How many holidays abroad do you have a year?

For us a couple with 1 child it's only 1 a year.
We have to spread it out every month.
I wish we could afford 2 to break the year up a bit but we are happy to go away tbh.
What about everyone else ?

Not been abroad since 2008.

AuntieStella · 18/12/2022 20:46

Maybe every other year

OneCup · 18/12/2022 20:46

5 a year. We're incredibly lucky.

None. We don't fly for environmental reasons.

You don't have to fly to go on holiday 😀

catsonahottinroof · 18/12/2022 20:47

None since 2019. Before that, probably once every two to three years.

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 18/12/2022 20:47

Strange - I posted '0' and the post came out blank!

TearsNReindeers · 18/12/2022 20:48

Depends. Year on year finances and circumstances are different.

This year I’ve been to Ireland to see family, the USA visiting family, Spain for a long weekend visiting family and then Spain again for a proper summer holiday. No plans yet for 2023…we’ll see.

There have been years travel hasn’t been possible, and years I’ve travelled a lot. I feel very fortunate. Travel is one of the highlights of my life.

Plannersareus · 18/12/2022 20:48

Every school holidays, plus a few weekends away with either my sister, friends or husband. Not all flights many are to Paris on the eurostar

Bluevelvetsofa · 18/12/2022 20:50

None. Last one was 2008.

earsup · 18/12/2022 20:52

And an annual trip to Turkey for dentistry...that one actually works out free as I pay about £60 for a crown or root canal and they want £500 plus in the uk for the same treatment and it needs to be done anyway so why not have some sun and a holiday at same time !

Baconand · 18/12/2022 20:52

We tend to have a big expensive trip every 3-5 years. Nothing regularly in between. But we live in the sort of house people pay to go on holiday to (chocolate box thatched cottage in a picture perfect rural village) so we are very happy with holidays at home. It seems daft to pay money to go to somewhere less nice than where you live!

Anewhoo · 18/12/2022 20:52

2 adults and a toddler. We had six abroad trips together this year, and I had a weekend away with some friends in Belgium.

NibbledSwitch · 18/12/2022 20:54

I have a reasonable paid job, slightly above national earnings. However because I live alone there is no money to save for luxuries such as holidays.

Its a bit shit but I acknowledge others have it worse.

Baconand · 18/12/2022 20:56

Oh I should have added, 1 DC who hasn’t had a holiday yet due to Covid (she is 3) and we don’t fly for environmental reasons. We do trips to Europe accessible by car (electric) or rail but usually go for 3-4 weeks and stay in high end hotels or villas. Not in to package holidays and we don’t need to navigate Disney etc yet.

Smarshian · 18/12/2022 20:57

This year:
Feb DH went to Vegas
April DH and I went to Chicago
July DH and I and the primary aged DC went to Portugal
October I went to Spain.
we also had a week in the UK with the DC in May.

We live on a dying planet. Flights create huge quantities of emissions. Holidays are difficult to justify from any moral perspective.

🙄

kitcat15 · 18/12/2022 20:59

At least 2 abroad every year

whoruntheworldgirls · 18/12/2022 21:01

2 adults and a 6yr old, we do 2 or 3 a year with at least 1 being long haul.

Vintagevixen · 18/12/2022 21:02

None. I haven't been abroad for eight years.

donniedarko89 · 18/12/2022 21:03

This year I have been abroad 4 times, twice just me and DD to visit my parents who live in Southern Europe, once with DH and DD for a family holiday in Greece, and then again with DH and DD for a weekend city break.

whumpthereitis · 18/12/2022 21:03

Usually 3-5. Two of us, no kids.

somewhereovertherain · 18/12/2022 21:04

One long haul, one European and a few Weeks’s if we can.

Mumlifedc · 18/12/2022 21:07

No holidays abroad for 11 years no holidays at all last year doubt we will go away next year maybe when my youngest starts highschool so our child care fees drop we might go away then but don't see us affording abroad ever again

gwenneh · 18/12/2022 21:08

Since 2019, none. We used to get in one or two per year. We have one booked for 2023, and hopefully will manage to get at least one more.
