Stupidly difficult work quiz

Seasons greetings!

The stupidly difficult work quiz is back for those of you that remember (@rosegoldwatcher).

Basically there are a series of very hard puzzles to solve - each puzzle solve gives you a password to move onto the next stage.

I've already managed to solve stage one myself (go me!) but I've ground to a halt as usual on the second stage (which consists of 8 individual puzzles to solve).

Here's a couple of puzzles i'm stuck on - any help much appreciated!

1st letter of the 1st answer, 2nd of the 2nd and so on.
2nd line, start again

I've only worked out the first bit (supposed to be working) but so far it reads

"WHATGAMEIS"

Ha, I thought I'd made it far too complicated with the last letter of the previous one bit 😂 well done!

muddybootx · 13/12/2022 15:07

What a great thread!

To throw my tuppence in - I think part 4 is casts of movies. The 2nd one is Independence Day (Will Smith, Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum, Mary Mcdonnell)

ifIwerenotanandroid · 13/12/2022 15:09

'...Elrond and Farquaad [???] to make the name of characters across three separate movie franchises'

Not a clue.

BiliousOhGod · 13/12/2022 15:10

"Lord"? Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings and Shrek.

Lord, isn't it.

No idea what Lord and Cameron Diaz have in common! If that's even the question

Yes!
The clue is Which word can precede Voldemort, Elrond and Farquhar to make the name of characters across three separate movie franchises.

Mustangsallyis · 13/12/2022 15:15

Farqaad

Cheeseandabsolutelycrackers · 13/12/2022 15:18

The other movies are Silence of the Lambs, Jumanji and Argo

Meaning the question is

THE FIRST TEAM TO LOSE TO THE ENGLAND MENS FOOTBALL TEAM IN A PENALTY SHOOTOUT AT A MAJOR INTERNATIONAL TOURNAMENT

Sadly cannot help with the answer to that 😂

ifIwerenotanandroid · 13/12/2022 15:23

#2 Shout out to my ex
dancing queen

Am now preening myself like Mrs Doyle because I reckon the setters transposed two numbers in this one.

'Occupation of Don Quioxte' - should be Quixote?

Mustangsallyis · 13/12/2022 15:24

Part 2 is Knight.

Based on answers of dancing queen (thanks to pp)and bittersweet symphony,
the clue reads what is the occupation of don quicote(sp?), géralte of rivia, Brienne of Tarth and Ivanhoe as well as a chess piece that moves in an L pattern

England beat Spain in Euro1996 quarter-final.

minou123 · 13/12/2022 15:25

Part 1, 4th question.

Bitter Sweet Symphony by The Verve

Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, that's life
Tryna make ends meet, you're a slave to money then you die

BiliousOhGod · 13/12/2022 15:26

So, are the 4 parts:
Lord
Knight
Cameron Diaz
Spain

No idea what the connection is! lol

Mustangsallyis · 13/12/2022 15:28

So the answers are Lord, Knight, Spain and Cameron Diaz?

Film Knight and Day was filmed in Spain (in part) and Cameron Diaz was in it. Not sure about Lord??!

BiliousOhGod · 13/12/2022 15:28

Ooooo, is it Tom Cruise?

Just because Knight & Day was a film with Cameron Diaz, and now I have it in my head and can't see anything else....

Mustangsallyis · 13/12/2022 15:29

Lord Tom Cruise?! Grin

Cheeseandabsolutelycrackers · 13/12/2022 15:31

Is it something to do with El Cid?

GoldenCupidon · 13/12/2022 15:31

Bittersweet symphony!! Of course. What's the horticulture one in Part 2?

That was my first thought too.

But not sure how Tom Cruise connects to Lord.

Ahhhh I even had "I just want to fly" but didn't come up on google because Oasis can't speak proper like what I can

ifIwerenotanandroid · 13/12/2022 15:38

ifIwerenotanandroid · 13/12/2022 15:39

@Cheeseandabsolutelycrackers suggested it & I googled it.
