What would your career be if money were no object?

Inspiredby a colleague who has suddenly quit work to open up a life coaching/counselling business. I have a feeling, not sure why, that she won a not insignificant lottery amount. If you could do anything you wanted without worrying about money now or in the future, what would you do as your job?

Realistically, I'd probably not work at all and would be quite happy.

However, as that doesn't answer my own question 🤣 I will say I'd open up a wool shop or something and hire people to run crafty classes. I wouldn't want to run them myself though. Although, I don't want to deal with people at all somedays so maybe a shop isn't a good idea...

I'd study for my PhD in History & then do another degree about English language (origins etc a La Suzi Dent) so I guess I'd be an eternal student with a lot of travelling thrown in!

I would buy into an existing small game development team who needed funding and in exchange they would take me on as an 3d artist which would give me the opportunity to train and gain experience in that work. I'm in an adjacent field now which uses the same skills but lack the experience in the field I really want. Eventually I would get bigger jobs for bigger companies, there is demand where I am currently.

Ylvamoon · 21/12/2022 08:17

Do / run a research trp company in Central & South America! Obviously I'd have to come along...

PureBlackVoid · 21/12/2022 08:18

A cat helper (not really sure of the actual job title) at a rescue.

I’d also pay to learn all aspects of building trade, and general making of stuff so I could be my own builder and clothes/home furnishings maker.

Blowyourowntrumpet · 21/12/2022 08:19

Beachcomber or cat rescuer

SilentShite · 21/12/2022 08:20

Pottering about in the (my own) garden.

Is that a career? Xmas Grin

Iamnotausername · 21/12/2022 08:58

Oh yes! Some sort of animal care thing. I'd vet the animals before hand to make sure they were well behaved though!

Animal care for sure, with a focus on cat rescue and socialisation of feral/timid cats. I am halfway there, I work part-time for a cattery/boarding kennel that also homes/looks after rescue cats. It's wonderful but sometimes sad.

I am lucky financially that I can do this.

Whatthediddlyfeck · 21/12/2022 09:05

I’d be retired Grin

Everydaywheniwakeup · 21/12/2022 09:07

I'd own a bookshop. My cats would wander around and people would sit for hours drinking tea and reading.

ThisSolstice · 21/12/2022 09:11

What I do, writing novels, but without so much of the university teaching gig that I need to help pay the bills.

OneWildNightWithJBJ · 21/12/2022 09:14

There’s so many things I still want to be, but I’d narrow it down to full-time artist/photographer (already do this is a sideline), art therapist or children’s bookshop owner.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 21/12/2022 09:27

I’m not sure what my job title would be but I’d train my dog (and a could more) up as therapy dogs and delivery dog therapy and/or I’d open a nursery especially for children with SEND.

BamBamBilla · 21/12/2022 09:44

Bookshop owner. I'd sit and read books all day, dust a few shelves and talk to people about books all day.

Scottishflower65 · 21/12/2022 09:47

Part time yoga teacher.

JockTamsonsBairns · 21/12/2022 09:47

I would own a second hand bookshop by the Northumberland coast. Dusty and old, with rare copies of out of print books.

It would have a decked balcony overlooking the sea, where I'd sit in my rocking chair with a knitted blanket over my lap and my beloved dog laying at my feet.

JockTamsonsBairns · 21/12/2022 09:48

@BamBamBilla shall we start a business together? 😂

BoringLittleMe · 21/12/2022 09:48

Wannabe author. I'd love to have the time to try and finish my screenplay without worrying about when to fit it in around work!

FusionChefGeoff · 21/12/2022 09:49

I'd love to be a TA in reception

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 21/12/2022 09:52

I'd be a landscape photographer, and run a cafe/gallery/ shop to showcase and sell my work, and that of other independent artists/artisans. I'd sell locally produced food as well. It would be largely veggie, but I'd consider humanely, locally reared meat.

IglesiasPiggl · 21/12/2022 09:53

I would set up and run a second hand book and magazine exchange, with a little coffee shop and a resident cat.

Libre2 · 21/12/2022 09:53

Zoo keeper

ClaribelLowLieth · 21/12/2022 09:54

I would train in a endangered craft.

While also leaving time for my allotment and painting.
