Hi all, I’ve obviously name changed due to the content of the thread 😭

I thought I had a UTI about a month ago and was given three days worth of tablets from the pharmacy. Seemed better for a couple of weeks then my symptoms returned. I have a burning feeling down below that’s there most of the time but especially when I have to pee.

since then I’ve been back and forwards to the nurse eleventy billion times, we’ve tried thrush treatment, bv treatment, cystitis sachets. I’ve had a smear in the middle of it all and it came back fine. They’ve checked my bloods for diabetes and swabbed me for thrush and bv. During my swab for bv the speculum showed green discharge and the nurse was sure it must be bv but a weeks worth of antibiotics later and it’s still merrily burning away and the swab said no bv.

I had another visit to my new best friend the nurse today and she is stumped. She has sent away swabs for various Sti’s which I’m not sure of.

does anyone have any idea what I can do???? The only thing that has brought me any relief at all is a thin layer of hydrocortisone around the opening. But I can still feel the burning slightly.

please help!!!

Get some Canesten for bacterial vaginosis , the fragranced tissue has probably started it off. You put a pessary in every evening for a week and it will disappear.
Try not to used fragranced products in that area anymore. X

We used to use Aloe Vera toilet paper. After Mitch itching and discomfort I realised it may be toilet paper. Turns out I’m allergic to Aloe Vera. It’s related to latex and I have a very fierce latex allergy.
Im now post menopausal and taking hormone blocking drugs. I treat supa dry vag with Hyalofemme, who knew that anti aging creams work on the vag It’s brilliant. Even my gyni commented on how healthy it looked when she was removing my Mirena coil.
It’s not greasy and since it is acidic it maintains a slightly low ph required for healthy vag.

Not sure what to suggest but vagisil does contain lidocaine and definitely will help numb the area. Also live plain yoghurt in fridge and just slap it all over - super soothing.

I've used these for thrush in the past and they've really helped with the burning and pain.

jayhoo · 06/12/2022 23:03

Are you still having sex with she?

Doyoumind · 06/12/2022 23:03

Sounds horrible. I know metanium and sudocrem have both been mentioned but I recommend bepanthen instead. As it's nappy rash cream it soothes and is a barrier. I always use it if I get itchy or sore around my vulva. Hope you get to the bottom (no pun intended) of it soon.

jayhoo · 06/12/2022 23:05

Doh, dh

FatEaredFuck · 06/12/2022 23:09

Try some piriton and change your washing powder too

I appreciate leaving it alone may be more helpful! It’s just so stingy. I don’t have bv though so not Sure the balance activ stuff would suit me.

the burning king 😂😂😂

I'd say please don't try that if you don't have BV. I decided to give it a whirl despite BV swab being negative and holy fuck was I in a works of pain. Fired some probiotics up there and had an Epsom salt bath which kinda helped but I'll never forget that.

That's leading me to think that I might have the lactic acidosis producing super foof condition if more lactic acids made me burn faster than guy falkes. I need to book in with drs tomorrow but I've just bought the epaderm and a few kgs of bicarb!

Wagsandclaws · 06/12/2022 23:16

I've never had eczema before anywhere but when I thought I had recurrent thrush ( menopause) it wouldn't go.

It's exactly like you describe, stingy and hurts when I wee.

It's in my perenium and was all the way up to my vulva ( outside ) but some steroid cream has helped that a lot.

It's still very stingy on my perenium though so I'm going back as I can't keep using steroid on that area.

Could it be that? My sympathies op it's bloody awful.

Allthemojitos · 06/12/2022 23:20

You may have aerobic vaginitis, nhs don't test for this you would need to get a private swab. Focus or Juno. If it is this you will need to do your own research to advocate for yourself as it is not a well known condition.

thaegumathteth · 06/12/2022 23:22

pursuedbyablackdog · 06/12/2022 22:31

Do you have children or work with children? Thread worms can cause be a cause of a stinging vag.

I was going to suggest this too although presume nurse would've seen them?

Allthemojitos · 06/12/2022 23:25

Also I would check the pH levels of your vagina before using bicarbonate of soda. Aerobic vaginitis may mean your pH is too high in which case bicarbonate of soda won't help and may make things worse.

Sleeplessbuteffective · 06/12/2022 23:29

Both times this has happened to me it’s been a case of having thrush, going to GP for treatment, and them swabbing to check for UTI and prescribing antibiotics in case of UTI as well as thrush treatment. Thrush treatment works but the type of antibiotics really mess with my body and give me similar symptoms to what you’re describing a few days later. UTI results come back clear, I stop taking antibiotics and it generally clears itself up. Totally infuriating and apparently it’s quite rare to have this sort of reaction my GP said… 🤷🏼‍♀️

BelgiumArse · 07/12/2022 03:43

If all comes back clear have a read up on pudendal nueralgia.

Zodiacsigns · 07/12/2022 04:32

The opening of my vagina just feels so burny and hot. I feel like I could fan myself down there

Ice cube? Hope you can get it fixed soon OP, sounds awful

ThisIsCringe · 07/12/2022 08:27

Thanks for all your thoughts overnight. I do indeed work with children but I would have thought there would have been other symptoms to worms! Must look into it.

How do you test your vaginas ph? Can anyone recommend a kit?

it seems to be a little calmer today, not sure if it’s the bicarb bath, sudocrem or just my brain 🙄 I await my sti results 😭

Omg whoever recommended coconut oil thank you ! First night without burning sensation down there

Divebar2021 · 07/12/2022 08:55

I don’t think you should be fiddling around with a load of medications other than the natural products like yoghurt etc ( which I know can be soothing) Where was this nurse of yours ? Is she at a GP or a sexual health clinic? At this stage I would abandon the GPS and head of to a GU clinic because as lovely as the GPS are they’re obviously not identifying the problem.

Allthemojitos · 07/12/2022 09:02

You can order ph testing strips from my vagina.

Oh my god this has really made me laugh! I take it you mean a website called ‘my vagina’ rather than your actual genitalia 😂

I had these symptoms and am now sure I had cytolytic vaginosis.
I started with uti symptoms and had a round of antibiotics, ate loads of biolive yoghurt of course.
Symptoms came back with a vengeance and nurse was convinced was thrush, did the course and thought I was feeling better but as soon as it stopped they came back even worse.

The Canesten I found out eventually was actually making things more sore.. When I stopped I felt a little better including with the hydrocortisone...if I washed with soap or anything it itched like mad so I only gently bathed the area with plain water.
Because I was putting all this stuff on my fanjo I got a major case of eczema down there.. Also noticed a strange coincidence when I ate the Bio live yoghurt my symptoms got worse.
They went away of their own accord but guess what.. When I ate the biolive yoghurt again a couple months later they suddenly came back!
Also ditto putting yoghurt on my vag made things hell.
So cytolytic vaginosis can be a case of too much lactobacilli in your vagina but it mimics symptoms of thrush.

What helped me - optibac vaginal flora tablets you can get on amazon.
Just leave your vagina alone, gently wash with plain water don't spray the thing and warm baths.. Sodium bicarb baths are supposed to help.
Ditching the antibiotics - they mess your gut and flora up even more.
I hope they find out what it is, I had this thing on and off for about 6 months it was a misery.

ThisIsCringe · 07/12/2022 09:16

The nurse was in the GPS office. I’m currently on hold to the sexual health clinic trying to book an appointment. Starting to feel the burn again 😭 I don’t know how much longer I can take this, it’s hell

Awful isn't it- if you are in your 40's could be Vaginal atrophy starting?

I got vaginal atrophy from the hormonal changes after birth and during BF!
