Anyone else have a totally irrational dislike of something?

There is a set of traffic lights/junction near me which I absolutely hate. Nothing bad has ever happened to me there, but i have a loathing for it that I cant explain or understand. Its not a difficult junction either.

I actively go out of my way to avoid it.

Also, Chris Packham. He rubs me up the wrong way. I get his passion for nature etc, but he creeps me out.

Speedweed · 16/12/2022 22:16

I bloody love you all, so much laughter reading your responses and I really needed cheering up today.

What's wrong with this? The GM "playing mum"? Or do you think the mum should be pushing her own baby?

The tread is about IRRATIONAL dislike

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 16/12/2022 22:16

Men in cravats and sideburns.

Sometimes I wonder if I had a bad experience with one when I was a small child in the 70s and I have blocked it out.

Grey jogging bottoms. Worn by ex cons, people who have given up on life, people who don't exercise, people who can't get anything else to fit. They look slobby and they are extremely unattractive. Combined with a grey hoodie well, I have no more words.

And always look like they really need a wash. Hate them.

Those stupid bloody captcha tests to prove you aren’t a robot. Are you meant to tick every box which has even the corner of the traffic light in it or only the boxes with the main image in it? No matter which option I go for it’s always bloody wrong and then you get 50 more of boats and cars and ships and planes. I fcking HATE them.

Surely this is not irrational but absolutely reasonable. I feel the same.

Rudolphscarrot · 16/12/2022 22:23

Cotton wool. Just the thought of it makes me shiver.

Took DS to toddler group last week and one of the activities was "make a Snowman with this cotton wool". No thanks!!!

The green railings at the end of Grove Road in Birkenhead. Have shut my eyes when passing them for more than fifty years.

5128gap · 16/12/2022 22:27

Harvest and all the traditions around it, Harvest festivals, suppers, the hampers for the elderly and that hymn bringing in the sheaves. Even the word makes me feel sad and uneasy.

Salvia89 · 16/12/2022 22:32

The sound of water being poured into/out of a jug etc on tv. Makes me cringe 😬

TokyoSushi · 16/12/2022 22:36

The colours brown and yellow.

Could of, would of, should of

blueshoes · 16/12/2022 22:38

The black mould that grows in the grouting in swimming pools and wet bath floors.

The thought of a squashed snail underfoot with broken shell.

Fish flopping around on dry land before dying [think berlin hotel tsunami]

Cockroach flying into your face, possibly your mouth [grew up in tropics with nasty hard brown crunchy flying cockroaches]

Cockroach slowly creeping about your darkened bedroom at night, with its hard spikes scratching against the floor making its way to your pillow and next to your face ...

Rufffles · 16/12/2022 22:38

Oh god, the long sticky tags they put on your luggage when you fly. I rip it off the minute I take my case off the carousel. No idea why.

1ittlegreen · 16/12/2022 22:40

Oh god, bogies for me. Was just served in Leon by a girl who had a milky green bogie on the precipice of her nostril and it made me want to heave. It was too heavy to flutter in and out when she talked to me. Absolutely hate bogies and snot. Even when babies sneeze.

blueshoes · 16/12/2022 22:41

Spas

Anyone massaging my body, particularly my neck

Light feathery touches. I feel like jumping out of my skin.

Singingtherapy · 16/12/2022 22:51

People eating in non eating situations. I love eating with other people in restaurants, cafes, homes, whatever. But cannot stand it when colleagues for example start getting their snack out in the middle of meetings.

Long ugly fingernails. So many women on MN post pics of their pregnancy tests and ultrasounds and ALL I can focus on is their fugly long natural nails in the photo. I like nails short and the long natural ones make me want to throw up.

This!
And those exaggerated curved ones make me ill they're vile! And the thought of the junk underneath them 🤢

ElfShake · 16/12/2022 22:54

The word lose spelt ‘loose’. I know a lot of people find it mildly annoying, the irrational bit is how much it annoys me!

Mariposista · 16/12/2022 22:57

When people put sugar in their coffee, stir it, and then leave the spoon in. Hate it. hahahaha that's what the saucer is for.

Mariposista · 16/12/2022 22:59

cptartapp · 16/12/2022 19:29

Grandparents (usually GM) pushing the GC in the pram playing mum, whilst mum trots along beside.

Hahaha you would hate our family then. My MIL pushed the pram to take DS home for the first time. My mum gave his first bottle. DH was the first to hold him (well we sort of held him together). Made both grandmothers' years and everyone was happy.

PopcornAndPeanutsAndChocolateAndTea · 16/12/2022 23:00

Oh and 'I'm a nutter me, I'm SO funny'
No
No you're not

TheaBrandt · 16/12/2022 23:04

Less and fewer misuse. I wince everytime. Especially on the radio. Also radio presenters that can’t speak properly and have bad grammar. Their one job is to talk correctly and they can’t even do that. Concluding I am born in the wrong era and listen to too much radio.

Melisande90 · 16/12/2022 23:04

White socks. Especially on men, no idea why.

chelle0 · 16/12/2022 23:04

Peas and Lorraine Kelly.

Owen Jones

That sounds perfectly rational to me.
