What would your career be if money were no object?

Inspiredby a colleague who has suddenly quit work to open up a life coaching/counselling business. I have a feeling, not sure why, that she won a not insignificant lottery amount. If you could do anything you wanted without worrying about money now or in the future, what would you do as your job?

Realistically, I'd probably not work at all and would be quite happy.

However, as that doesn't answer my own question 🤣 I will say I'd open up a wool shop or something and hire people to run crafty classes. I wouldn't want to run them myself though. Although, I don't want to deal with people at all somedays so maybe a shop isn't a good idea...

Back to working with horses and take my dogs with me.

I love being out in the fresh air, even if its peeing down with rain or minus figures.

Small holding with goats, in a cottage overlooking the Atlantic Ocean in the Scottish Highlands. I would be a lighthouse keeper for my main job.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 21/12/2022 15:05

I'd have a small holding, and run various things out of it - second hand books, tea shop, farm produce. All at pennies/ employing local people etc.

It would back onto a large outward bound centre my dh would run.

I would illustrate books on plants for the Royal botanical gardens in Edinburgh. They have a course which looks amazing.

I'd love to own a yarn shop, my husband wants to run a coffee shop so I think we'd combine the two! Coffee, cake and classes.

Thelnebriati · 21/12/2022 15:13

I can't make my mind up between running a micro brewery or a smallholding.

RovenderKitt · 21/12/2022 15:15

Landscape painter and photographer. Maybe make a few ceramics.

harktheherold · 21/12/2022 15:16

Art restorer. Or bookbinder

Zippedydoo123 · 21/12/2022 15:16

Swift retirement. Followed by one morning a week charity shop.

CoQ10 · 21/12/2022 15:17

I would do nothing for a year, get my house sorted and my health tip top then I'd take time to find something to keep me busy, healthy and meeting interesting people.

Natfrances · 21/12/2022 15:28

Something with rescuing animals or taking in stray cats

VioletLemon · 21/12/2022 15:34

Bookshop owner near a port with a small affordable wine bar serving cheap tapas.

imnotthatkindofmum · 21/12/2022 17:53

Furniture restoration or maybe open a craft shop.

ChristmasSparkleTastic · 21/12/2022 17:55

Wildlife photographer

Itstoocoldoutthere · 21/12/2022 18:11

I'm another who would like a smallholding or something to do with horses.

I am also quite tempted by the idea of running a bookshop - I would love to be able to browse books all day but wonder if the novelty would wear off quickly.

DandelionPockets · 21/12/2022 18:23

I'd love to run a small campsite in the middle of one of the national parks and have a couple of dogs that can be with me all day at work.

pastypirate · 21/12/2022 18:25

Manage a charity shop

RandomUsernameHere · 21/12/2022 18:34

Running coach/personal trainer. Or just anything to do with running.

yubgummy · 21/12/2022 18:47

Full-time local councillor, a long-term one who all the local residents knew well, or maybe a vicar for similar reasons. People would come up to me in the supermarket and share their problems and I would smile beatifically down at them and say there now, we'll get this fixed up for you, what seems to be the trouble?

I would live in a rambling cottage with direct access to countryside walks, and I would have a library full of local history books. I might be a local historian/genealogist as a sideline. I would have a lot of warm woollen jumpers.

I'm a bit of a busybody :)

emmathedilemma · 21/12/2022 18:51

Gym class instructor/ personal trainer

Hawkins001 · 22/12/2022 09:43

selling magic card game cards on eBay, they are similar to Pokemon, as I play the game too, I'd be intrigued to see how the sales went, then I'd consider trying investing in the stock markets.

Yesiamtiredactually · 22/12/2022 10:02

Oh a tattoo artist/corporate lawyer! Id love to be able to afford and have the time to do something so fun and edgy as tattoo people but also keep my grown up brain switched on by having companies pay me to tell them they can’t do things 🤣🤣

I had considered law, due to tv series, but then reconsidered to investment banker,.Or day trader ect

Yesiamtiredactually · 23/12/2022 08:03

Was the TV series Ally McBeal?! I’m actually about to study law part time as redundancy forced a major career rethink!

JeezLouiseErrrr · 23/12/2022 08:07

I don't think I would bother with a career. I work to live don't live to work.
