Haven't been posting here of late, but have been lurking and feeling inspired (pressured) to get back to the tough jobs. Bought a steam mop a few weeks ago and steam cleaned part of the dishwasher door, the kitchen floor, and the kitchen ceiling; a couple of cabinet doors and one wall tonight. Also steam cleaned one couch and an area rug after vacuuming. Then, cleaned the bathroom and mentally planned out steps to repaint/touch-up the paint. Dinner was salmon, wild and brown rice and roasted asparagus and cauliflower followed by a good amount of chocolate with hazelnuts. The cleaning was done after dinner and took only about an hour and a half, but it was after 10pm when I was done. I'm pleased to have done it, though.

RunningKatie · 11/03/2023 09:16

We had an impromptu sleepover last night, they took over the living room so I retreated to the kitchen. Got a load of paperwork sorted, all ironing done, tidied some cupboards and generally did small but annoying jobs. Super productive!
Obviously I'm making up for it now by sitting down with a coffee, off to the library in a bit. Very icy here, I'm not a fan of driving in wintery conditions.

SnowAndIceLobelia · 11/03/2023 09:21

Morning all!

Hope everyone has a lovely day.

I have the patio cleaners and hedge trimmers here this morning. They were so kind to schedule me in on a Saturday as they are so busy. They are scheduled to be here for 4 hours so I am hoping that this makes everything sparkling and shiny and neat and amazing. How much i love achieving things by paying other people to do it for me. Grin

Lovely to see you @Mumtobabyhavoc ... your meal last night sounds glorious!

Thanks and Thanks to everyone on this thread.

petalpower · 11/03/2023 10:59

Lovely to see people popping by again on this thread! I’ve gone some smug soup on the go and have been doing a few small jobs including taking an old bbq down to the village where they’ve got a scrap metal skip this weekend to raise funds (can’t remember what for though!). The sun is shining so I’ve got the washing out on the line even though it’s pretty cold.
Have a lovely day everyone!

RunningKatie · 12/03/2023 14:48

Dd and I have been book shopping. She has a massive stack of books to read now.
I'm just sitting thinking about what needs to be done, got 2 days annual leave this week so planning a charity shop drop as well as a deep clean of the living room.
All the snow has nearly disappeared, it tried to snow last night but didn't last long. Happy weekend all!

mum2jakie · 12/03/2023 14:52

@Mumtobabyhavoc can I ask which steam cleaner you bought?

petalpower · 12/03/2023 15:12

I’ve been inspired by the decluttering threads (but am obviously going to defect from our lovely group) and have started to get rid of at least one item each day. Today I’ve put a top out ready for rag recycling as it’s developed holes on the cuffs, added a cardigan to the charity shop pile (it’s gone a bit of a funny colour from being in the wash) and sorted out the spare cables from changing our broadband.

petalpower · 12/03/2023 21:28

Obviously NOT going to defect from our group (should read my posts more carefully)!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 14/03/2023 04:11

mum2jakie · 12/03/2023 14:52

@Mumtobabyhavoc can I ask which steam cleaner you bought?

Bissell;. Model 2075a.
Works well. I wrote a thorough review on Amazon. 🤓AMA. 😂

Bleached the floor tile grout in the bathroom around the toilet area this morning and washed the floor; threw in a load of laundry and put away the load that had been hung to dry; and cleaned glass dining table and the inside and outside of one half of the patio door (the half with Havoc's finger marks!) and wiped the railing... all while Havoc was eating breakfast sitting in the high-chair. I've discovered I can get quite a lot done this way!!!! I'm forced to work fast. .... 💡⏲️

Mumtobabyhavoc · 14/03/2023 04:28

@mum2jakie the 2234n is the same model, btw. I just checked it out. I bought mine on a different country's site.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 14/03/2023 04:34

@SnowAndIceLobelia Hello, back ro tou. 😊
I tend to feel quite smug when a home-cooked meal turns out! Salmon is one of my go-to's. I'm currently trying to master home-made pizza. I think I finally figured out how to get the dough the way I like it; and now I just need to figure out the right balance and amount of toppings... it's a gluttonous work in progress😂😋

petalpower · 14/03/2023 10:18

Yesterday’s throw outs were a pair of gardening gloves that were full of holes, two tops sold on eBay and posted and a bag of old cables and discs. This morning I’ve thrown out a bag of Christmas cards from a couple of years ago (don’t know why I was keeping them) and added a book and pair of gloves to the charity shop bag. Finally stuck the wi-fi code sticker that came with the new router onto a piece of card and blue tacked it to the inside of a kitchen cupboard. I’ve been looking at the sticker for about a month.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 14/03/2023 12:58

@petalpower sounds like you're on a roll! 😊

Havoc was awake at 4:30am. Uhhhhh. So.
Folded and put away clothes; dishwasher on; load of laundry in; warm milk for Havoc and a cocoa (and slice of choc chip banana bread) for me. Now almost 6:00am, watching tv news, scrolling MN and Havoc asleep on my lap. 😇

SnowAndIceLobelia · 15/03/2023 06:59

Morning all!

Sorry, have had a very busy week so far so have not been online much. Medical appointments for DS1; Dentist appointments; a training course for me. Plus trying to get the house ready as we have guests soon.

DH put up a massive picture yesterday in the sitting room. A painting he inherited some years ago. It takes up way too much of the wall and is too low down. So large he had to fix a bolt into the wall instead of a regular picture hook. Took him hours to sort out poor thing. And it is too low! he asked me what I thought and I said we should live with it for 24 hours then decide. last night we were musing and decided it has to be changed so he is doing that today and I hope it does not frustrate him as much as it did because it was a pretty big task. It will look good when he is done I hope. He has wanted it to be up for ages.

Lazy start this morning as we are off to the paediatrician at 10 then school after that.

Hope everyone has a very good day!

RunningKatie · 15/03/2023 09:00

Morning all!
I have coffee, we have wintery blue skies and I'm in only human in the house. Bliss! Sadly am wfh, so need to get on, then 2 days of annual leave. Can't wait! Got so much to do as usual but am hoping to go to a garden centre or coffee shop as well.

petalpower · 15/03/2023 11:39

The picture situation sounds like a bit of a nightmare @SnowAndIceLobelia . Just when you think a job’s done!
Enjoy a bit of peace and quiet even if you are working from home @RunningKatie . Enjoy your days off!
My decluttered items for today are 6 bras packaged to send to small for all - I stupidly took all the labels off because they’re my usual size and fit from M and S but just made me a strange shape. Also thrown out some old make up and put the make up bag to wash and then send to the charity shop. My lovely friend who works at a charity shop visited yesterday and took back a bag with 6 donations in it.

SpiritOfEdna · 15/03/2023 13:48

everyone is flying through their tasks!

I have a set of random tasks today - as we have decided to put write out everything that needs doing and put them in a bowl and then pull out 3 a day. So I have to:

  • clean out one cupboard in the kitchen - half done
  • take out recycling - done
  • hoover the sofa and rug

Other stuff I have to do today

  • day ten of 365 days of drawing - already done I had to write one word of how I wanted my year to look : very easy
  • make an appointment at the vets for the dog.
  • clean my very muddy boots from walking the dog - highly recommend Boot Buddy for cleaning muddy boots
  • put my bed back in it's place - it was pulled out so the windows could be measured for shutters
  • work out the fastest way to renew my passport and get on with it
  • confirm with paving guy times for next bit of work
  • chase the oven repair guy
  • get gym kit ready for tomorrow

That may have to be it - they all may be done in a mad hour when I finish work today and I also have to cook tea from scratch tonight. Might have to work from the kitchen today :-) Got 10 mins before next meeting so can get everything out now.

Have a good day all

SoE

Peridot1 · 16/03/2023 08:39

Hello all!

I arrived back from my month in Australia yesterday. Had a lovely time and managed to not spend what sometimes seems like all my time on MN. Hence not posting on the thread for a while. Glad you are all still here plodding along at your many chores. I see @FatSealSmugSoup hasnt been around for a while - hope she is ok.

My main task today is to unpack and do my washing. Put the suitcases back upstairs.

SpiritOfEdna · 16/03/2023 14:10

Hello @Peridot1 welcome back, hope you had a brilliant time. You've missed all the snow :-)

The dog has got a mood on because the Niece has been here and gone out with sibling without her.

Still waiting to find out if work trip to Slovakia is going ahead.

I managed to complete all my tasks yesterday in one crazy hour.

My (random) tasks for today are:

  • Clean all the photograph frames
  • Clean window sills in living room and kitchen
  • Clean the bin when it is empty.

Other jobs for today:

  • Clear the day bed of clothes - it's one step up from a floor-drobe currently
  • Day 11 of 365 days of drawing. I have to do a blind drawing.
  • Research replacement radiators for hall/living room

That's enough for today, the music will be going on as I dash around.

Have a good day all

SoE

RunningKatie · 16/03/2023 14:56

Afternoon all, just making a dessert to welcome dc2 home from school, dc1 off with the strikes so that news bombed as expected.
Have moved money about today, done a food shop and helped dc1 with homework. I thought I'd get more done, as usual my plans were super optimistic.

petalpower · 16/03/2023 15:43

Inspired by you yesterday @SpiritOfEdna I checked the dates that mine and DD’s passports expire (June and July), then researched the cheapest way to renew them and how to do the photos electronically.
Welcome back @Peridot1 ! Hope you had a lovely time and aren’t too jet lagged.
Mmm, dessert you say @RunningKatie ? What did you make?
Today’s achievements have included decluttering a fake joke dog poo (don’t ask), choosing 3 more things to put on eBay and dropping off an old landline phone and some cables at the small electrical recycling point on my way to a friend’s for lunch.

SpiritOfEdna · 17/03/2023 14:14

@petalpower I need to find somewhere that recycles cables ! Which has also reminded me: I worked from home during lockdown and was distributing cables from home at one point. I still have a sodding box of them in a cupboard and I need the space. This was 2 years ago! When I left my manager was like, yeah I'll get them picked up tomorrow by courrier for you. As with everything he promised it didn't happen. I am going to box them up and send them back. Or box them up and tell him to send a courrier to pick them up once and for all.

My '3 tasks from the hippo' today are:

  • tidy one kitchen cupboard
  • tidy one kitchen cupboard
  • tidy one kitchen cupboard.

I'll be in the kitchen later then!

Other tasks:

  • get my passport photo done tomorrow - looks like work trip has almost been signed off. One more approval needed; so need to act quick. It's so expensive to get a passport renewed quickly! (I'll need to get my eyebrows done - can't have Denis Healey's for the next 10 years on my passport photo :-))
  • get a quote for yesterday's researched radiators
  • work out why my printer isn't printing
  • day 12 - today's task is repeating a pattern using different media - crayons/paints/inks/watercolour
  • find a book to read because once I finish my tasks today I am done.

It'll be another mad hour later

have a good day all

SoE

petalpower · 17/03/2023 14:25

I hear that the passport office staff are going on strike for 5 weeks @SpiritOfEdna so don’t delay getting your passport renewed.
Today I’ve used a nice box I’d kept from Christmas to store my special cards that I keep and threw out a couple of plastic bags they’d previously been in. Went to the post office and sent two parcels - the bras to Smalls for All and a book I sold on eBay last night. Have have also thrown out a pile of old magazines and put my old dead kindle in the small recycling pile for the next time I go near one. DD is back from uni tonight so I’ve filled her car up with petrol and made sure her room is ready.

Aria999 · 17/03/2023 15:26

Today I am trying to make progress with my online vba course.

It's helpful but also quite boring as I am actually very good at vba but self taught so I needed to fill in some fundamental principles.

petalpower · 17/03/2023 17:16

I had to look up what vba is @Aria999 . Very impressive!
