How many holidays abroad do you have a year?

For us a couple with 1 child it's only 1 a year.
We have to spread it out every month.
I wish we could afford 2 to break the year up a bit but we are happy to go away tbh.
What about everyone else ?

We're a family of three. We usually go twice a year. One week either early in the year or October and 2-3 weeks in the summer hols. Usually Eurocamp type holidays or half board Iberostar holidays.

Choconut · 18/12/2022 20:30

When we had a mortgage to pay we went once or twice a year, now it's paid off we go as much as possible, 5 or 6 times a year. It's what makes life worth living to me.

jannier · 18/12/2022 20:32

7 years ago it's too expensive.

We're extremely fortunate and often do 3 trips abroad a year (last year and this year will be 3 trips each), with other breaks in the UK. We don't tend to go for 5* luxury or expensive resorts though, we're often in a budget self catering place or camping.

We live on a dying planet. Flights create huge quantities of emissions. Holidays are difficult to justify from any moral perspective.

Abroad doesn't always involve flying. Most of my trips abroad are by car/van or train.

qpmz · 18/12/2022 20:37

I can't face a plane journey with a baby so it's been a while. Went to Dorset in summer in a gorgeous cottage. Don't feel the need to go abroad now, the UK is beautiful.

Kods ate too young and I cant be bothered with the faff.

They are getting older so hopefully will start soon

I'm unsure why it matters to you, but to take your question at face value, until bad health got in my way, I lived abroad for eight weeks a year.

GyozaGuiting · 18/12/2022 20:39

3, but DH works in the travel industry so all 3 were discounted. Otherwise we couldn’t do it.

MintyGreenDreams · 18/12/2022 20:39

This year 2 weeks in Egypt and 1 week in Crete.
Next year 3 weeks in Egypt and 1 week in Turkey

SouperNoodle · 18/12/2022 20:39

None.
I managed to go abroad for a long weekend in November but only because it was free.

I've never been abroad with DH because our life is just too expensive.
Hoping to go with him and the kids next year when he goes private! 🤞

@myfatisgettingfatter oooh that's a good price
Where did you go?
We've booked Gran Canaria staying in Maspalomas
It looks quite nice

We went there last year with the kids - try Ciao Ciaos on the beach as well and make sure you book into the restaurants! Oh, and we loved the 4x4 safari - well worth it!

We are in a better financial position now as my husband sold his company’s, so we have 5/6 a year. I used to have 3 though (Easter, summer and October) and that felt like a good mix.

SeasonsBleatings · 18/12/2022 20:41

It's varies but before Covid averaged once or twice a year as we have a lot of family overseas. This year we've been away once as a family plus DH has been away on his own once and I've been away on my own twice.

cptartapp · 18/12/2022 20:42

Usually three or four. None since February this year though due to illness. Once DC2 is off our hands imminently, DH and I plan to use our six weeks leave and have a week away every two months.

RedToothBrush · 18/12/2022 20:42

Before covid. 2 to 3 times a year.

The last time I went abroad was Aug 2019 though.

I am currently in the process of correcting this...

Going forward I suspect 1 to 2 times is likely to be more typical.

stargirl1701 · 18/12/2022 20:43

None. We don't fly for environmental reasons.

Tayegete · 18/12/2022 20:44

Once every 4-5 years. Currently saving for 2024. When the kids leave home and we only have to pay for the two of us hopefully more often.

ladywithnomanors · 18/12/2022 20:45

It depends on what you class as a holiday. A weekend away or longer?
We usually have one 2 week holiday and then 2 or 3 weekends away.

myfatisgettingfatter · 18/12/2022 20:45

@bedsaudfred -Fuerteventura - Elba Castillo San Jorge - not school holidays and booked with Jet 2 - great price and great value

earsup · 18/12/2022 20:45
