We're trapped in the house!

A hedge has fallen in front of the gate and we cannot get out of the front garden. And Amazon cannot get in to deliver the chain saw we ordered a couple of days ago when we noticed the hedge was starting to look a bit out of control and the branches were too thick for the hedge trimmer.

I'm thinking if we use the hedge trimmer on the smaller branches and try a normal saw on the thicker branches we might be able to get it small enough to climb over/through but we cannot start until it is light and it doesn't get light until after DD leaves for school.

I can't tell the school the truth can I? They won't believe DD cannot get to school because she can't get out of the front garden, will they?

Come on, plenty of gardens don't have side or rear access. Especially if you're mid terrace.

Cheeeseontoasts · 15/01/2023 22:08

I’d be more worried about how to get out in the event of a fire, rather than worrying about school. Can you really not get out of the back?

RagzRebooted · 15/01/2023 22:08

Can you pass her over the hedge to a friend? Take a photo, then school will believe you. Will also provide some light comical relief!
Sorry, I'm sure it's not funny when it's you.

VeniVidiWeeWee · 15/01/2023 22:08

Photo, or it didn't happen.

AnyFucker · 15/01/2023 22:09

Give over

MilkshakesBringAllTheCoosToTheYard · 15/01/2023 22:10

I mean, I am shamelessly placemarking here.

Can't you get over the fence and go out next door?

Frumpymumma · 15/01/2023 22:10

Take a pic as evidence for the school
Our back garden also doesn't have an exit
Call a tree surgeon

BIWI · 15/01/2023 22:10

Is there a big bison in your garden?

whataboutsecondbreakfast · 15/01/2023 22:10

Don't you have a back door? A window to climb out of? A stool you can use?

Beginningless · 15/01/2023 22:11

Random thread of the day.

Frumpymumma · 15/01/2023 22:11

Or if was our local area. Im sure if we posted on fb a few people would come help.

Belle89 · 15/01/2023 22:11

Climb over it?

Frequency · 15/01/2023 22:12

Our back is surrounded by gardens. We're at the end of a cul de sac. In the event of a fire we could get far enough away from the house as the back garden is quite big but we can't get out of the back garden.

DD is taller than me, so is the hedge, so I cannot pass her over it. The front fence is lined with rose bushes so we can't climb that. I mean, I suppose we could climb over the rose bushes if we really needed to in a life or death situation but I'm not going to ask DD to climb through thorny rose bushes for the sake of one morning at school.

How high is this hedge. Your boundaries found like fort knox. Is any of your boundary fenced, you could take a pannel out...

IveForgottenAgainFFS · 15/01/2023 22:14

I couldn't go to work one day because my front door fell off as I closed it.

They believed me because who could possibly make that up?!

margegunderson · 15/01/2023 22:14

Blankets over the rose bushes and off she does

onanotherday · 15/01/2023 22:14

Fire brigade?

Frequency · 15/01/2023 22:14

The gate is behind the red circle.

Duvet over the roses and crampons and an ice pick and you'll be fine.

Mamamia7962 · 15/01/2023 22:15

Do you mean a bush rather than a hedge? Hedges are long so they don't tend to fall over do they?

Leadbypencils · 15/01/2023 22:16

What's that gap on the left of the pic, I can see iron railings, so if I can see them you can get over them.

parietal · 15/01/2023 22:16

do you have a big ladder? lay it flat over the hedge and walk along the rungs (flat)

IveForgottenAgainFFS · 15/01/2023 22:17

Just tell school she'll be in as soon as you can make a gap through it, an hour after sunrise surely?

If you don't have suitable tools you'll need to appeal for help on FB or call the fire brigade.

Unfairestofthemall · 15/01/2023 22:17

Do you have a neighbour you can borrow a chainsaw from? Then you can hack away at it tomorrow? One day off school isn't going to do much damage if you genuinely can't get out.
