Comments on news reports are saying that five children/young teens have gone through ice into a lake and are in a critical condition.

Really hope that all involved make a full recovery

Oh gosh. I saw the breaking news and wondered what happened.

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 11/12/2022 17:44

I immediately thought people walking/skating on ice in this weather. Really hope they are OK, but remind your kids of the dangers of ice and cold water.

Bonjovispyjamas · 11/12/2022 18:05

This was just on BBC news, didn't say how many people and they don't know if it's children or adults.

Trying81 · 11/12/2022 18:11

A lot of Twitter comments seem to think there’s a few deaths unfortunately - awful news if true just before Christmas

This was just on BBC news, didn't say how many people and they don't know if it's children or adults.

Comments on Facebook underneath the Sky News article are from people who say they are local and it’s 5 young boys involved.

Regardless of age or gender I really hope all involved make a full recovery, awful news just before Christmas.

Always4Brenner · 11/12/2022 18:15

Tragic I’ve not seen this but so sad those poor families.

SinnerBoy · 11/12/2022 18:24

Oh blimey, that sounds absolutely awful. Right before Xmas, too. Their poor families.

YoSofi · 11/12/2022 18:25

Sky news have just updated to say it’s a search and rescue operation and that people have gone through the ice. So sad.

Four kids on life support. Hope they all pull through

BayCityTrollers · 11/12/2022 20:40

Just horrific news, so close to Christmas. Just read that they are children, unspeakably awful.

My thoughts are with their families and hope so much that they all survive. Desperately sad.

panko · 11/12/2022 20:41

Oh god. That's horrendous.

Afterfire · 11/12/2022 20:42

Just been reading about this on bbc news and the daily Mail. Just horrific. So sorry for all the families involved.

TinFoilHatty · 11/12/2022 20:43

Isn't it just awful, I feel so sorry for everyone involved.

camdenn · 11/12/2022 20:45

I searched this online; the guardian stated the police found out via social media footage and calls from the public. I wonder how social media was involved, as in were people recording what happened before/during the incident or the aftermath? Regardless I’m not sure why they would want to post footage of drowning people online

PolkaDotMankini · 11/12/2022 20:46

We were out walking today at a place with lots of ponds. The ice looked so tempting - and I'm a grown-up! I can totally understand how kids got themselves into trouble. I hope they pull through and everyone's accounted for. Unbearable to think of anyone still missing.

Always4Brenner · 11/12/2022 20:49

Still thinking of them and praying tonight those poor families are going through hell.

VisitingThem · 11/12/2022 20:53

Poor kids :( We went for a walk today by the lake near us and it was the first time my 5 year old had seen it frozen, I was explaining to him why it was dangerous to try and walk on it :(

massivecringe · 11/12/2022 20:55

Just terrible. Sky news says there were upto 6 people in the water but given the temp of the water, the age of the children and the time they would've been in the water it was no longer a search and rescue. Does this mean they don't expect the others to have survived ?

massivecringe · 11/12/2022 20:56

My ds has just asked why they go ice skating on it in lakes in Canada etc, I said I'm not sure they do other than in movies ??
But if they do it's because the ice is always frozen and ridiculously thick

Yes Sad

RJnomore1 · 11/12/2022 21:01

There’s a police statement now, four children in critical condition in two different hospitals. Hoping for the best for them and their families.

Because the weather is below freezing for months on end and the ice will be incredibly thick. Not the same as a weeks cold snap here.

YoSofi · 11/12/2022 21:01

I saw that the police had asked people not to share footage. Absolutely awful to think that people pull out their phones to film something so tragic let alone share it, but they do.

@massivecringe no there will be no survivors at this stage, it’s almost 7 hours since the incident. It’s so sad. Praying that all those in hospital pull through, their poor families must be beside themselves.

Why would anyone share footage?!

My thoughts with the families. How distressing.
