Hi, hope it's ok if I join? I've been reading through for a little while hoping it will inspire me but, in all honesty, I still spend too much time thinking and not enough doing so I'm now hoping that posting will spur me on!

I've had gastro this last week which has taken the wind out of my sails but on the mend now. Today and tomorrow I need to...

  • check HMRC for pensions
  • fill in forms for a house sale (bit late with this one)
  • email hospital for a follow up appointment (late for this one too)
  • email re another appointment with a careers type person (late here too, there's a theme...)
  • clean bathroom
  • go through clothes and pack away anything even vaguely warmer because it's way too hot already

Of these, the first 4 are the most important. The last two are if I have the physical energy!

teachyourself · 15/06/2023 12:59

Oh my, something has already been added to my list. Had to retrieve something from behind the microwave and yep, that space needs cleaning. May as well do the inside at the same time as I have some lemons around.

SummerLobelia · 15/06/2023 14:09

Hello all! Welcome @teachyourself Smile Love 'meeting' new people!

Thanks @SpiritOfEdna i ended up listening to some youtube things- mainly meal planning stuff as I love getting ideas!

I did not get to the kitchen this morning but will try and do at least the cutlery drawer after dinner so something is actually achieved! Just one of those funny days where i was not able to settle down to anything.

BUT!!!!... [drum rolls].... DH brought carpet samples home as we will be replacing our ancient navy blue dark tatty carpet 'soon'. Then he made my jaw drop by saying he has booked the carpet fitters in to measure up and quote the first week of July!!

The carpet samples are pale and uninteresting which is good as considering the blue carpets have been in situ since 1997 I am after something completely unobtrusive so we can change 'looks' through decorations rather than feature carpets.

I have had to have a quiet sit and cup of coffee to recover from my shock!!

SpiritOfEdna · 15/06/2023 14:46

@SummerLobelia dare we ask about the curtains? 😄
@teachyourself welcome - I was a long time viewer of this thread and jumped in when I had put something off for two years :-) I do like a list I can tick off!
My house is definitely looks a lot tidier and is crucially nicer to live in. (despite me moaning about decorators and having to move things around)

RunningKatie · 15/06/2023 18:11

This week is so confusing, yesterday I thought it was Thursday and today I thought it was Wednesday. However, tomorrow is definitely Friday!
Today I started using another beauty product to get through the stash, sad to say I've not suddenly started looking more youthful.
Tonight's job is to cash in the Tesco clubcard vouchers!

SummerLobelia · 15/06/2023 19:24

@SpiritOfEdna the curtains are still in situ!

SpiritOfEdna · 16/06/2023 11:20

@SummerLobelia baby steps!

Today - decorators are back and I am back to back with meetings so very little extra will get done. However, we will be able to sort out the yard tomorrow as the flags will have had three days to let the sealant fix. So that is the big job for tomorrow; as well as moving everything back into the kitchen once the decorators have finished today. Am round at a friends for dinner tonight otherwise I would have loved to have got stuck into it after work.

Today

  • try and organise for a tyre check as my check tyre light came on when driving this morning
  • find some wrapping paper for book :-)
  • buy some alcohold free wine

I am though quite twitchy (!) by things not being in the places they should be. I am looking forward to Sunday evening when everything should be back. in place.
Have a good day all
SoE

Morning all and welcome to our thread @teachyourself 💐

I am currently a very tired cloud who has a shortage of spoons for posting, but still reading and mentally cheering you on 💕

I hope to pop back and contribute to the conversation over the weekend but for today my mission is to clean the bath and clean between sofa cushions.

Best wishes to everyone this lovely sunny day and hopefully not quite as hot as it's been

SummerLobelia · 17/06/2023 06:54

Morning all!

I hope you had a lovely time with your dinner plans @SpiritOfEdna

You are doing MAJOR house projects!!

DH is away and so this weekend I am planning to stealth paint the kitchen window sills. It's another one of those things he insists on doing himself and never gets around to so I am wielding my trusty paintbrush in about 20 minutes time..... Grin

I also forsee some major decluttering ahead.

But, if i may share. Because i am so excited and there is no-one really to share IRL other than DS's dietician.

My DS1 has autism and sensory issues around food and an extremely restricted diet as he panics over food. It worries me so much and we are under a paediatric dietician and he gets supplements.

Last week he made the comment that as he was now a teenager he really ought to be 'eating adult food'. So this week he has;

  • tried steak and frites and salad at our favourite restaurant- rare steak WITH peppercorn sauce!! (Ate about half of it with a very funny expression on his face)
  • Ate bbq chicken wings from the bone with a spinach and tomato salad (all the chicken wings and half the salad)
  • ate chinese style pork spare ribs with stir fried rice
  • two slices of banana (without throwing it back up which is what happened last time my mother made him eat a slice about 5 years back)
  • bought himself a cheese sandwich at school instead of his usual crisps and juice (only ate a third of it... but even so!!)

It is hard to convey what a BIG thing this is!! His diet is mainly raw peppers; carrot sticks; cucumber sticks, strawberries and tomato and battered fish or chicken. With a segue into macaroni cheese or cheese pizza.

I'm not sure he is up yet for cooked vegetables other than sweetcorn but this a such a massive change!!! When we were at the restaurant I only ordered myself a starter in the expectation I would be eating his steak and frites. But he managed a very respectable portion of this and I ended up hungry!!

I am acting all cool at dinner time but actually had a little cry to myself with happiness. Grin

So a little bit of menu planning is on the agenda for today. I might avoid peaking him with steak tartare and raw oysters, Grin but certainly things are looking up on the food front!

Have a great day everyone!!

Thanks
SummerLobelia · 17/06/2023 06:56

Oh x-post @ThunderclapCloud ... I was typing my long post.

Hope you have a restful day and soon feel better. ❤

Peridot1 · 17/06/2023 10:10

@SummerLobelia - excellent news on carpet. Hopefully the new carpets will make him see the curtains don’t really suit?

Fantastic news about your DS! That’s amazing. He has really embraced trying new things in a big way. That’s huge! My DS is almost 22 and also has some sensory issues around food. Always assumed he was just a fussy bugger but a counsellor pointed out it sounded more like sensory issues and I think she was right. I hope he would get better as he got older. He is getting gradually more adventurous but definitely within his own safe zone. Will eat most meats. I count tomato ketchup as one of his five a day! Otherwise only sweetcorn and cucumber. It can be so frustrating. Even now we often cook him a different dinner to us. But your DS is doing amazingly!

@SpiritOfEdna it sounds like you are redecorating your entire house and garden! And if you find some nice alcohol free wine please share! Everything we have tried has been awful.

@ThunderclapCloud - hope you feel better soon. Sounds like a rest day is in order.

Peridot1 · 17/06/2023 10:16

Oh. So busy commenting no news on me! Well there is nothing to report really. Dog is on the mend although using her cone of shame as a weapon. The drain in her side came out yesterday and she appears to have stopped dripping from the wound. Now we have to figure it how to rescue the floor tiles where we used Dettol wipes to wipe up and it’s taken the sheen off in various places. Vet called last night to say both the lumps removed were benign so that’s good news.

I am doing some gardening this morning. Bought some sweet pea plants last week and want to replant them. Bought some supports for them yesterday so will do that this morning. Also need to fix a rose bush in a pot that has black spot. And thin out my salad trough. The rocket has taken over.

Have a great day all.

RunningKatie · 17/06/2023 11:49

@SummerLobelia - the eating thing is amazing, it becomes all consuming adapting meals or making different meals to cater for DSs quirks. Mine will eat no pasta, nothing tomato based or potato based, nothing with a sauce, and nothing mixed together. At our big holiday in December, the lunches are served at the activity site - soup, pasta or jacket potatoes. Realistically I know he won't starve but I've had to tell him he'll be 11 and he needs to try.
Apart from that, this weekend has been super odd, I've ended up in hospital although thankfully not serious but it was quite scary at one point.
This weekend I'm drinking tea and doing a jigsaw!

Peridot1 · 17/06/2023 12:12

Hope you are ok @RunningKatie. Tea and a jigsaw sounds just what the doctor ordered!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 17/06/2023 15:50

@SummerLobelia just waking up and reading your post. 🥲 So very happy for your ds. Your emotions must be running over. 💖

petalpower · 17/06/2023 17:16

That’s a massive achievement for your son @SummerLobelia . How lovely that you shared this with us!
Will be back tomorrow to catch up properly.

SpiritOfEdna · 17/06/2023 18:34

@RunningKatie hope you are ok - sounds scary.
@SummerLobelia absolutely thrilled for your son - and you. I hope he is enjoying his new food adventure.

Aria999 · 17/06/2023 20:10

That's amazing @SummerLobelia

I hope DS7 does the same one day!

SummerLobelia · 17/06/2023 21:30

Thank you so much everyone. Thanks ❤to @Peridot1 @RunningKatie @Aria999 who also experience this with Dcs.

I don't talk much IRL about the struggles with food because it usually triggers advice from people who are well-meaning (or dismissive) and after 13 years I have tried pretty much everything. This time the motivation has come from DS himself. It may not last mind you- BUT I shall enjoy and take solace in it while it does.

Today though we just had fish and chips and icecream in the park. Lovely. Thanks

I hope you are okay @RunningKatie after your hospital scare and that all is fine.

Thanks @Mumtobabyhavoc and @SpiritOfEdna @petalpower for yuor words.

This thread and everyone on it mean alot to me thanks for listening. 💝

Not much was actually achieved in the House of Lobelia though today, but that is fine. Tomorrow is another day!

SummerLobelia · 19/06/2023 06:11

Morning all!

Operation Utility Room begins today. I am devoting 45 minutes a day to it until it is finished.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Peridot1 · 19/06/2023 08:00

Morning all.

Didn’t do much over the weekend. Just the basics.

Today’s job list:

  • wrap parcel for friend who had a baby and post it
  • tidy kitchen surfaces which have become a bit cluttered again
  • ironing
  • change DS’s bed
  • go for a walk

That’s about it!

ThunderclapCloud · 19/06/2023 08:34

Hello everyone! I was so happy to read your posts @SummerLobelia 💐
Pleased to hear doggie is on the mend @Peridot1 and I hope you are ok now @RunningKatie!
We've had thunderstorms here again and it's cool and sunny here now which is lovely.

Feeling a little stretched as we're running my mum's household as well as mine at the moment. It's going ok and luckily she's local. Not sure what the future holds. I'm attempting to maintain 'kettle boiling jobs' as little things add up and I haven't got the time or energy for big projects.
I do love the inspiration from all your posts and I enjoy the little snapshots from your lives. We're really all at different stages aren't we? Happy that were a support of sorts for each other!

I must go and do something useful (first full day off work for a while thankfully) so apologies to people I haven't mentioned but big wave to you all 👋

SpiritOfEdna · 19/06/2023 09:31

Morning

Busy weekend - all garden/alley work has been completed now - just up to us to fill the border with soil & plants. The shed is now back outside and full of 'shed stuff'. Spent the rest of the weekend shifting furniture back into place and I am now writing this from my new home office under the stairs. We have the joy of no tradesmen in and out today; which is good as I have a busy day of back to back meetings.

Today

  • start turning the office room back into a bedroom - set the bed up
  • put books back on bookcase
  • there is a lot of filing around, am going to dedicate 15 mins to it every day this week. This will definitely make a difference.
Have a good day all SoE
ThunderclapCloud · 19/06/2023 10:17

That sounds great @SpiritOfEdna well done!
Such a treat to have the house back, I imagine!
I think I'm going to take a leaf out of @Peridot1's book and go for a walk. I have blues that need shaking which is very unlike me.
I had cause to go into a neighbour's home last week. It's similar on the outside but somehow more homely than mine so it's inspired me. It's very well organised and they've had a bit of work done so make it that bit more practical to live in. Also, the garden is gorgeous and well planned
#life goals!
