recycle glasses but since they went a bit mad over covid they don't any more. However, Asda do!
Today I've done my monthly shower drain clean - bleurgh. Also purchased a dress for a work do. I have so many lovely dresses but cannot fit in them, hopefully next year.
Happy weekend all, we've got a lovely sunny evening after some very grey weather

petalpower · 03/07/2023 09:18

Back from our weekend away at the wedding and me picking up DD from
uni and moving her back home. 6 hours driving for me yesterday so I was very tired by the time we got back. I resisted the urge to strangle DH with my bare hands when he sat watching James Bond as DD and I emptied the car of all her uni stuff (the car was so full!) as he was tired. He drove straight back from the wedding (2 and a bit hours) whilst I toured the country. Hmm, not sure how this retirement thing is going to go @Aria999 . I’m escaping for the day to see an old friend for lunch and may or may not come back depending on how the mood takes me!!
DS did buy a car for DD at the weekend but didn’t get chance to bring it back here so I’ll be driving DD around for the next couple of days which will
complicate arrangements slightly. DH cheerfully told me that there are lots of warning lights flashing on his car (superb!) so I’m hoping he does something about phoning the garage today.
Petaldog is quite discombobulated after his stay at friends this weekend. He obviously had a great time with their dog but is now absolutely knackered!
Have good day all!

Peridot1 · 03/07/2023 10:43

Those sometimes not so D husbands can be quite frustrating at times can’t they @petalpower?! Mine got up this morning just as I was making my breakfast and I mentioned the back of the fridge was hugely iced up so we would need to sort it but I wanted to have my breakfast and a cuppa first. Of course then he starts doing it straight away. Huffing and puffing because I’m not helping. Looking for a hairdryer to defrost the ice and looking annoyed when I didn’t jump up to get it. What bit of “I don’t want to do it now but we can do it after I eat my breakfast” does he not get? Apparently if he didn’t do it there and then it would be hanging over him all day. Except it wouldn’t as I was planning on doing it after breakfast!

Anyway. Your day did sound tiring. But obviously not nearly as tiring as your poor DH.

So here the fridge is sorted.

I have cleaned and tidied the kitchen.

Have some phone calls to make to book some appointments.

Need to vacuum.

Take dog to vet for monthly injection.

Get DS to sort his washing.
Get DS to start thinking about packing for Dublin.

Maybe some more ironing.

DS and I are going to Dublin on Wednesday for a few days. First trip for either of us since we sold Dad’s house. Very odd. Staying in a hotel in the city for two nights and then a night with my sister. DS is moving to Dublin in September to do a Masters so it’s a bit if a reccy trip and moving some stuff over so less to take in September and buying some of the stuff he will need.

petalpower · 03/07/2023 20:10

That sounds like something my husband would say and do about the fridge @Peridot1 ! I did decide to return from my friend’s after a lovely lunch. DH had brought in the washing off the line when it rained (good) but didn’t fold it into the basket so it’s now crumpled like you wouldn’t believe (bad). Great excitement for Petaldog as we had two baby voles or maybe shrews in the utility room - one was unfortunately dispatched by the dog but I managed to catch the other and release it in the garden. I’m wondering if there’s a nest somewhere? I’ve managed to get DD to order her cap and gown for graduation and she’s started a mammoth clear out of her room. The dining room is still full of her uni stuff though. Today I’ve also:

  • paid for the MOT (failed) on DDs old car✔️
  • paid my Next bill online ✔️
  • booked a supermarket delivery slot ✔️
  • contacted the jewellery place about replacing DDs 21st birthday present bracelet with a larger size (it was minuscule) ✔️
  • booked my fitness class for week which has to be done at the crack of dawn on a Monday to secure a place ✔️
  • put wedding photos from this weekend on group WhatsApp ✔️
  • brushed Petaldog’s teeth and given him his flea and worm tablets ✔️
RunningKatie · 04/07/2023 14:49

Today I've sorted & shredded some receipts, skimmed three books and put in charity pile, and cleaned a bathroom.
Yesterday I sewed on 4 guides badges, only another 15 to go - or as it's strike day tomorrow, I may encourage dd to give it a go. Ha ha!

RunningKatie · 05/07/2023 16:07

Found yet another pair of glasses for recycling.
I've now started looking out old phones and tech that have just been dumped, aiming to get rid of all of them. They are all old so I doubt worth £'s but I'm hoping somewhere takes them to recycle.
I know there was a thread about going through the house drawer by drawer, not quite at that level but I keep unearthing things and getting rid. Dh asked if I was ok the other night! The clutter's just overwhelming.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 06/07/2023 16:35

Thanks for the well wishes everyone. Will be following up with GP in Monday. Feeling better but still coughing and congested. This is week 9. 😷

Vacuumed and washed kitchen and bathroom floors last night before bed. Was awake at 6 and up by 7 today and threw in a load of towels then cleaned the bathroom. Started on breakfast and cut up a honeydew melon and some strawberries and made a banana bread with choc chips and pecans that should be ready in about an hour if anyone wants to pop by. Going to try and get to Costco this afternoon. Planning on not using the oven again today as temp should be near 30c and it's already feeling warm with fans on.

Impressed with the cleaning strategies here!
Katie, how many glasses have you found so far?

ThunderclapCloud · 07/07/2023 06:02

Hello everyone! All systems go with you all and very impressed. Laughing in recognition at @Peridot1 and @petalpower

I've just realised that i mention something that i think might need doing at some stage ( house maintenance) and DH gets a bit panicky and snaps about the cost, and being laid back and a bit lazy I forget about the thing. What I actually need to do is cost stuff and then discuss I think. Have been in house 25 years and hope for at least another 30, and it will probably fall down if we don't maintain it, and I think we need to begin while we're both still working.

Must get going now but best wishes all round!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/07/2023 03:38

Feeling proud: vacuumed one of the couches then used steamer to clean it. Felt on a roll, so steamed out stains on carpet (coffee, milk, and god knows); steam cleaned kitchen and bathroom floors; steamed caulking along tub; and finally steamed bathroom sink to use up last of vinegar water in reservoir. Done for Friday night. 💁‍♀️

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/07/2023 06:29

One last chore: managed a load of laundry washed and hung up to take advantage of the warm night air. DC is asleep and I'm now watching an episode of Firefly Lane on Netflix. Ahhh... Friday night. So. Very. Exciting. 🥳

RunningKatie · 08/07/2023 08:17

I'm on 11 pairs of glasses so far @Mumtobabyhavoc - I'm sure they'll keep appearing for a while yet!
Today we're due to have thunder so am hoping I can get dh to mow the lawn whilst I take dc to their activity.
I'm need to write a food shop list, absolutely zero inspiration so far. It feels too early to think about meals.
