What would your career be if money were no object?

Inspiredby a colleague who has suddenly quit work to open up a life coaching/counselling business. I have a feeling, not sure why, that she won a not insignificant lottery amount. If you could do anything you wanted without worrying about money now or in the future, what would you do as your job?

Realistically, I'd probably not work at all and would be quite happy.

However, as that doesn't answer my own question 🤣 I will say I'd open up a wool shop or something and hire people to run crafty classes. I wouldn't want to run them myself though. Although, I don't want to deal with people at all somedays so maybe a shop isn't a good idea...

something to do with horses, probably a rescue

Antique and secondhand jewellery shop owner

I’d be a tour guide taking people round somewhere like pompei or the pyramids. Somewhere hot and historically interesting.

Dayil · 21/12/2022 11:03

I’d be a swanky hotel inspector I love staying in swanky hotels!

Bobshhh · 21/12/2022 11:04

Paramedic

And live in a big country pile where I could have space to rescue horses dogs and cats.

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 21/12/2022 11:05

Assistant at a cattery. Wouldn't want the responsibility of managing it, just want to spend everyday in the company of cats 😻

Battlecat98 · 21/12/2022 11:06

Cat hotel and cafe 🐱.

hentheeighth · 21/12/2022 11:06

Glad you asked OP. I've thought about this extensively and would open a cheese shop, maybe with an adjoining cafe, a rotating selection of international wines, condiments and crackers. Can you tell I love cheese! Like others though if money were infinite would definitely not be running it myself.

I am fascinated though by @C1N1C , who is 90% David Attenborough! Please explain, that sounds amazing...

MagpiePi · 21/12/2022 11:07

Beach towel tester

Pointless2 · 21/12/2022 11:08

Counselling / writing / photography / translating / playing music.

GinUnicorn · 21/12/2022 11:09

Something to do with music. I’d love to have the time to do more music but with two small children to feed it’s hard.

55christmasmagic · 21/12/2022 11:10

Run a wedding dress shop 😍

Yayyayitsaholiholiday · 21/12/2022 11:17

What I’m doing now - a little home-from-home dog boarding business.
I only take small and medium sized dogs and they live here as if they were at home. Love it so much!!

glamourousindierockandroll · 21/12/2022 11:17

Like @XanaduKira I would just do degrees for fun.

I'd also quite like to be a genealogy researcher that people could hire to do it all for them.

Ooh toighie!

years ago I would have said to retrain as a midwife or doctor but honestly wouldn’t want to work in the nhs regardless of no money worries, just seems a sad a stressful place to be at the moment!

so I think I would open a shop which sold knitting and craft supplies, with lessons and workshops. I would also apply for an alcohol licence so I could sell bottled beer / wines etc. Although friends don’t let friends knit drunk so it might not be the best plan…..

Tumbleweed101 · 21/12/2022 11:59

Author, I used to write novels all time and was working towards publication until I became a single parent and had to work full time.

SagelyNodding · 21/12/2022 12:07

I'd have a smallholding/animal rescue type of thing.
I definitely couldn't afford to do that now, but I would love it so much!

Christmasinbed · 21/12/2022 12:10

I 2nd lifetime student as someone else said but I'd also be an International craftsperson, something I'm working on anyway.. Grin

candlesinthesnow · 21/12/2022 12:11

I’d be an actor. I have no desire to be famous but would love to act as my full time job, especially in theatre.

I find it fascinating that some people would choose to study forever, that wouldn’t suit me at all. I sometimes still have nightmares that I’m back at uni 😂

Koifish · 21/12/2022 12:11

A piercer! I went to a piercing shop the other day for a helix piercing and the place was such good vibes and so fun.

Buckland123 · 21/12/2022 12:11

lead walking holidays around the world but mostly in mountainous places like Switzerland & the Andes. I’d get a bit fed up with all the random small talk you’d have to do probably after a while but all o really love doing is travelling & walking so it would be my ideal job!

I'm wondering what drunk knitting might look like? Waking up the next morning to find your cozy jumper turned into a glittery-yarn thong... Xmas Grin
