Anyone else have a totally irrational dislike of something?

There is a set of traffic lights/junction near me which I absolutely hate. Nothing bad has ever happened to me there, but i have a loathing for it that I cant explain or understand. Its not a difficult junction either.

I actively go out of my way to avoid it.

Grandparents (usually GM) pushing the GC in the pram playing mum, whilst mum trots along beside.

My dad used to puff up with pride, and positively glow with happiness, when he had the honour (in his mind) of pushing my DC's pram. I thought it was absolutely lovely.

You're right, that is absolutely lovely😊

I do a bit of filing for someone's business and I really, really dislike filing away one bank's statements but have no problem with the other bank's statements. I think it's the layout, the fact they don't put holes in their statements and the print isn't pleasing to the eye.

Not sure if the same thing; but colleagues daughter wanted a hamster as a pet; which I said as in "I am not sure hamsters are allowed as pets here" she got very eye rolly and huffy about itAngry and insisted I was wrong.

Turns out she is wrong Grin but her huffy eye rolling arrogance gave me the 💩

With my tongue in the middle of my mouth - just resting against the roof of my mouth.

The smile I mean has the tongue really pushed against the top teeth so you can see it sticking out around the sides of the teeth.

I have no idea why this pains me so much 🥴

I am sorry but I’ve never seen anybody smile the way you just described LOL!
Did you know that smiling usually occurs with one’s mouth closed? So how can you see their tongues? I’m baffled…

Hubcapdiamondstarhalo · 20/12/2022 16:26

The colour yellow
Men's names with a K in.

No rhyme or reason, they just give me the heebie-jeebies.

Speaking of irrational dislikes - the new Mumsnet buzzword - 'baffled'. See also 'baffling'.

SinnerBoy · 20/12/2022 17:51

They're old words.

www.macmillandictionaryblog.com/baffle

The origin of the word baffle is obscure: it may come from the French ‘bafouer’ meaning to ridicule or ‘beffer’ meaning to mock. It first came into use in English around the 1540s, when the word baffle meant ‘to disgrace’.

Tom and Giovanna Fletcher. That year he was on strictly he drove me mad. Even their names annoy me. She’s a ‘professional mother’ and he looks about 12. It’s a no from me.

ShirleyValentin3 · 20/12/2022 18:01

I couldn't get a picture to upload, but managed to find a link to a picture of Britney doing it.

I have a couple of friends on FB that I've had to unfollow because their smile is the same (not always though - which makes it more bizarre?!)

Aha, now I get it. I don't think I've ever noticed before!

Not intentionally

Sorry, ED!

It completely irrational. I'm sure you have a lovely smile 😆

My teenage DS and his female friends had a phase of taking selfies with their tongues sort of part sticking out, and rolled slightly to look big. It looked VILE, and I ranted a fair amount about how much I hated it - happily he took the hint.

I really hate most selfies though, especially pouting porn star type poses.

Completely unrelated, but I also hate food containers with a cellophane top, where the cellophane won't tear off so you have to use a knife to get access to the food.

RobinRobinMouse · 20/12/2022 19:26

The word 'naice'
Show home furniture
People seeing me brush my teeth (dd or dh, I obviously don't have a big audience).
Jogging bottoms on anyone not doing sport

HeatwaveToNightshade · 20/12/2022 19:26

They're old words.

Oh, I know! they just seem to have recently joined the list of overused words on here, such as 'vile' and 'entitled', that keep popping up at the minute. And posters seem to be 'baffled' at things of very little consequence.

LadyVictoriaSponge · 20/12/2022 21:13

When you open a loaf of bread and you discover there is a hole running through all the slices, gives me the rage, I feel ripped off by Hovis selling me a sub par loaf that I can’t butter properly because of said hole.

SinnerBoy · 21/12/2022 07:57

Oh yes!

And another vote for cellophane having to be cut, as it won't peel away. Especially on resealable ham.

HeatwaveToNightshade · 21/12/2022 08:33

'You've got this' - hate that saying!

I can’t stand these two either, especially since they were caught claiming furlough for their staff!

Personalised number plates aka vanity plates

Owen Jones

Perfectly reasonable. He's a creepy bellend

TheRedLip · 22/12/2022 17:53

Poor spoken grammar and festive nail art. Quite often they're combined and it makes me rage inside.

tregunamekoidestrecorumsatisdee · 23/12/2022 21:19

People who use draw instead of drawer make my blood boil. When they see everyone else using 'drawer' in written responses do they not twig?! 😤
