How many holidays abroad do you have a year?

For us a couple with 1 child it's only 1 a year.
We have to spread it out every month.
I wish we could afford 2 to break the year up a bit but we are happy to go away tbh.
What about everyone else ?

None.

NoelNoNoel · 18/12/2022 20:05

Early to mid 50’s couple here, we go abroad 6 times a year. My DH would like to go more often and I would be happy with three or four times so
we compromise.

Mushroo · 18/12/2022 20:09

This year we went 4 times but a lot of that is because we’re TTC so getting in holidays now!

I imagine once we have a LO it’ll drop way down. (Or if we end up childless it’ll increase a lot 😂)

Usplusone · 18/12/2022 20:09

As a family, none. Been abroad once all of us since kids 3 years ago when we had just one 18 month old. Might give France a try next summer. But I did go to Australia by myself last month to meet my new niece, not planning to do that trip with kids for at least 3 years!

monsteronahill · 18/12/2022 20:11

Two adults with no DC, probably 3-4 long haul holidays then a couple of city breaks (European normally) dotted here and there. As a child I probably did 2-3 a year, great memories!

CafeNervosa · 18/12/2022 20:11

None. Hopefully next year if we can save up. We’re a family of four.

PacificallyRequested · 18/12/2022 20:11

I've had one holiday abroad since 2019. Not planning any more for the foreseeable..

Fritilleries · 18/12/2022 20:11

We live on a dying planet. Flights create huge quantities of emissions. Holidays are difficult to justify from any moral perspective.

bedsaudfred · 18/12/2022 20:11

I would love to do two a year.
I think this year around may time I might get us both to book a week off and see if we can get a cheapish late deal.
We have just booked for October to the canaries
All inclusive for a week only £880 each which I thought was quite good really

None, I can either afford a nice gym membership and to do a hobby or go on holiday. I do the former because it works all year round.

bedsaudfred · 18/12/2022 20:12

We have a city break to Dublin booked but nothing long distance
And Blackpool for 3 nights ha ha

Pre kids - 3 or 4 times a year, most long haul
Post kids - one main holiday abroad plus other short breaks
Since covid/ now having teenagers, less of anything fun
When the little fuckers darlings leave home we’re gonna take so many holidays we’ll barely be here. Hopefully.

myfatisgettingfatter · 18/12/2022 20:14

I've had 2 .. both to the Canaries - 1 week AL cheap and cheerful around £530 . Loved it

Hadenough2022 · 18/12/2022 20:15

When our children were young once a year or every other year abroad. It’s so expensive in the school holidays.
Now it’s mainly just us we can afford to go more often. It’s what I prioritise over other stuff my car is old and I’ve cut down on buying clothes. Next year we have 3 booked.

bedsaudfred · 18/12/2022 20:15

@myfatisgettingfatter oooh that's a good price
Where did you go?
We've booked Gran Canaria staying in Maspalomas
It looks quite nice

None.

troppibambini6 · 18/12/2022 20:16

We usually do a week in May, 2-4 weeks in the summer and sometimes a week in October.
2 adults and 4 school age kids.

TheChosenTwo · 18/12/2022 20:17

All of us as a family twice a year. Each of us adults usually a city break on our own (well, with our own groups of friends). This year dh and I also had a week away without dc to celebrate our 20 year anniversary.

Greensky90 · 18/12/2022 20:17

2 sometimes 1. Next year I have booked and paid it all off. With the COL I probably won't go away again next year but we will see.

CoffeandTiaMaria · 18/12/2022 20:17

None and I think it’s more than 10 years since we last went.

Cuddlywuddlies · 18/12/2022 20:19

2 adult 2 dc two 2 week holidays (1 big one , one or two over to family in U.K. ) and a few mini-breaks for us (or separate) and then weekends in our home country (Ireland)
next year we have
me- weekend in London
dh- 4 days in Austria
me and dh- 4 days in Italy for a wedding
all of us - 10 days in Lake District U.K.
all of us - 2 week family holiday (undecided when and where)

HippeePrincess · 18/12/2022 20:20

None, I took my kids 6 years ago out of house proceeds and I’ve not been anywhere since. They’ve been to their grandparents place in Spain with their dad twice.
DP has been on a stag and a works do abroad.
We had saved and booked a short break to Disney but it was cancelled in covid and it was too expensive to re book!
We tend to do a week /10 days uk caravan holiday one year and a short uk air bnb stay the other but I daren’t book anything this year yet til we see what happens with the cost of living.

FestivePinkFairy · 18/12/2022 20:23

Usually once or twice a year. This year we had a month in Australia, but that was an extra special trip. Back to Europe next year. One week in a villa in Spain with friends then 10 days in Portugal with DH. Kids all grown up now.

ofwarren · 18/12/2022 20:24

None
The last time I went abroad was 4 years ago

CrotchetyQuaver · 18/12/2022 20:24

Not even once a year, last time was 4 years ago, probably 8 years before that. Thinking of going abroad next year sometime.
