Hi all, I’ve obviously name changed due to the content of the thread 😭

I thought I had a UTI about a month ago and was given three days worth of tablets from the pharmacy. Seemed better for a couple of weeks then my symptoms returned. I have a burning feeling down below that’s there most of the time but especially when I have to pee.

since then I’ve been back and forwards to the nurse eleventy billion times, we’ve tried thrush treatment, bv treatment, cystitis sachets. I’ve had a smear in the middle of it all and it came back fine. They’ve checked my bloods for diabetes and swabbed me for thrush and bv. During my swab for bv the speculum showed green discharge and the nurse was sure it must be bv but a weeks worth of antibiotics later and it’s still merrily burning away and the swab said no bv.

I had another visit to my new best friend the nurse today and she is stumped. She has sent away swabs for various Sti’s which I’m not sure of.

does anyone have any idea what I can do???? The only thing that has brought me any relief at all is a thin layer of hydrocortisone around the opening. But I can still feel the burning slightly.

please help!!!

Shallow bath with bicarbonate of soda added? Warm water not hot.

SophieJo · 06/12/2022 18:17

Do you have an urge to itch at night? Could be Lichen Sclerosis.

UnderPowered · 06/12/2022 18:18

How old are you OP? Davina McCall's perimenopause / menopause book talks about some things that sound a bit similar.

I’m 37! Is that the right age? No itching really 😭

Awful isn't it- if you are in your 40's could be Vaginal atrophy starting?

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 06/12/2022 18:23

Oh, cross post, bit young for peri menopause symptoms. How about trying a ph balancing gel like Multi-Gyn Acti-Gel? That's pretty good

ThisIsCringe · 06/12/2022 18:24

Will definitely give the bicarb bath a go, I’m willing to try anything!

About 10 years ago, I was diagnosed with Vulvodynia. The symptoms sound very similar to mine. I made a good recovery after being prescribed a low dose of Nortriptyline.

AmberGer · 06/12/2022 18:33

Have you used fragranced toilet tissue? Only asking as this happens to me when I do.

BellaPoldark · 06/12/2022 18:38

I would second the suggestion to look into unprovoked vulvodynia as a possible cause. I believe a course of antibiotics or infection can be a trigger for symptoms to start.

Lolacat1234 · 06/12/2022 18:41

I had vulvodynia in my early 20s which was brought on by a round of antibiotics for bv, I think in the end it was actually systemic thrush after repeated rounds of antibiotics. Coconut oil is really very good for soothing and it's anti fungal too so if it is thrushy down there it will help. It's also antibacterial and just generally really good for your skin x

Gingerangel · 06/12/2022 18:50

Could it be an allergy to canesten? I had this and the burning was worse than the initial thrush infection. I used coconut oil on the vulva to soothe the burning king and poured a bottle of water over my fanny whenever I needed to pee. After about a week it cleared up.

Gingerangel · 06/12/2022 18:51

Feeling not king 🤣 bloody autocorrect

ThisIsCringe · 06/12/2022 18:52

The symptoms started before any antibiotics so I’m unsure on vulvodynia. Willing to read up on it though!

Funny the fragranced toilet paper was brought up! I thought that’s what kickstarted this whole thing, DH bought some ridiculously strong scented paper right around when this began but you would think it would have calmed down after a month!! Vag doesn’t look inflamed though 🤔

👀 vaginally atrophy? I didn't know such a thing existed?? Away to google....

SenseiOfDuty · 06/12/2022 18:57

I had a UTI and thrush at the same time after a dodgy hotel swimming pool and ended up at out of hours. The GP prescribed lidocaine cream and oh my lord it helped. Took about 10 sec of a warm burning pain then it kicked in.

Lidocaine. Bloody saved me from insanity

ThisIsCringe · 06/12/2022 18:58

Where does one procure lidocaine from? 😂

Allergy ?
Retailed tampon ?

StepAwayFromGoogling · 06/12/2022 19:04

Unlikely OP's new best friend the vag nurse would have missed a retained tampon.

Blowyourowntrumpet · 06/12/2022 19:04

I had this and sudocrem really helped

dragonfly16 · 06/12/2022 19:05

This Dr. Wolff´s Vagisan Moisturising Cream | Hormone Free Vaginal Moisturiser for Vaginal Dryness | Intimate Cream for Daily Vaginal Health | 1x 50g amzn.eu/d/7Qsn2ZL

Saturdaydreamingway2355555 · 06/12/2022 19:06

Sudocream helps with literally anything down there….. it’s soothes, or try a baby nappy rash cream such as metanium?

rainbowhairchalk · 06/12/2022 19:06

Bicarbonate of soda and lemon juice should neutralise your wee at least so it hurts less

ThisIsCringe · 06/12/2022 19:06

Yes new bestie the vag nurse has been all up in there twice 😭 no tampons!

haven’t tried sudocrem or a vag moisturiser 🤔
