We're trapped in the house!

A hedge has fallen in front of the gate and we cannot get out of the front garden. And Amazon cannot get in to deliver the chain saw we ordered a couple of days ago when we noticed the hedge was starting to look a bit out of control and the branches were too thick for the hedge trimmer.

I'm thinking if we use the hedge trimmer on the smaller branches and try a normal saw on the thicker branches we might be able to get it small enough to climb over/through but we cannot start until it is light and it doesn't get light until after DD leaves for school.

I can't tell the school the truth can I? They won't believe DD cannot get to school because she can't get out of the front garden, will they?

Just wondering why you let it get so overgrown in the 1st place?

Charmian1957 · 17/01/2023 21:03

I hope the problem has been sorted out now. As for school, they can not hold you responsible, surely? I would not expect any child of mine to fight throgh a liad of hedge and rose bushes with thorns to get to school. And if the school does, that is ridicolus. As I say hope sorted now.

@browneyes77 have to agree,

Wow.

Read some and then gave up.

But, it took me back, I'm sure it's in classics, plate down back of loo. Made me think of that, until the nasty comments started

Toomuchtrouble4me · 17/01/2023 21:38

It’s ludicrous! The vitriol being thrown at the OP, for a simple post about a tree coming down and blocking her in.

And we’re not even in the AIBU section! 😂

Tessabelle74 · 17/01/2023 22:09

Sleeping Beauty, is that you? Where's Prince Charming when you need him?

AdoraBell · 17/01/2023 22:10

Glad you’ve managed to fight your way through OP

Why would the school not believe you if you phoned to tell them what had happened?

Why are you suggesting this?

Frequency · 18/01/2023 07:14

People are still getting all hot and bothered over this?! It was a tree. It fell over in the wind blocking our only exit. I cut it down with a handsaw. Problem solved. Everyone lived.

And might I suggest some of start smoking what @Wellwell82 thought I was smoking? Because honestly, y'all need to chill. All this stress over a stranger's fallen tree is not good for you.

You need to order two trampolines. Have them delivered next door. (Door dash or Uber) then next door passes one over to you. And they keep one on their side. You then bounce over the fence. Safe and fun. And healthy. And good for bonding with the neighbours.

Totally underappreciated post 😂

@Frequency ·

But you are being too blase about this, Madam!

Most Mumsnetters would rather wear Hotter shoes (and there is real hatred for them!) than neglect their/neighbours/Mr Jones down the road's bush! To even think of such a thing! They are now all in a darkened room, their pearls crushed not clutched.

I hope you have learnt your lesson now and keep everyone's bush in tip top condition.

Shocking! Just Shocking!

Firstly, I can't believe how many nasty sounding comments appear every time someone posts about a problem they're facing.

Secondly, we'd also be trapped if something like that was across our gate. We have no back door, we have access right round the house but our house has a full hedge down one side - and on the other side of that hedge is a tall fence. That's the street side. Then we have the front, which we are imagining is blocked. The other 2 sides have high walls, too high to climb. I can think of at least 2 other gardens in my family where they'd be trapped if the front access was blocked. Not everyone has a back gate and low fences/hedges at the sides, and neighbours on each side.

kittensinthekitchen · 18/01/2023 09:17

@Frequency

I'm not sure how you paid for the chainsaw, but if applicable I suggest you cancel the cheque Wink

You're right, of course. I shall go outside immediately and find a suitable bush branch to whip myself with until I understand the severity of my inaction regarding everyone's bushes.

SallyB392 · 18/01/2023 10:35

A fence / bush doesn't trap you in overnight. If you dont want to take your children to school consider home schooling.

LemonSwan · 18/01/2023 10:49

In most of those circumstances if acting in a professional capacity I would ring a tree surgeon. When trees fall like this they can lift the ground and other trees around can be affected. I can probably take a good guess what’s ok and what not by just jumping on the surrounding ground and checking for springy but I am not having liability of that on my head 🤣

LemonSwan · 18/01/2023 10:50

Above was to @backinthebox 😊
