Stupidly difficult work quiz

Seasons greetings!

The stupidly difficult work quiz is back for those of you that remember (@rosegoldwatcher).

Basically there are a series of very hard puzzles to solve - each puzzle solve gives you a password to move onto the next stage.

I've already managed to solve stage one myself (go me!) but I've ground to a halt as usual on the second stage (which consists of 8 individual puzzles to solve).

Here's a couple of puzzles i'm stuck on - any help much appreciated!

Maybe it's some kind of substitution/alphabet cipher? Using the first/last letters or number of letters?

I think its

WFGLFTMMGCGESTPPDJSSRSFPIALHGRLAHHSD

We Free Gings Lof Forient Tare. That's definitely the beginningGrin

Newwardrobe · 13/12/2022 11:04

🤣🤣

Newwardrobe · 13/12/2022 11:06

What about converting letters to numbers and adding them up? Would that make a number that's significant eg 1979 when the song was released?

minou123 · 13/12/2022 11:06

We Free Gings Lof Forient Tare

Brilliant @GoldenCupidon 😁

ApocalypseNowt · 13/12/2022 11:08

No of letters per answer added up = 398

Tried 1979 but that didn't work

What about A=1 B=2 etc

SoupDragon · 13/12/2022 11:15

ApocalypseNowt · 13/12/2022 10:50

I did the same! And read the lyrics too very carefully! What a wally.

I took the number of the initial letter of the games and counted that many words into the lyrics. That is how sad I am. (Spoiler alert: it made no sense 😂)

ApocalypseNowt · 13/12/2022 11:16

Using first letters (assuming all are correct) gives us 411

Does anyone have the GCHQ puzzle book? I did have it but I can't find it. That's proved helpful before!!!

I thought they'd learnt their lesson from the first time we used it though 😂

GoldenCupidon · 13/12/2022 11:28

Peeved we can't solve this.

OP I don't suppose you work in anything where radio is relevant/has a different meaning? Thinking police, hospital etc.

GetOffTheRoof · 13/12/2022 11:29

411 is used as a synonym for story, scoop, lowdown, news etc. Any link?

No nothing like that. Nothing in any previous quizzes have ever been anything work related anyway :(

Thinking of the "read left to right, top to bottom"...it's not as simple as the first letter of the diagonal line from first to last row is it? WMPSGD if I've copied them correctly from a previous post.

SoupDragon · 13/12/2022 11:38

I've run it through a couple of cipher decoders and have nothing.

Newwardrobe · 13/12/2022 11:50

It's not some sort of conversion rate ? WMP (whalemap) to Singapore Dollars?
Massively clutching at straws!

Xmasfairy86 · 13/12/2022 11:50

I thought this would be cracked by the time I got back!

Gave it a try but not the answer :(

I hate getting stuck!

Is it left to right across both pages perhaps? Not sure if that makes it make sense but rather than left to right one page 1 and then page 2. Could it be across both

Mince314s · 13/12/2022 12:21

Is it 'among us'?

ApocalypseNowt · 13/12/2022 12:25

Mince314s Not among us unfortunately. How did you get to that? Just in case you're on the right lines...!

kernowpicklepie I don't think it's L to R across both pages. On the original it is just on one page - I had to cut it into 2 as I couldn't get it all in one screen shot.

Mince314s · 13/12/2022 12:27

That's taking the first letter of worms then the second letter of the one starting with the last letter of worms reading left to right then third letter of the one starting with the last letter of that, etc. Seems to give the words 'we seek' which is from among us where someone is trying to kill people. Might be clutching at straws 😂
