Morning all! After yesterdays torrential storms we have blue skies and sun. My washing is pegged out so I am hoping the predicted rain holds off for a while.
Thank you for your kind wishes, I'm feeling sore but ok, I barely moved all weekend and am wfh today so it's helped.
Today I need to make space in the freezer, dh went shopping without a list and got very carried away. Helpful and yet not helpful.

petalpower · 19/06/2023 11:12

Hope you’re feeling better soon @RunningKatie .
Sounds like you’ve got a lot on your plate with running things for your mum too @ThunderclapCloud . A walk sounds good. Flowers

ThunderclapCloud · 21/06/2023 06:53

Morning all! Hear you with the helpful but not helpful @RunningKatie
How's everyone?
How's my sandwich sister @petalpower ?

Still chugging on here. Summer solstice today! Comes round fast. Gloriously fresh round these parts and garden is looking pretty with no help from me. Clever nature!
Off to work so wishing you all a good day and I plan to clear an airer of bits that have been in the spare room for a fortnight. May do something about the small side tables in the lounge too...

RunningKatie · 21/06/2023 07:18

Morning all
Happy longest day! We've woken up to glorious sunshine, so nice after all the rain.
Today I'm wfh, so will get some washing done before I start. Then haircuts tonight so I need to do a quick whizz around the place to make it presentable.

Peridot1 · 21/06/2023 09:13

Morning all. Or should I say Happy Summer Solstice Day!

We have been invited to Solstice drinks this evening at a neighbour’s house. They have a stunning garden so looking forward to getting some ideas for ours too. Although their setting is idyllic. Ours less so!

Cleaners are in today here so this morning it’s a general tidy around for them to clean. Especially the utility room which is as usual a bit of a mess. Then I need to take a dress back to M&S and pick up a package from Next and buy a card for my friend’s new baby. I messed up the one I had already so can’t send the present yet!

Other tasks - change a bed and wash towels.

Have a good nice long day everyone.

petalpower · 21/06/2023 19:21

Ooh I like the term sandwich sister @ThunderclapCloud ! Still sandwich-ing on. DD is just waiting for her degree results, DS is still having work stresses, the oldies are all still wobbly (particularly care home auntie who had a fall at the weekend and had her wheelchair tip over whilst out a trip - nasty bruise and a scrape to her forehead where she hit it on the road). Blimey, that was a long sentence!!
I kep meaning to go back and reply to people’s posts but just haven’t git round to it.
Enjoy your Solstice drinks @Peridot1 . Sounds lovely. We went to a garden event last night too.
How are you feeling now after your hospital trip @RunningKatie ?
Your lists always seem immense and very impressive @SpiritOfEdna . All that on top of working too!
Hello @teachyourself . Welcome to the thread. It’s a lovely friendly place.
Any further news on the curtains and new carpets @SummerLobelia ? How has your DS got on with his eating this week?
Waves to @Aria999 and @Mumtobabyhavoc and anyone else I’ve missed.

petalpower · 21/06/2023 19:22

Sorry should have proofread but wanted to post quickly in case it disappeared!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 21/06/2023 19:50

Hi all. ☺️
Been dragging of late as struggling to get over illness. This is week 7. 😩
Managed a load of laundry, baked a banana bread, took garbage out, washed kitchen floor, vacuumed and vacuumed couches.
Out of breath now- literally.
Reading everyone's updates for inspiration. 💖

RunningKatie · 22/06/2023 09:28

I'm sore but ok thank you @petalpower
Sounds like you've been really poorly @Mumtobabyhavoc - hope you're properly on the mend soon.
Today we are doing a charity shop drop off, plus I have sorted out loads of our old glasses for recycling. I've not done that since covid and we all wear specs so we've got quite a stash! I shall take them to Specsavers on Saturday, but this is the first step.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/06/2023 18:09

Runningkatie, hope you are better? Thanks for your well wishes. It's likely covid. Getting a bit depressing, but taking advantage of energy bursts when they appear.

Kettle boiling task: cleaned and tidied the cutlery drawer! Used the handy wand vacuum then wiped out using vinegar.🥳
One bed stripped and freshly re-made. Another being done.
Sunny day here. 😎

petalpower · 25/06/2023 08:14

It’s gone very quiet around these parts. Hope everyone is ok and having a lovely sunny weekend . ☀️

Aria999 · 25/06/2023 12:41

Hi all. Sorry for radio silence, I just have not been achieving anything much 😳

Hope you feel better soon @Mumtobabyhavoc that sounds like hard work . Your lists remain impressive !

I had a hair cut and balayage on Friday. And I have finished my book for book club which I thought was meeting today then realized it is next week.

But productive household tasks have been thin on the ground!

ThunderclapCloud · 25/06/2023 17:52

Hello everyone! I've been quiet just because it's been all go!
Two appointments for me last week and two for mother. Resolutely ingnoring requests to work overtime!
DH is being so supportive but is undergoing tests himself currently. He's very tired but maintaining his lovely sense of humour.
I've made our smallest bedroom into a spare room/office. It's about the size of one of those little bedroom pods we had at university.

DH won't move his work space from the dining room but I'm trying to do a bit of study/reading/journalling in my little space. In theory.
Feeling a bit stretched at min so need to maintain order by doing my boiling kettle jobs. Today I've done a 5 min weeding session, cleaned a pair of shoes, paired my socks and dusted the telly and surrounding area.
DH went to the tip and is cooking dinner.

Hope you've all had a lovely weekend!

petalpower · 25/06/2023 20:58

Boiling the kettle jobs sound just the ticket at the moment @ThunderclapCloud and definitely keep saying no to overtime.
Sometimes productive household jobs are just a step too far @Aria999 . It’s enough to keep putting one foot in front of the other!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 26/06/2023 05:09

Hello all. 😊
Still feeling crap, but pushed through today. Cleaned front door, vacuumed and vacuumed car. Wand vacuum is brilliant for car-cleaning!
Doctor tomorrow to ask if I now have pneumonia and a sinus infection. Anxiety rampant. 🤦‍♀️😬

SummerLobelia · 26/06/2023 05:50

I definitely agree with @petalpower - every word!

I hope you start to feel a very great deal better soon @Mumtobabyhavoc

Hope everyone has a nice day.

Sorry for my silence as well. Also a bit one foot in front of the other here. Very tired and thoroughly demotivated. I am feeling a bit overwhelmed right now. So I shall 'daily project' various bits of life admin today.... sorting out bill payments and a tax payment and getting ready for our summer break. This morning I have already sent an e-mail to our travel agent. If I get the life admin stuff done by Wednesday I shall have achieved something.

I like the idea of your own space @ThunderclapCloud !

Thanks to all.

Peridot1 · 26/06/2023 08:01

Hi all.

Hope you are on the mend soon @Mumtobabyhavoc. It has been dragging on a bit and I’m sure you are fed up. If it IS pneumonia at least the proper medication should help.

I haven’t been achieving much either. Still have present for friend’s new baby to package up and post. Still haven’t done any ironing. And now have a UTI so not feeling too great. Although a lot better than yesterday.

Have decided to go to Dublin early next month with DS to check out his uni accommodation and buy some of the stuff he will need and leave it with one of my sisters. He is moving to Dublin to do a Masters in September. Couldn’t have done that before we sold my Dad’s house of course! So today I need to book flights and a hotel.

Have a good day all. I shall attempt to do a boiling kettle task of some description!

SpiritOfEdna · 26/06/2023 10:19

@ThunderclapCloud – I am doing the exact opposite, my home office is now under the stairs, and the office is slowly being changed back into a bedroom. The bed is mostly back in there, in bits, and on Saturday a joiner came to look at fixing the floor, putting in some skirting boards and boxing in the pipes (the boiler used to live in there before we had it moved as part of a kitchen refurb). Am awaiting the quote for that, and the stairs, with some trepidation.
@Mumtobabyhavoc – hope you get answers from the doctors soon.
@petalpower – hope aunt is recovering from her spill.
@Peridot1 – hope UTI clears up; they are a pain (literally!)

Today:

  • Chase joiner for quote
  • Ask if sibling is home to get a delayed birthday card and present delivered this week
  • Move bookcase in bedroom to alcove and start re-stacking the books on it, just measured it and it fits
  • Finish moving the day bed bits back into the ‘new’ bedroom
  • Do a bedding wash and get it out on the line
  • This evening, cut out the pattern for a pillow case.
Have a good day all, SoE
SummerLobelia · 26/06/2023 20:37

Evening all. Hope everyone is fine.

I did a little bit of admin stuff. Found out that the holiday booking had a problem in it and sorted that out.

Rescued a gorgeous little harvest mouse from the clutches of the cat. Thankfully she takes them into our bath to play with. I got to it before it appeared to be injured and sent it on it's way.

Took DH's car for an MOT. he is still away.

I have finished two rooms now in my quest to go anti clockwise around the whole house. Things are looking ALOT better. Tomorrow I start on the pantry and second fridge.

I am up to date with washing and almost the ironing.

I planted out some more agapanthus and scabious.

Now to finish the irnoning........

ThunderclapCloud · 27/06/2023 06:25

Good morning! @Mumtobabyhavoc I hope you have appropriate medication and are feeling loads better!
@Peridot1 bah to uti and hoping very much you're on the mend too 💐

I like the anti clockwise sweep @SummerLobelia Great idea! I hope it helps with the tired and demotivated ♥

@petalpower hello! I hope you are well and not stretched into too many different directions!

Big wave to you all as I must go and do some work! Must water my vegetable patch on the way. We have hosepipe ban here but I've filled three watering cans already.

Today i must book cat in for routine vet appt, wash mother's hair, and clear the sofa which out of nowhere has become a dumping ground for things which must be put away.

Catch up with you all later!

RunningKatie · 27/06/2023 09:46

Morning all!
Washing on, so it's raining of course. This morning I have decobwebbed the kitchen, and banished many spiders to the garden. I've nearly finished another bottle of bathroom lotions and potions so that's for recycling, next bottle already earmarked for using up!
I'm working on my summer holiday plans, I've written down a "task" a week to hopefully get some annoying jobs done before the Autumn. I need to make space to get my sewing machine out so I can craft again.

ThunderclapCloud · 27/06/2023 10:11

All sounds positive @RunningKatie ( am envious of rain!) How is the job going?

I have an unexpected break today so doing an hour's pottering (says she scrolling mumsnet!)

Just going to get some washing on the line (that'll make it rain!)

Peridot1 · 27/06/2023 10:11

Morning all. You sound very productive this morning @RunningKatie.

I thought I was on the mend yesterday (although did need an afternoon nap) but the UTI is very much still there this morning. Actually managed to get through to GP surgery, actually managed to speak to a human and arranged for a call back from a doctor who actually called back within five minutes and has left a prescription ready for me to pick up. Am in shock. So I’m about to get sorted to go pick that up.

Have some washing done ready to hang up. No rain here so will hang outside. And today if I do nothing else I will wrap the present for my friend’s new baby.

Have a good day all.

RunningKatie · 27/06/2023 10:17

I've got my final probation meeting next week @ThunderclapCloud - should be permanent then. So happy! I'm enjoying the mix of office and wfh, although full time is a challenge.
Hope the UTI clears up with the antibiotics @Peridot1
Still grey here, washing in basket but hasn't made it outside yet!

ThunderclapCloud · 27/06/2023 11:03

An actual human @Peridot1 🤯 I hope you get the right treatment and feel better very soon!

All the best with your meeting next week @RunningKatie!

I'm quite impressed with my hour's break. In work mode so got on with some small tasks: some weeding, wash on line, cleared kitchen counters and wiped sides. Mopped floor. Brushed cat. Now to hoover main areas (small house so not arduous) then back to work for couple of hours.
