@Peridot1 hope the BBQ is in full swing, everyone's eaten and are now on their way home :-)
@petalpower @RunningKatie We are going to Docking, 6 weeks tomorrow, I cannot WAIT. I don't care if it rains, it's dog friendly, the cottage looks lovely and I can read lots of books and stay in bed beyond 6am.

Today:

  • finally handed over to next door a birthday gift for their one year old
  • picked up a returned item from Vinted - after trying to pick it up yesterday and the guy telling me he had sent it back..... even though it had only arrived there at 09:30 #confused
  • I need to find a ParcelShop to send another one out
  • sort some drawers out (it's catching: I have seen the hoarding thread (if same one) and had the same twitch response)
  • today's hall activity: take down the pictures, shelves and coat rack from the walls in prep for decorator, clean the picture rail, the skirting boards are actually still pristine from a previous big clean
That might be it for today. SoE

It’s the calm before the storm here. Waiting for caterers to arrive. Tables are all set up. Just need to put table cloths etc on. Helpers are coming at 5. Helpers being the other four —idiots— guys who bid for bbq. A couple came to move furniture and set up tables earlier.

SpringLobelia · 08/06/2023 19:18

@Peridot1 hope everything is going brilliantly.

Peridot1 · 09/06/2023 00:51

A quick pic! It was a really good night! Good fun. Dancing later. Really nice. Shattered now!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/06/2023 01:01

@Peridot1 Success! Congrats! 😄

Aria999 · 09/06/2023 01:58

@Peridot1 OMG! You did it! And your garden looks superb!

Now to spend some time recovering!

petalpower · 09/06/2023 08:15

Well done @Peridot1 , looks fantastic! Is your husband forgiven yet? 😂
I bet you’re exhausted.

SpiritOfEdna · 09/06/2023 14:19

@Peridot1 lovely - glad you had a fab time after all the hard work you put in.

Peridot1 · 09/06/2023 14:36

@petalpower - he is just about forgiven!

We are both shattered now. Most of the clearing up is done. Getting fish and chips for dinner as too tired to do anything else.

Everyone seems to enjoy it and general consensus was it needs to be an annual event. Not too sure about that bit but at least it would ensure DH keeps up with the garden! Grin

RunningKatie · 09/06/2023 21:40

So glad it went well @Peridot1
Delighted it's Friday night, we've done a long walk tonight and I'm shattered. Ddog is zonked on the floor!

SummerLobelia · 10/06/2023 10:56

So pleased the BBQ went well @Peridot1 ! if you do not host next year you can be assured you have created a hard act to follow! Fish and chips was a good call I think.

All okay here. I have gone a little crazy buying plants for a tricky garden bed that seems to not have anything grow in it. It used to have box topiary but they got box blight. Now I am trying agapanthus and scabiosa. We will see!!

SummerLobelia · 10/06/2023 11:04

Other tasks for the day-

  • do a wash and iron 2 loads
  • clean kitchen
  • water pots (although i think rain is scheduled later)

I am really tired today. Not sure why.

Peridot1 · 10/06/2023 11:33

I’m tired too @SummerLobelia. I assume it’s the heat. Just helped DH tidy the patio and took the dog for a walk while he power washed the patio. Now looking for ways to get grease stains off patio slabs.

I love agapanthus and have plans for a bed of purple agapanthus in the front garden in front of a small fence. Be warned they can be invasive - apparently the trick is to remove the dead flower heads before they set seed.

No plans here today. Have a wash on which I will hang up and then I’m just going to read in a shady spot in the garden. Burgers and sausages on the bbq with some salad for dinner this evening.

SpiritOfEdna · 12/06/2023 14:09

Morning. Weekend was massively busy, prepping for arrival of decorators and paving guys today - back and forth to the tip and discovered when we ripped the stair carpet down that we need to replace some of the treads. We knew there had been a house fire years ago in the house, but looking at the stairs there's a bit more damage then we thought - it makes sense to get it sorted now whilst we are in fixing mode.

Today is going to be noisy - I am sure I will be moving about the house looking for quiet spots as I have meetings all afternoon which need quite a bit of concentration as I am facilitating them all. If I wasn't on a holiday diet I would be looking forward to a glass of wine tonight (and I cannot remember the last time I had a glass of wine on a school night :-))

Today

  • we have a date for living room/lounge redecoration so we are going to move all the furniture back to where it was and at least have it looking somewhat tidy.
  • do a check a trade for the stairs and some other work
  • break up some more wood for the tip
This has been on my screen all day - pavers been and gone, all old pavement has gone, new stuff still not in stock. Decorators coming back tomorrow to do gloss paint in hall etc; so it is finally quiet.

A cloudy name change here, to match our esteemed Lobelia and in recognition of the current weather conditions.
Just popping in to say hello, amd I did think of you on Thursday @Peridot1 I'm so glad it was a success, and the picture is gorgeous!
Will pop in again. Stupidly been working nights ( I know better than to volunteer but still I do it!) Very tired.

Best wishes to all. House looks like the end of a week with children, despite just being me n himself.

SummerLobelia · 12/06/2023 17:23

Loving the namechange @ThunderclapCloud !

I hope you get a good rest and that the nights are soon over. Thanks

@SpiritOfEdna I need a holiday diet as well! (She says as she sips her wine) Blush

all okay here. DH has a 3 week consultancy job away which is brilliant as we are in need of the extra funds it will bring in. He leaves tomorrow and will be back just one weekend. Depending on how hard he puts the hours in he might be back earlier. He is looking forward to it as has been feeling unchallenged lately. I'll miss him of course but the Dcs and I tend to be very self indulgent when he is away - pizzas and movie nights and the like, (he does not like either!) so we will muddle through. Smile . I am pleased though- He is basically retired but will pick up this sort of thing every year or so and he really enjoys it so this is great.

Last few weeks of school as well which i am overjoyed about.

Today it was all I could manage to clear the kitchen. Hopefully tomorrow I will be able to do mroe. I am taking the cats to the cattery for a trial run before our summer holiday. Just an overnight stay so our new girl knows we are coming back (she was 6 months in the RSPCA).

Best wishes to everyone!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/06/2023 21:49

I see I haven't updated almost 2 weeks! Well, two weeks ago was my last big clean. Have been battling suspected covid 5 weeks now, but finally beginning to feel better.
Saturday was an energetic day of laundry, steam cleaning sliding glass door track and washing and steam cleaning floors. New mattress protector arrived early last week and is now washed and on bed #1. It is surprisingly good quality for $50 and has a 15 year warranty. Although I highly doubt I'll remember that if it wears out early. Note to self: do not put it in a hot dryer.

SpiritOfEdna · 13/06/2023 08:53

I have been up since five - the doggo woke me up with her heavy panting so I got up with her for a while. But while she is snoozing on the sofa I am battling with the desire for toast. I can't eat till ten so I am on here trying to distract myself; I've already distracted myself this morning with an Edith Wharton short story and am reading King Leah again as I am going to see it in November. I am getting distracted by the notes I put in the margins first time round as a 15 year old :-) Very highbrow - although am sufficiently intrigued to read more Wharton.

Today is an easier day meeting wise - yesterday was very full on but with lots of follow ons to do today; but hopefully will be able to do some stuff in and around various meetings.

  • water the plants
  • look through books and see if there is anything more to go to recycling.
  • clear up and move furniture back into hall once the decorators have gone and everything is dry - we might have some room in the kitchen then.

That's it for today; have a good day

SoE

Aria999 · 13/06/2023 15:04

Hi folks

DS7 has a week at home today (school is out and summer camp starts next week) so we are not getting much done!

I did pay him $5 to vacumop the kitchen floor though.

Peridot1 · 14/06/2023 08:47

Morning all

I haven’t been up to much this week. Still recovering from last week and our dog had surgery on Monday which took it out of her so I’ve been doggy nursemaid. Hoping to get back to getting jobs done today.

Today’s jobs -

  • wrap parcel to send to a friend who had a baby - have had it all for about a month
  • change DS’s bed
  • ironing
  • sort my T-shirts - need to swap jumpers from a drawer and put T-shirts in
  • sit in garden and read

Have a great day all.

RunningKatie · 14/06/2023 09:07

I'm on a mission to use up lotions and potions that are sat around. It's going well, another 2 bottles into the recycling today! And I'm freeing up space in cupboards. I need to find somewhere that takes unopened/used cosmetics, I have a small stash from a beauty advent calendar and will never use them.
It's rather warm today so I ironed school uniform before it got too hot and have got a wash on now ready to go out at coffee break time!

SpiritOfEdna · 14/06/2023 09:43

hello - we may get some peace later on today with everyone finishing up today 😃
Today for me

  • list some more clothes on Vinted - have sold three things so far, 1 returned so am heading into the worn once for wedding outfits territory
  • order a book online and hope it turns up by Friday
  • clean the garden shed which is current opposite me in the kitchen and it is filthy 😄
  • I need to find and watch a YT video on how to thread my sewing machine - everytime I use it the thread snaps - dont know if it is cheap thread/I'm setting it up incorrectly or the tension is all wrong. I have loads of sewing to do.
That's all for today, have a good day SoE
SummerLobelia · 14/06/2023 11:33

Hello all!

Hope your dog is much better @Peridot1

I am about to .. [cracks knuckles...] clean the entire kitchen including cupboards.

First though I need to look for a nice lengthy podcast to accompany me while I do so.

SummerLobelia · 14/06/2023 19:53

Evening - hope everyone is well.

I got through half of the kitchen in about 2 hours. I was being really thorough. I will finish off the rest tomorrow and Friday I hope. Then my plan is to go in an anti clockwise circle around every room of the house and just blitz through them completely no matter how long each one takes. Next after the kitchen will be the utility room- which is a fancy name for a cupboard that contains a whole lot of plastic bags and a broken tumble drier. Hmm

SpiritOfEdna · 15/06/2023 11:52

@SummerLobelia - hope you found a good podcast to listen to whilst you do it.

Today

  • just as we thought we would have a gap in between decorating, he can come back and do another room tomorrow, which is great but will mean another evening of shifting furniture from one room to another 😄
  • paving guys back on Saturday to finish off building a border
  • try on a dress for a wedding I've been invited to in October (am hoping the zip at least does up, I guess my holiday diet may extend)
  • I need a plan for tidying up my bedroom - it's been a dumping ground for everything that does not have a home. I might steal the idea of moving round the room anti-clockwise.
That's it for today, have a good day @Peridot1 hope the doggo is recovering, mins is snoozing by my feet. SoE
