Anyone else have a totally irrational dislike of something?

There is a set of traffic lights/junction near me which I absolutely hate. Nothing bad has ever happened to me there, but i have a loathing for it that I cant explain or understand. Its not a difficult junction either.

I actively go out of my way to avoid it.

People who don't pack as they scan on the self service check out. Instead they pile everything up and then gormlessly pull out a bag and start packing

When they have scales, you can't. Otherwise the machine has a fit. Allegedly you can put a bag down and then pack it but that has only ever worked for me once.

There's nothing irrational about a lot of these though.

Mine is having to go over narrow motorway bridges or dual carriageway bridges (ie pedestrian bridges over the top).

This in spades. And I find the pictures are always a bit blurry so you can't actually see properly

Hating these isn't remotely irrational!

@smooththecat not anywhere I shop ( sainsburys, co op mainly but nip in to loads of places) .. it says if you have your own bag, put it on.. press continue.. and off you go! Easy!

It does say that, I admit.

However, it is a big fat lie.

Also you can only do one bag, even if it does work, which is no good if you have more than one bag full.

Fortunately Waitrose and M&S have self-serve tills where you can pack as you go.

Dry robes. And especially dry robes in silly situations like walking down a high street, watching a rugby match, in a petrol station. Buy a coat 😏

BoingBoing999 · 17/12/2022 21:09

@lieselotte I filled 3 carrier bags at sainsburys the other day with no problem whatsoever

A dressing gown?

This annoys me too. But I suppose if I had spent that much money on a changing tent with arms, I might be tempted to get my full use out of it🙂

Davros · 18/12/2022 10:34

Yes, what are "dry robes"?

SinnerBoy · 18/12/2022 10:50

I've never heard of dry robes. Dressing gown?

BelenaConhamHarter · 18/12/2022 10:55

Bananas

But nothing winds me up as much as DH is wound up by DS's low level computer game commentary. I don't even notice it until DH starts complaining.

Funkyslippers · 18/12/2022 10:59

mangomelba I hate that Virgin Atlantic or whatever it is as because of that woman pulling a face at that little girl. Makes no sense and I can't even look at the screen when it comes on.

Aldo agree with people sticking their tongues out in photos. It feels like a big "we're having such a great time but you're not invited" type thing

Namechangeasbeingabitch · 18/12/2022 11:00

I work in a library. I have a colleague who is absolutely lovely and good at her job, but in her accent library sounds like lie-berry and it drives me nuts. She says it like 20 times a day.

Davros · 18/12/2022 10:34

Yes, what are "dry robes"?

They are zip up changing robes for the beach or water sports etc. They are waterproof and look like big shapeless coats. People have started wandering around in them - whether for warmth or as a fashion statement I'm not sure!

Champagneforeveryone · 18/12/2022 11:13

That reminds me namechange I have a colleague who I just can't gel with. She's quite two faced and on several occasions has messed up and made excuses or deflected onto others - we work in a job where mistakes could have potentially fatal consequences so it's a big deal.

All that aside, she puts her lunchbox on the same shelf in the fridge as mine. Sometimes it even touches my lunch.

I'm fully aware she has every right to put her lunchbox wherever she wants, and that I in no way own the shelf, but that doesn't stop me being consumed with an all consuming fury every time she does it 😤

Oh, thanks for the explanation.

Namechangeasbeingabitch · 18/12/2022 11:38

@Champagneforeveryone i feel your pain. With my colleague I feel even worse in that she’s really nice and I like her. I think if she was shit at the job or annoying in other ways I could just dislike her.

Bonjovispyjamas · 18/12/2022 11:50

Claudia Winkleman, she's the reason I can't watch strictly, can't stand the woman, but I don't actually know why 🤷‍♀️

TroysMammy · 18/12/2022 11:52

Children giving thumbs up in photos. My niece does it and it really annoys me. It detracts from her lovely face and where she is as I only zone in on her thumbs and it looks bloody stupid.

I can't stand that face-pulling on the Virgin Atlantic ad either! The air steward's sparkly eyeshadow is gorgeous though, I watch the ad just for that 😁

Another sticking the tongue out bugbear I have is when people with tongue piercings do it. Yes, we get it, you've had your tongue pierced. Well done you.

I was a body piercer for a long time. There's absolutely nothing remarkable about a tongue piercing, I did them day in, day out. They're one of the easiest piercings you can have, in terms of pain and healing time.

That leads on to something else I can't bear. People with healed tongue piercings that wear a barbell that's too long, and constantly arse about with it and click it against their teeth. FUCKING STOP IT.

TroysMammy · 18/12/2022 11:53

She looks like a demented wee Jimmy Krankie. "Fandabidozi"

The way hotels tuck the quilt into the mattress. Gives me the utter rage for some reason. First thing I do is pull it all out.

Another hotel one.

Kettles in hotel rooms that won't fit under the tap. Yes, you could fill it with the cup, but that's a pain in the arse.

jkkkk · 18/12/2022 12:43

Range Rovers ...i just detest them , especially the White colour ones .too blingy ..and there are those with the rear end lob sided with a flat roof ..yuck ..they are too big for the roads , take up all the parking space , pollute the air with toxic fumes , and drivers who take there kids to school in them just to look posh .

jkkkk · 18/12/2022 12:44

These , hate them
