Comments on news reports are saying that five children/young teens have gone through ice into a lake and are in a critical condition.

Really hope that all involved make a full recovery

Absolute tragedy 4 young lives just wiped out like this

Autumnisclose · 14/12/2022 18:43

My DS fell down the stairs when he was a baby as I'd left the stair gates open. He was fine, but it could easily have been very different. My DCs started going out from age 10. We live in London, so there are the usual city dangers of traffic , people etc. Anything could have happened , but didn't. They are grown up now. There for the grace of God go I.

I'm so sorry for the families.

BesidetheseasideXxx · 14/12/2022 18:47

Gutted to learn that the six year old has died. For everyone involved he was the last little ray of hope. So sad.

Terryinblackpool · 14/12/2022 18:48

Really didn’t want to see that update. Sad

Bunnycat101 · 14/12/2022 19:01

That must be devastating news for the families involved especially if the little one was related to any of the other boys. Other posters looking to blame should hang their heads in shame. Those poor families will suffer for the rest of their lives with the ‘if only’ and ‘what-ifs’.

justgettingthroughtheday · 14/12/2022 19:29

Oh no! This is just so so dreadful. I had really begun to dare to hope he would pull through. Thoughts are with all the family and friends of all four children.

This. It's just so tragic. Those poor, poor families.

SinnerBoy · 14/12/2022 22:45

Oh no. I feared the worst from the start. It's awful.

Unforgettablefire · 14/12/2022 23:20

"Why is it okay to cry that it's not okay at all to judge parents who let their kids play alone but rip the shit out of parents who say they don't?"

@Dreamwhisper the ones who say they don't let their kids play out are smug. Acting superior and slyly placing blame where there isn't any without actually saying it direct.

Unforgettablefire · 14/12/2022 23:28

Namechangedforthisonetoday · 14/12/2022 07:33

If you are posting from a place of smug superiority and boasting about how you’ve never let your DC out of your sight for even a millisecond, what are you getting out of writing that? Does it make you feel good? Proud? Do you feel better directing the blame at the poor parents? I can tell you now that to the rest of us, you look cruel, and smug. It’s unnecessary. You don’t need to say it. Somewhere in Kingshurst this morning, families are waking up (if they’ve even managed to sleep), in the worst agony you could ever imagine. Not just mental, not just emotional - a physical pain that will never leave them. I have very sadly witnessed it with both my aunt and a friend who have lost children. So take a minute before you boast about your levels of superior parenting. Accidents happen. And they can happen at any age in life, when you can no longer keep your children wrapped up in cotton wool. So instead of writing rubbish on here, maybe thank God that it’s not you waking up in anguish and eternal torment because your child has died.

This. Those poor families probably don't want to wake up again I know I wouldn't. I just hope they have lots of support they'll need it.

RIP lads 💙💙💙💙

They went out to play. That is what children do.

Not when they're only 6. Not near deep water. Not if they were my child. Never.

I bet the boys’ parents would feel better reading your comment😒 The older boys were 10 and 11 and most dc are playing out at that age. They also died. Even when your dc is a teen, there’s a risk they’ll be in danger. I remember the pupils at my high school who appeared innocent and squeaky clean to their parents, but got up to all sorts of reckless things!

However, I don’t know why an 11 and 10 year old were solely responsible for the 8 and 6 year old.

The 10-year-old had never met the other three in his life.

dizzyupthegirl86 · 15/12/2022 11:13

The other boys names are released now. Two were brothers and the third was their cousin. For some reason, the idea of a family having to plan two funerals has upset me all over again. The poor family.

Mentallycollapsed · 15/12/2022 11:17

From what I've read the 10 year old was a passing stranger who saw they were struggling and tried to help. The boy died a hero bless him.

GelPens1 · 15/12/2022 11:18

Tintime2022 · 15/12/2022 10:58

I thought I read somewhere that the younger 2 were brothers and the 10 year old was their cousin. The 11 year old was their friend. It could be the other way around.

GelPens1 · 15/12/2022 11:20

@Tintime2022 @Mentallycollapsed the 10 year old was a cousin according to this article. It has just been revealed that the 6 and 8 year old boys were brothers :(

The article is wrong.

dizzyupthegirl86 · 15/12/2022 12:04

My understanding was 6 and 8 year old brothers, and their 11 year old cousin. The 10 year old apparently didn’t know them.

freyamay74 · 15/12/2022 15:40

Two brothers and their cousin

This is correct.

The 11-year-old had taken his six- and eight-year-old cousins who were brothers to feed the ducks. Events aren’t clear, but they fell through the ice.

The ten-year-old was passing with his older sister and ran in to help.

excelledyourself · 15/12/2022 16:35

Doing that at 10 years old and not even a friend or relative. What a brave and selfless little boy.

SleepingStandingUp · 15/12/2022 19:25

omg i just saw the update on the news. sitting here in front on my 7 yo trying not to cry. those two poor families. One family losing three kids, will there be feelings of blame over who was responsible and to blame - i hope not, that they can pull together not apart. and the other family, losing their son because they raised him to be so brave. Just so so awful.

3luckystars · 15/12/2022 19:45

That’s so sad.

HelpMeCope85 · 15/12/2022 20:30

Outright tragedy. The pain has to indescribable. Those poor children and families.

Jamesandthegiantpeach74 · 15/12/2022 20:47

This is incredicbly sad. Poor boys RIP xx
