I just wrote a long post whilst sitting at the garage getting my tyre fixed and it’s disappeared into thin air so I’ll try again!
Ended up at my local garage after the tyre warning light came on - a screw was stuck in the tyre. Now fixed.
Met lovely ante natal group friends for lunch, we’re still meeting up after 23 years! Also managed to go to the post office, list some more clothes on eBay, buy as other birthday present for DH and go to the butchers and greengrocers.
I’m not sure I like the sound of micro needling! I’m also definitely not ready for grey hair and am wedded to my trips to the hairdressers every six weeks.

MoreCloudsThanYouCanImagine · 03/06/2023 06:14

The allergy cards look good, and I particularly like the ones in other languages @SummerLobelia

It sounds like there's been a bit of frustration around these parts lately with things not going to plan, so all good wishes for a smooth and productive weekend everyone!

Sun's come out again here. I'm really enjoying the current temperatures as I think it was about this time last year that we were heading towards that heatwave.

I don't have a lot of spare time today, but what I do have is a plan to make a start on sorting through every drawer in the house across this coming week, starting today.

I also need to buy something suitable for a July wedding, which I will find challenging and I need to do it soon, as I'm unlikely to find anything that won't need altering.

It's Saturday already! Comes around so fast! Hope you all have a lovely weekend 💐

SummerLobelia · 04/06/2023 05:42

Morning all!

Up bright and early today. The early light woke me and I am bouncing around the house (quietly).

You have reminded me I need a dress for a wedding also @MoreCloudsThanYouCanImagine I am losing weight slowly (1 stone 4 pounds down since August last year- but mainly due to being unwell) and need at least another stone off before I think I would feel confortable though- work in progress!

Taking the DCs to the cinema today for the end of half term treat.

I like the idea of clearing out every single drawer in the house!!

DH has finished painting the sitting room so today we need to put everything back in it's place. My stealth new curtain plan has not yet some off properly.... also a work in progress.

have a great day everyone!

Peridot1 · 04/06/2023 09:28

Morning all

Operation Garden Transformation still on the go here so house stuff is not on radar. Could definitely do with clearing out every drawer though. That’s a good plan for after this week. The BBQ is on Thursday so we are almost there. Can’t wait till it’s all over. I can then get on with other stuff without feeling I should be doing stuff in the garden and we will have the bonus of a nice tidy garden for summer. Our neighbours came over yesterday evening for a bbq and really noticed a difference. Just need DH to keep on top of it all now.

Today’s plan is helping DH weed our raised veg beds. One is easy and has some things planted in already. The other two are full of a variety of weeds and grasses and poppies and thistles which are waist high. I think it’s the last big job other than finishing power washing the side of the house.

Hope you get your curtains sorted @SummerLobelia.

petalpower · 04/06/2023 09:44

How long until your big bbq hosting event @Peridot1 ? Sounds like you and your husband have made lots of progress with your garden.
We’re part of a local village garden group and earlier in the year they asked for people to open their gardens in a very informal and unthreatening way. We assumed most people would say yes from the group but there’s only two gardens to visit this year and one of them is ours. Husband is very busy every weekend cutting things down and replanting as we lost quiet a lot of plants in last summer’s hot weather.
I quite like the sound of the drawer project too.

Peridot1 · 04/06/2023 09:54

BBQ is on Thursday @petalpower. If I don’t murder DH first. I suppose it could serve as his wake. We are currently not speaking after a row last night. About the sodding BBQ. I am so fed up with it all. I’m sure it will be fine in the end but grrr!

petalpower · 04/06/2023 10:34

Oh no @Peridot1 . At the least the bbq will be done and dusted soon. Sounds like it’s created a fair bit of tension but hopefully you have the bonus of your garden looking lovely for the summer. Do I remember that it’s all catered so fingers crossed you don’t have to do too much in terms of organising.
Our garden looks like a bloody garden centre at the moment as DH bought 140 plug plants which are now all potted on and sitting on the patio tables so there’s no room to sit down and eat. He doesn’t want to plant them out just yet and is worried about rabbits nibbling them if he leaves them at ground level.

Peridot1 · 04/06/2023 11:31

It is indeed catered thankfully @petalpower. No way I’d be doing it otherwise! Lots of tension still though. There are other couples involved and some are easier to deal with than others shall we say!

Your garden project sounds like something we would do! 140 plants is a lot to plant out!

MoreCloudsThanYouCanImagine · 04/06/2023 14:29

My drawer project was something I saw a poster mention on a thread elsewhere I think. I've only done one but it felt good and I will continue.

@Peridot1 my sympathies re the sodding husband BBQ! Although i wonder if it would be worth planning one here just to give me a kick up the backside to get our garden nice...

I currently have elderly parent stresses. She needs support but I have to do it by stealth as she is bloodyminded very independent.

So I'm going to go and read in the garden I think.

petalpower · 04/06/2023 16:16

Sympathies re the elderly parent stress @MoreCloudsThanYouCanImagine .The independent ones are hard going! Was just having a lovely sunny relaxed garden lunch with DH when I heard my phone ring in the house. Decided to ignore it and carry on with my lovely lunch (and glass of chilled white!). Came inside to find it was the nursing home who’d called (care home auntie) and I then couldn’t get them to answer the phone for ages. Had visions of having to leap in the car and go over but it was only to do with some missing shoes and a medical issue I’d mentioned yesterday whilst visiting. Then felt guilty for ignoring the ringing phone earlier.

SummerLobelia · 04/06/2023 16:29

Afternoon all.

So sorry about stresses with elderly loved ones @petalpower and @MoreCloudsThanYouCanImagine . I hope all is well. Thanks

I am sure the BBQ will be a great success @Peridot1 but certainly sympathise with the very real strains and stresses of sorting it out. Thanks

I have had a very active day. watered all the pots. Planted out some plants. Stood with a finger stroking my chin ruminating about what to do about (yet) another messy garden corner. Cooked NewCat some hotdogs which she prefers to Dreamies as a snack. Took the Dcs to a film and pizza hut. Did a serious amount of life admin while Dcs were finishing up homework before school starts tomorrow. Cleared the fish pond. Ordered a (hopefully) nice japanese garden statue for our garden pond as watched Monty Don's Japanese Gardens last night and became inspired. Did two loads of washing and 3 loads of ironing. I am feeling quite tired but content. My self imposed social media ban during the bulk of the day seems to be working for now .

Oh! I was asked up thread about how DH felt about his surprise 2 new fish! He was very touched. He had been quite distraught when his favourite fish died so soon after our beloved cat. The new fish is the only one that is white and gold so easily identifiable when they swim around.

Hope everyone has a lovely relaxing evening.

MoreCloudsThanYouCanImagine · 04/06/2023 16:30

@petalpower let me absolve you of the guilt 💕 You know she's being looked after, and nothing is so urgent that it can't wait an hour! But I know the feeling of needing to be on the alert at all times 💐

I didn't sit in the garden in the end. I've had the house to myself so I've been having a clear out. A ruthless one at that! When life feels stressful I get a need for space and calm. And being naturally a bit lazy and untidy, it's easiest to restore calm by getting rid of stuff. I reset to zero from time to time, DH is easy going about stuff - happy with or without it though I never get rid of his treasures, but our kids keep rocking up and dumping stuff on us. I'm about to get a little bit more fierce about that I think as I feel after 34 years it's time we had a space of our own. They all have homes- but it's ours that gets filled with their crap for some reason.
I don't have any attachment to stuff at all and I hope they'll appreciate that if/when they need to clear our house.
There is a hoarding thread somewhere on the forum which has made me twichy, plus I still work in a few homes which have decades of stuff in that nobody wants but nobody will get rid of.
It's definitely a stress response!

MoreCloudsThanYouCanImagine · 04/06/2023 16:32

My goodness @SummerLobelia and it's only half past four!! I'm tired just reading that!

SummerLobelia · 04/06/2023 16:41

This sort of activity does not come naturally @MoreCloudsThanYouCanImagine 😆

At one point DH poked his head into the kitchen as I was food prepping for dinner and asked; 'Is it safe to come in, or are you still being efficient?'.

It might take me a day or two to recover!!

Peridot1 · 04/06/2023 17:07

Wow @SummerLobelia - that is some going! Slow down - you’ll put the rest of us to shame! Grin

@petalpower - glad it wasn’t something urgent but I’m sure you felt bad. No need though.

Sounds like a productive afternoon @MoreCloudsThanYouCanImagine!

I have done nothing pretty much. A load of washing and have just thrown together a Ragu for lasagna for dinner tonight. Sat in the garden with my book for an hour.

petalpower · 04/06/2023 20:28

Thank you all for your kind comments. I feel as though I’m looking after or keeping an eye on 3 x 80+ year old ladies, none of whom are my own dear mum ( who died 16 years ago). Care home auntie, stepmother and MIL. Making sure I pass on info to the actual children of my MIL and step mother. Might be easier if I cared less but that’s not my style! Everyone seems to be getting a bit frail and rickety.

SummerLobelia · 05/06/2023 05:32

aaah @petalpower Thanks

That is very very tough. 🌷

petalpower · 05/06/2023 16:01

Thank you @SummerLobelia I was just feeling a bit sorry for myself last night but normal service has now resumed!
I’ve done my first drawer today - just a small one next to the hob but ticked off anyway. ✔️
Got in touch with the gp surgery (I love the ask my GP service, so efficient) about my ongoing ankle problem. I think it’s an Achilles problem. Was directed to an NHS self referral physio service and have already heard back from them with a list of exercises and the promise of an appointment in the next couple of weeks. ✔️
Took 5 parcels to the post office. Mostly eBay sales. Managed to send my daughter’s swimming costume to her old 2nd year uni house by mistake rather than her current one. What a twerp I am! ✔️
Made the first bit of DH’s birthday cake. ✔️
Having a bit of a dilemma about a meeting I’ve agreed to go to tonight but don’t really want to. Village fundraising committee type thing. I really don’t want to join any groups like that as I feel I’ve got enough going on with all the oldies etc but feel guilty that maybe I should just do it as it always ends up being the same people in small communities doing things like that and maybe it’s my turn. Tonight is just an informal observer type thing so no need to make a decision today.

SpiritOfEdna · 06/06/2023 14:47

well hello.

Busy couple of days here. We finally have new radiators downstairs and decorator is due next week to paint hall, landing and stairs having picked up the paint at the weekend. Dom the door man came and measured up for french windows and replacement bathroom window. AND today we have booked a holiday for July, going to Norfolk where I have always wanted to go. 40 days-ish to fit into a swimsuit :-) Tbf - I dont even care if the weather is bad it's a holiday.

For the rest of the day:

  • doggo needs a walk! But she looks all beautiful and clean after a groom this morning. One muddy pond will destroy all that cute fluffiness :-)
  • get all the unwanted frames for the old wardrobes outside ready for the tip.
  • put all the paint back in the shed
  • water all the plants
  • give the cupboard in the hall a good clear out so it can be moved for decorator - it was tidy once!

Hope everyone is having a good day

SoE

SpringLobelia · 07/06/2023 05:35

Yay to booking a holiday @SpiritOfEdna ! I hope you have a wonderful time!!

You have reminded me I need to do a tip run- but next week as this week is busier than usual.

Not alot to report here although yesterday I did pull the pond weeds out of the fishpond. They need daily attention right now as one of the weeds is awful and very fine so the fish get caught. My new garden pond statue arrived and it is tacky in the extreme. No wonder- ordering online can be a trap! I have half hidden him in the foliage around the pond and will take a view.

Peridot1 · 07/06/2023 09:37

Morning all!

BBQ is tomorrow. So we are in final organising mode. Garden/outside area is almost there. Tables and chairs being delivered today. Beer and soft drinks arrived yesterday. They need to go in fridge in garage.

Today’s list:

  • clear utility room so I can move a lot from the kitchen surfaces into there to give caterers kitchen space
  • clear a drawer in the garage freezer for ice
  • cut grass edges in back garden
  • help DH move furniture off the patio
  • General house tidy for cleaners coming
  • strip a bed and wash bedding

@SummerLobelia - even buying in person doesn’t guarantee you’ll get it right! I bought some solar stake lights to put in the flower beds along the patio for the BBQ. Set them all up and when they came on in the dark they turned it to be colour changing ones not the tasteful white I was expecting! Tiny little label on each one says they are rainbow lights. Which the display in the garden centre definitely didn’t! They are definitely tacky but actually maybe ok for tomorrow.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/06/2023 17:28

Peridot, have fun at your party tomorrow! (And get a good sleep tonight!). ☺️

RunningKatie · 08/06/2023 09:35

Good luck for the BBQ @Peridot1 - i hope it is worth all of your hard work, and that you're not ordering a patio to put your dh under.
@SpiritOfEdna - Norfolk is so lovely. It's my childhood home too. Where are you going? We go every year - we are there in August, I cannot wait.
I have sold some toys! Except the lady came and I realised one was missing, so I ransacked the house, rang dh, apologised profusely and promised to drop it at hers. It was in the loft, strangely dh knew exactly where....
However, as a consequence of turning the house upside down, I found a missing calculator, badger finger puppet and another stash of badges to be sewn onto a uniform!

petalpower · 08/06/2023 10:00

Good luck for the bbq @Peridot1 . This time tomorrow it will all be over!!
We’re going to North Norfolk in September @SpiritOfEdna and @RunningKatie ! We love it there.

Peridot1 · 08/06/2023 12:52

Thanks all. Last minute shopping this morning and now just finishing a cup of tea before clearing some space in the fridge for the caterers and getting outside organised.

DS kindly informed me that he tried all our outside lights last night when it was dark and they are not bright enough. I’m kind of hoping everyone will have gone by the time it’s dark!
