How many holidays abroad do you have a year?

For us a couple with 1 child it's only 1 a year.
We have to spread it out every month.
I wish we could afford 2 to break the year up a bit but we are happy to go away tbh.
What about everyone else ?

None. I haven't been abroad in about 7 years and that was for a wedding. It's quite sad really as I used to love to travel but just haven't had the money or opportunity recently

Ruffpuff · 18/12/2022 21:11

None. I haven’t been abroad in over 6 years. In that time we’ve been on two U.K. camping holidays, 1 glamping and Butlins. Can’t say it’s my cup of tea, but it’s better than nothing. FYI I love travelling and going abroad, it’s not something I don’t engage with by choice.

lynthesearesexpeople · 18/12/2022 21:11

None.

Last time we went abroad was 2015 and I can’t see a time where we will be able to afford to again.

We don’t even have holidays in this country, we go nowhere. It’s fucking depressing.

UsingChangeofName · 18/12/2022 21:12

Recently, none.
We last went abroad as a family in 2015.
Prior to that we went alternate years, 4 times. Prior to that, only Wales (does that count as abroad as it is another country for me ?)

@ladywithnomanors

No, you don't. We have plenty of UK holidays. But, this thread is about going abroad on holiday.

Lochjeda · 18/12/2022 21:15

Twice with the kids and once without them for three or four nights.

Luckyducker · 18/12/2022 21:16

None. I was last abroad 15 years ago.

GreenShadow · 18/12/2022 21:17

@stargirl1701 You don't have to fly to go to Europe. In many ways it's much easier to drive and take all the families clobber.

I'm hoping to take the train to Amsterdam at some point, but I'll agree the timings of the journey don;t make it an easy alternative to flying

Two adults with no DC, probably 3-4 long haul holidays then a couple of city breaks (European normally) dotted here and there. As a child I probably did 2-3 a year, great memories!

And this is why our world is dying. Entitlement. Selfishness.

Happtimescoming · 18/12/2022 21:18

2 kids and we try to do 1 a year. However this year with paying extortionate nursery fees for the youngest I don’t know if we will be back to afford it (we have savings but don’t want to dip into them too much) also it’s just hassle going abroad with a 1 and 4 year old, we might wait until the 1 year old is 3 and we get the 30 free hours..we’ll be ‘richer’ again then and less hassle!

stargirl1701 · 18/12/2022 21:18

@GreenShadow

Not quite as easy when you live in Northern Scotland and one of your DC is autistic.

GreenShadow · 18/12/2022 21:21

@Spellegrin I so agree. Some of the attitude on MN generally make me despair.

My children are grown, and we're now at the time of life when we could travel widely but just can't justify all the flying.

Spendonsend · 18/12/2022 21:22

.2 times

Ferry , Eurostar .....

lightand · 18/12/2022 21:24

About 1 every 3 years.
May be a car trip to France next year.

megletthesecond · 18/12/2022 21:25

None.
I last went abroad 16 years ago.

Puppyseahorse · 18/12/2022 21:27

this year, 7, 4 proper ones and 3 long weekends. Most were short haul as we have a baby.

thenightsky · 18/12/2022 21:28

About once every 2 years.

DogInATent · 18/12/2022 21:28

One, for four weeks in the summer.

Sometimes a last minute quick weekend trip, but they'd be catching up with family/very close friends. But none of those the last couple of years.

IDontWantToBeAPie · 18/12/2022 21:29

Five last year, but I don't have children and I work in the travel industry. So doesn't cost me much sometimes. Also one was for a family wedding.

IDontWantToBeAPie · 18/12/2022 21:30

There will be lots of travel deals to be had in the first weeks of January btw so worth seeing if there's anything that appeals then.

Spiderboy · 18/12/2022 21:31

None… I haven’t been abroad since I was a child due to the cost. I would like 1 a year or every couple of years

IntentionalError · 18/12/2022 21:37

Normally three or four. A week in May / June then a week or a fortnight in September / October plus at least one short break. We are in our 50s with no mortgage & no dependents. We are financially comfortable, but not wealthy.

Holidays are a big priority for us, and there are lots of things which most people spend lots of money on (eg designer clothes & accessories, children, fashionable interior decor, beauty treatments, pets, takeaway coffee, cigarettes / vapes, gambling, computer games, Deliveroo, Netflix etc etc) which we spend next to nothing on.

TravellingSpoon · 18/12/2022 21:38

I try for one a year, but it doesnt always happen.

Have taken the DC's abroad by myself twice where we flew. When I was with Ex-H we used to drive to France.

LabradorEyes · 18/12/2022 21:38

Single, mid 50s, decent salary...I generally go abroad 4 or 5 times a year for holidays, plus a couple of times on work trips
