How many holidays abroad do you have a year?

For us a couple with 1 child it's only 1 a year.
We have to spread it out every month.
I wish we could afford 2 to break the year up a bit but we are happy to go away tbh.
What about everyone else ?

So there you have it. People could not GIVE A DAMN about the environment.

Sad thing is these people spouting about all their long haul holiday are the ones with children mostly.

They don't care about their children or their grand-children's future - just as long as they can go on holiday.

FFS. Sleepwalking in to the abyss.

HowDoYouOwnDisorder · 19/12/2022 22:29

Last one was 5 years ago

we can only do school holidays as both in teaching, and it is just way too expensive

I find this thread a little distasteful

Once a year for two weeks in August we have a beach holiday in Europe. We both earn a very average wage and have two children (one at uni) and just about manage financially.

Don’t read it then?

This is horrendously patronising. The main reason people can afford holidays is earning decent money, not cutting out netflix. Give your head a wobble ffs.

You need to give your bitter head a wobble. I said SKY not Netflix. You and the other poster missed where I said I saved in lockdown and I'm a single parent too.

Everybody's spending habits are different. I don't have a high flying job either. Get off your high horse.

daisytumble · 29/01/2023 15:37

We went 3 times last year but that was unusual for us and they were all short breaks done cheaply.

Probably once this year short haul somewhere sunny, if we are lucky. No idea how people afford to go multiple times long haul

Sugarplumfairy65 · 29/01/2023 16:34

None. We are trying to keep our carbon footprint as low as possible. The earth is dying.

Iwantabloodypizza · 29/01/2023 16:55

None.

No holidays in this country either. I’d probably bite someone’s arm off for a night in a Holiday Inn in the next shitty town over to be honest, we do nothing.

Last holiday abroad or of any sort was a decade ago and I can’t see a time where we will be able to afford another.

BamBamBilla · 29/01/2023 17:39

I've been overseas 3 times so far. So my average is once a decade.

Northlights22 · 29/01/2023 18:27

just me and my husband
we will go away for a couple weekends in the uk per year
one big, summer holiday last year was st Lucia
I also travel to work and my husband joins me so we have an add on holiday two times a year usually in the states or middle east
at least one long weekend in a European city
and always a winter holiday usual in Scandinavia

for anyone wanting to be sanctimonious but choose to have kids

If you avoid aeroplane travel, it's 1.6 tCO2e saved per round transatlantic flight. Eating a plant-based diet saves 0.8 tCO2e a year. But not having a child, in the developed world at least, saves 59 tonnes (tCO2e) emission reductions per year.

we have chosen not to have kids

HasAnyoneSeenMySlippers · 29/01/2023 18:28

Normally just one.

Peckhaminn · 29/01/2023 18:32

Partner and I go on maybe 1 or 2 a year

MadeOfSteel · 29/01/2023 18:33

None. We haven't been abroad for 10 years now. Just can't afford it.

Crikeyalmighty · 29/01/2023 18:34

2 or3 - one 20 dayer usually and a couple of 4 day city breaks - no kids at home

ohlalalalalalalalala · 29/01/2023 18:37

1-3 depending on the year. Have two holidays booked already for this year, neither being our main summer holiday yet.

I must admit I am looking forward to my children being grown up and being able to holiday in term time Grin

MajorCarolDanvers · 29/01/2023 18:40

Usually try and have two trips abroad. One beach and one city.

My DH gets less annual leave than me so sometimes that can make it difficult.
