Morning all! How are we? Happy Saturday 💐

I'm heading up to the loft shortly so I can clear a bit of space to put some bits and bobs. Also trying to decide whether we need a new bookcase or if a shelf will do.

RunningKatie · 04/03/2023 11:06

@AllTheExtraClouds A new bookcase is always the answer! I am on a book hunt for a book I've definitely owned in the past and suspect I've ditched in a sort out. Now dd is reaching an age where they are on her recommended reading list.
I've just started stocking up on Easter eggs for nieces and nephews. Trying to be organised but now I need to hide them from myself for a month.
Hopefully this weekend we are booking a holiday, dh wants to go but struggles to make decisions and look at screens so I need to just bulldoze through his indecision.

AllTheExtraClouds · 05/03/2023 06:32

We're a bit like that with holidays. Are you hoping to stay in UK or go abroad? We're away for a few days in May, but only 4 hours by car up M6.
Saw some very cute Easter chocolate things in M&S yesterday. Chocolate dinosaurs for example.

SpringLobelia · 05/03/2023 07:12

Snap on the holidays!

I usually book but this year am tired of the mental load of trying to deal with varying requirements so have asked DH to book. Not least because it is a trip HE really wants to go on and his requirements that are tricky!!

Yesterday I got frustrated of the indecision so bullet pointed all his requirements and sent them to him in an e-mail as a reminder. Grin

I spent a bit of time looking at the Scottish Isles on the map though as this is a place I would dearly love to visit. Made me think of our own @FatSealSmugSoup . Hope you are okay our friend.

Good day yesterday. Did a test for DS1 where he had to go home from town on the bus by himself. He finds these things really difficult and challenging so it was definitely outside his comfort zone!! It went really well.

We have visitors soon so I need to sort out the junk room/dumping ground of extra stuff room/ guest room. I have new curtains and bedding for it.

petalpower · 06/03/2023 10:03

Hello all - still here just been busy with things and haven’t got round to posting. My dad and stepmother are here staying for a few days so have been doing lots of cooking etc.
Making progress with jobs. Have put a few more things on eBay and have more to list today. Clothes that suited my old working life rather than the one I have now.
I thought of you the other day @AllTheExtraClouds . I took my dad, stepmother and aunt out to a local pub for lunch. One with advanced dementia, another with early stages of it and the other on a walking frame. DH came too but travelled separately and made a guest appearance once I’d done all the complicated logistical stuff of getting everyone in and out of the car and sat down in the pub! It was because he was popping out in his lunch break from work but he managed to avoid all the tricky things! It felt like the puzzle with the fox, the chicken and the sack of corn crossing the river.
Have a good day everyone.

SpiritOfEdna · 06/03/2023 15:06

hello all; that sounds a complicated dance to get everyone seated and comfortable @petalpower

I am loads better and am whipping around doing loads of tasks today. The Niece came around yesterday and we had an art afternoon: still have to put all the stuff away. She loved her days out with 'the mates' and is loving the independence. I have had to consciously stop telling her when she can get out of my car and when it is safe to cross the road, she is used to 'big' roads now!!!! I also have got to plan for a work trip to Slovakia in a couple of months. That might be hard going as I don't have a valid passport and three cold sores on my mouth - haven't had a cold sore for years but was feeling very run down last week. I don't want that to be my passport picture for the next ten years :-)

  • clean muddy boots after being in the park today with dog
  • clear away art stuff
  • find old passport
  • get gym stuff ready for tomorrow
  • tidy clothes off day bed
  • organise for a repair on the top oven. The heating element is 'drooping'

Have a good day all, what is left of it :-)

SoE

Morning all! We have glorious sunshine here today, I'm sat in my home office (previously the spare room!) wishing I was outside.
Holiday provisionally sorted, we're going all out on a holiday of a lifetime thing. The cost is making dh nervous and probably the idea of flying with us all!
Today I have book club, didn't finish the book as it was unpleasant.

SnowAndIceLobelia · 07/03/2023 09:53

ooh I am interested in the book @RunningKatie . Even if unpleasant so I know to avoid it. I am choosing for our next book club.

We have had a bad run on books lately. Martin AMis' London Fields was a low point.

Congrats on the holiday!

Not alot going on here. We are about to put some pictures up.

RunningKatie · 07/03/2023 10:00

I've just read How to Kill Your Family @SnowAndIceLobelia and it was very dark but funny. Also finally finished A Man Called Ove, which is now a film. I started it 2 years ago and it didn't click but tried again and it's a good read.

SnowAndIceLobelia · 07/03/2023 14:17

Thanks @RunningKatie ! I might suggest a Man Called Ove. I had wanted to see the film also so might suggest a bookclub outing!

I spent a couple of hours on DS1s bedroom today. Moving the bed, vacuuming everything, touching up the paint, clearing toys, rearranging books and fairy lights, and working out with DH where to put the pictures. I feel a sense of accomplishment, but the rest of the house looks like a bomb has hit it!

Hope your bookclub goes well.

Hope everyone is fine!

SpiritOfEdna · 08/03/2023 11:47

Morning
Am on a roll after being droopy with that cold.

  • Am attacking cleaning the cooker today as we have an engineer booked to come and replace/fix the droopy grill element AND put a light in. Oh my days, I will be able to see how things are cooking and not burn my hand every time I go in there.
  • Been slogging away since 6am this morning prepping presentations due today - but all done now and I can get on with chores.
  • Need to clean my paint brushes - the horror of not doing them when we finished on Sunday. Found some paint cleaner will looking for Mr Muscle.
  • Need to do Day Three of 365 days of painting. Today is a tree :-)
  • Asparagus plant is looking distinctly brown - need to research if I can rescue it. Ah just looked and it is not being watered enough. OK, that job is done.
  • Move the toy car from hall into living room to give us some space - Done. The car is a gift from my sibling to another great niece for her birthday. Not sure how well it will go down it is HUGE.
  • Print off and sign documents for accountant.
  • Try on my work clothes for business trip in May :-) I do not want to buy any clothes; and it will definitely be on the side of more formal wear :-( At least it has given me motivation to stick to the diet!
  • If I get the chance, get the trellises down from the yard so we can spruce up the fencing - supposed to do last weekend but it got missed.

That's it for now, need to give the dog a quick walk,
Have a good day all
SoE

petalpower · 08/03/2023 12:39

Oh my word @SpiritOfEdna your lists make me tired just reading them!

RunningKatie · 08/03/2023 13:01

Snow coming down here, not settling yet but sledges have been unearthed, just in case!
I saw schools are closed on Shetland, hope @FatSealSmugSoup is wrapped up warm for a bit of hibernation.

SpiritOfEdna · 08/03/2023 13:41

@petalpower I like to think my 15 minute tasks me look like Superwoman :-)

We have tiny dots of snow; they are melting before they even touch the ground.

SpiritOfEdna · 08/03/2023 13:41

make me look like Superwoman*

petalpower · 08/03/2023 16:48

We had snow yesterday morning but only sleet today. Very cold out there too.
Poor care auntie has Covid, hoping I don’t pick it up from her as I’m still visiting (and obviously testing before going and wearing PPE). Today I’ve chased up some paperwork for her regarding her funded nursing care assessment and had an interview with a CQC person as there’s a care home inspection going on. Had a lovely lunch with friends and met another friend for a dog walk. Managed to sell two items that I’d listed on eBay. Took one to the post office this morning. Need to make another trip tomorrow as the second person hadn’t paid!
Anyone still making smug soup? This week I’ve managed leek and potato and parsnip, apple and red lentil - both yummy.

Aria999 · 08/03/2023 17:16

Ooh where are you going @RunningKatie ? Hope it works out well!

RunningKatie · 09/03/2023 16:34

We are off to see Santa @Aria999 - I've always wanted to go and decided that as the dc are getting older then we need to bite the bullet and just go for it. I really hope we can see the Northern Lights too, that'd be 2 things off my bucket list!
We're in the Amber zone for snow today, one school closed, one school open. Good job dh didn't mow the lawn yesterday!

petalpower · 09/03/2023 17:18

It’s very quiet around these parts. I hope everyone’s ok. Haven’t seen @FatSealSmugSoup for quite a while.

SpiritOfEdna · 10/03/2023 13:26

hello; very busy day here work and task wise; was up at the crack of dawn to get a gym session in only to have to dig the car out. I did have an inkling at 4am that might be the case when the dog wanted to go out for a wee ! It's all melted here now though am hoping we are done with it.

Jobs for the day:

  • doggo to groomers - DONE. She will be trying to get under the duvet tonight she is so shorn - but all the horrid matts have gone so she must be more comfortable. She is snoozing next to me.
  • shove a load of bedding in the machine
  • next 15 minute art lesson. Today I will be drawing leaves :-)
  • wrap the humungous car up for the birthday girl
  • try and sneak out all of the dog's chewed up mangled toys :-)
  • an afternoon of meetings and then I am freeeeeee
@FatSealSmugSoup hope all is OK, and you are warm and cosy indoors.

Have a good day

SoE

RunningKatie · 10/03/2023 14:06

I misread that initially @SpiritOfEdna and thought you'd had to dig the cat out.
Schools closed here, I am wfh'ing as well as making suggestions to ease the apparent boredom!
Roll on 4pm, I might need a warming mulled wine later.
Have a lovely weekend all!

SnowAndIceLobelia · 10/03/2023 14:13

Oh we went to Lapland a few years back @RunningKatie ! It was magical. I hope you all have a wonderful time.

@petalpower hope your aunt is okay with covid.

I made smug soup yesterday...... chicken and noodle soup but I used chicken mince to make meatballs instead of diced chicken- just for a change. It was a bit ordinary tbh.

Jealous of your snow @SpiritOfEdna . Nothing here despite promises [shakes fist at the sky]. I love snow!

Hope everyone is well.

petalpower · 10/03/2023 18:01

Thank you @SnowAndIceLobelia . My auntie was really quite unwell at the beginning of the week but when I visited yesterday she was being grumpy with the carers and rolling her eyes again so she must be on the mend!
I’ve now sold two dresses and two tops on eBay which I’m pleased about. Only £37 in total but that’s still £37 I didn’t have before and hopefully the clothes will be worn and appreciated rather than hanging in my wardrobe unworn.
Mulled wine sounds like just the thing for today @RunningKatie . We had more snow again here today but it’s all melted again. Just enough to be annoying whilst I was out in the car earlier.
You always sound so busy and as though you achieve so much @SpiritOfEdna . You truly are superwoman!

Aria999 · 10/03/2023 23:25

Strange hearing about all the snow, it is 30 c where we are! (Florida, flying home tomorrow)

AllTheExtraClouds · 11/03/2023 06:01

Morning! Have been lurking but run out of steam to post. We had brief snow but mainly just cold rain and so been dealing with lots of mud. I'm so glad auntie's on the mend @petalpower
I'm listening to birdsong and it's not 6am yet! Clocks change in two weeks though i think. That always feels harsh despite being an early riser.
I have been reasonably productive this week and I've found brain space to do some journal type writing and puzzles which pleases me. And reading proper books.
Today's task is to move a bookcase upstairs to where I have cleared a space.
Have a lovely weekend everyone 💕
