Morning all

Jealous of the Lego kit @RunningKatie. I love Lego. I’ve kept all of DS’s from when he was little and I have some too. I plan to try and build all of the kits that DS had at some stage. They are mostly all mixed up now so it will be a very long project and I think I might need a dedicated room for it!

@MoreCloudsThanYouCanImagine - I love getting lost in a novel too and I know just what you mean about losing that focus. I try to sit and read around 4pm most afternoons for an hour which has made a difference. Spending too much time in line definitely doesn’t help.

Garden work continued yesterday for DH although I didn’t do much. Had a day off! Will do more today - have a plant to put into a pot and some white lobelia to put into some troughs and some tomato plants to plant. And maybe some strimming. Also need to get DS to bring down his washing.

Have a great day everyone.

RunningKatie · 29/05/2023 18:32

@Mumtobabyhavoc - it's the orchid lego set, it's not at all difficult but I got it for my birthday and it's now 4 months later! It's now sitting up in our bedroom so I can admire it and it's safe from marauding small children (half term here this week, so the dc are feral!).
Today I've ordered a new fitbit strap and pre-ordered a book published in September. I've also done some life admin paperwork and drunk half a cider in the sunshine.
Hope everyone is having a lovely bank holiday, I'm off work tomorrow - we're baking cakes and attempting tie-dye.

SpiritOfEdna · 30/05/2023 10:00

morning

Everyone's been really busy! I spent most of the bank holiday Monday dismantling wardrobes into movable pieces and then reassambling. They don't look how I expected in their new area, but I still have to put the doors back on, maybe they will look better then. More rubbish has gone to the tip; moved all furniture back into place now plastering has been finished.

I had a disappointed message via Vinted that one of the dresses I sent out had a faulty zip and wasn't lying flat, so it will come back to me. I suspect they just didn't like it on. It was way too long for me so it had never even been tried on (still had tags on). I did sell a jacket on Sunday, so we'll see how that goes.

Today

  • check pavers are still coming on Thursday
  • put doors on wardrobes
  • ordered brackets to attach wardrobes to wall - if they arrive early-ish I will put them on
  • general tidying around - need to gather up all the tools and put back into shed
  • busy day at work need to work out when I can walk doggo
  • I have to stop googling new wardrobes :-)

Have a good day all

SoE

Afternoon all!
I can tell it's my day off, it's gone really chilly today so my outdoor adventure plans are scuppered. In the meantime, we done some tie-dye, I've phoned the mortgage company and sorted some travel insurance too. Also got a load of washing on a very blowy line!
I'm going to try selling some things on facebook, if it doesn't sell then it's off to the charity shop. I'm tired of things piling up again.

petalpower · 30/05/2023 15:50

It’s really chilly here too. Lots of washing on the line but not that blowy in my garden so am keeping my fingers crossed it all dries outside and I don’t have to resort to the airer overnight.
Went to our local fairly large garden centre to buy plants for the hanging basket and back doorstep pot - disaster, no trailing geraniums or ordinary ones which are my plants of choice. Got some other ones for the hanging basket which I’ve now planted up but am going to hang on a bit longer for the pot and try other places.
Booked my husband’s birthday dinner at a local restaurant, hoovered my car out, did a huge pile of ironing and made a trip to the post office to send my dad’s birthday present, an eBay sale and a return to M and S.
Come back sunshine, this weather is really disappointing for the time of year.

Peridot1 · 30/05/2023 16:31

Hello all

You always seem to get so much done @SpiritOfEdna!

Yesterday I did some washing, planted tomato plants, lobelia and a cosmos. DH attacked the out of control jungle in various areas. Some of the weeds and nettles and thistles were waist high. Ridiculous!

Today I weeded the two olive trees in pots by the front door and tried to do some weeding in the gravel driveway. It was too cold to do much else. Also got a wash out onto the line. And have just been for a facial.

Peridot1 · 30/05/2023 17:49

Oh and while I was out for my facial I dropped off four bags of clothes to the charity boxes in the car park! That feels like an accomplishment! Grin. They have been in the spare bedroom since Jan/Feb.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 30/05/2023 19:08

Reading with interest everyone's tasks today - well done all! 😄 (jealous of the facial!) 😁
It feels so good to clear the garden and sort closets. I've got another row of clothes to sort in my closet, too.

I've just stripped a bed including mattress protector and it's all in the wash. I vacuumed then steamed the mattress and rotated it. I then steamed the curtains, window tracks, window, screen and sill and have wiped it all. Now airing it out. Phew! That's bedroom #2 done. 🤗

I'm now eyeing the screen on the sliding door to the deck. There is so much pollen attached and cottonwood fluff is starting to build up. I just cleaned it, too! 🤬Will be on my list. 😇

Aria999 · 31/05/2023 17:49

Put knee patches on 2 pairs of DS trousers

Went up to the school to put the carnival stuff back in the cupboard

Now have a ton of laundry to fold

petalpower · 31/05/2023 19:59

Ironed and photographed 15 clothing items ready to list on eBay ✔️
Sorted the summer clothes that I’d put in the cupboard (too cold to wear them though!) ✔️
Set aside 4 moth holed cardigans to take to textile recycling ✔️
Worried about DD who’s in the middle of uni finals and DS who’s had a bad day at work ✔️

RunningKatie · 31/05/2023 20:45

Rinsed out the tie-dye creations from yesterday, now I apparently have to wash them all separately on a gentle wash. I'm going for a hand wash as I'm not running a machine for a pillowcase!
Been to the office today so not achieved much, however the stuff that I listed on fb super cheap has hopefully sold. So this will clear a big space which is fab.
Only got one dc tonight, the other is on a sleepover so the house is calm and quiet. We miss him!

MoreCloudsThanYouCanImagine · 01/06/2023 06:12

Morning! Proud of self here as have maintained my clean car for a whole week! She does a lot of quite grubby miles so I going to take her for a wash and wax today.
Once again i must wash the shower curtain.
A pet appointment to book ( have procrastinated on this which is ridiculous- how hard is it really to just pick up the phone?! (Other pet appts get booked online so I'm better with those as I do them when i think of them, not necessarily during office hours)

I have very busy work day today so that's as ambitious as I intend to be. Loving reading all your updates and apologies for lack of engagement 💐

Peridot1 · 01/06/2023 10:18

Another day and more gardening. It is all looking much better. Still quite a bit to do but definitely getting there.

Yesterday I did some strimming around trees and cut down some nettles along the back fence.

Today’s tasks -

  • plant two new patio roses into pots (need to empty and wash the pots first)
  • finish putting bark on two beds on edge of patio

Then I have a facial micro needling treatment booked and can’t go out in the sun afterwards so am planning on doing some ironing.

SpiritOfEdna · 01/06/2023 14:36

Morning

Frustrating day!

  • no sign of the pavers - although they hadn't been responding to messages for confirmation, so am not surprised they had not turned up. Am now facebook/instagram stalking. I did find loads of pictures of our yard on their facebook page which surprised me. They are supposed to be coming back August to seal the flags they put in in January.
  • took doggo to park and thought I'd lost house key, found it in a nook in the car.
  • went to photograph another top to find ink stains on the bottom. Very annoying as it had never been worn
  • exploding beans in the microwave!!

However to rescue my day:

  • doggo is snoozing by my feet and making adorable snuffly noises
  • there were horses in the field quite close the path when walking doggo and they were very friendly; mooching for food I suspect. Luckily I don't think anyone realises they are there otherwise they would get mithered (and fed) as it's near a very popular picnic area and I know it's a big NO to feeding them
  • I don't have a very busy afternoon meeting wise so I am going to have a run around for an hour later tidying up; we may have TheNiece staying at the weekend so we need a good tidy up
  • finish sorting the wardrobes out and get doors on and then fix them to the walls

One more burst of energy to finish some work and then I'll do some tidying up :-)

SpiritOfEdna · 01/06/2023 15:13

@Peridot1 very interested in the microneedling - is it painful?

Peridot1 · 01/06/2023 15:26

@SpiritOfEdna - it wasn’t painful. I felt it all right but it wasn’t painful at all. She also applied a peel after which was felt hot but not unpleasant. I am now bright pink though!

SummerLobelia · 01/06/2023 19:03

oooh! Microneedling. I shall look into it. I need to also get a haircut and i am going very grey.

I am SummerLobelia today as it is the first day of meteorological summer. Grin

Sorry for silence- busy few days and I had another slump.

I am mainly managing to keep on top of pot watering and am making very good progress on clearing up as I go. But that is about it for now. I also managed to chase down the vaccination details for our rescue cat. It had gone missing in the rescue centre and needed some dogged following up but I have done it and am very proud.

SummerLobelia · 02/06/2023 06:16

Morning all.

I have found a micro-needling place near me that looks very good so think I will definitely check it out. Thanks for the idea @Peridot1 ! I have forgotten about self care for a good 5 years or so and need to pay attention- for me.

Not sure what I will do today. I have a few errands to run and some washing. If the weather improves it might be a garden day.

MoreCloudsThanYouCanImagine · 02/06/2023 06:46

Ooh I just googled micro-needling and I think I shall pass! I have found a mobile hairdresser though, and she keeps my barnet looking respectable, and doesn't bother me with product and fancy blow drying so I'm happy 😊 Half an hour, every 5 weeks which is ideal for me!

Funnily enough I've gone grey and my waistline has spread, yet I feel more confident in how I look than I ever have before. I think I was born middle aged, and now I am actually middle aged, the look sits right with me.

MoreCloudsThanYouCanImagine · 02/06/2023 06:51

My middle aged self has a busy day today. Some work calls, but squeezing in a meet up with an old friend. And I'm planning a cull on unread books and magazines as well.
I've culled a lot of pictures from my phone too, and within the next week I hope to get some favourites printed out or made into a printed album. That particular thing has been on my to do list for months.

I hope you are all ok 💕

SummerLobelia · 02/06/2023 06:52

I'm not quite sure I am ready for grey yet. My hair is very fine and wispy. Now, if I were like DH's cousin who has jet black hair save for a single grey stripe (and all natural!!) I would be delighted Grin

problem is I am too naturally lazy to actually book a hairdresser and instead will just mumble about it. Grin

It's very cloudy and windy here today. Not inspiring weather at all.

Peridot1 · 02/06/2023 09:00

@SummerLobelia - make sure it’s a pretty decent clinic rather than a beauty salon. They should offer you a consultation first and explain it all rather than just let you book a session.

I need a hair appointment too. I waver about embracing the grey but usually succumb to the dye. My aunts tell me they are not old enough to go grey so nor am I apparently! I used to be darkish but gradually lightened it over the years and am now blond so the regrowth isn’t too noticeable. It’s also thinned a lot though so if I have it too light all you see along my parting is scalp. Bloody aging! It’s not for cissies as my mother used to say!

I didn’t do the ironing yesterday. I’ve decided it has all been lying on the bed in the spare room for three months so needs a wash first so I’ll do that over the weekend.

DH is off to a cricket thing today and I’m dropping him and some friends off at 11. May head out shopping. May just come home and chill!

SummerLobelia · 02/06/2023 14:33

Dash post and run.

My Dfather also says aging is not for cissies. Those exact words. Grin

Considering my mother has just this week had a neobladder reconstruction which sounds horrific in every single possible way I am more than inclined to agree.

SummerLobelia · 02/06/2023 14:43

Oh- and my achievement for today-

Ordered allergy cards from AllergyUK for our summer holiday. These are brilliant. I buy the hard copy cards- they come in a range of languages and are the size of a credit card you can fit in your purse. It explians if you have an allergy- if a restaurant needs to be aware- if you are in anaphylaxis and need emergency services.

This is the second time we have ordered- simple phone call and talking to a real life person!!) and it is as easy as pie.

Highly recommend!!

Translation Cards

Translation cards are available from Allergy UK and will ensure others are made aware of your allergy despite any language barriers.

SnowAndIceLobelia · 02/06/2023 14:44

Oh and thanls @Peridot1 about the recommendation for a decent clinic. That is good advice. I think I may have found one - run by a person who is an actual doctor and surgeon.
