Hi all, I’ve obviously name changed due to the content of the thread 😭

I thought I had a UTI about a month ago and was given three days worth of tablets from the pharmacy. Seemed better for a couple of weeks then my symptoms returned. I have a burning feeling down below that’s there most of the time but especially when I have to pee.

since then I’ve been back and forwards to the nurse eleventy billion times, we’ve tried thrush treatment, bv treatment, cystitis sachets. I’ve had a smear in the middle of it all and it came back fine. They’ve checked my bloods for diabetes and swabbed me for thrush and bv. During my swab for bv the speculum showed green discharge and the nurse was sure it must be bv but a weeks worth of antibiotics later and it’s still merrily burning away and the swab said no bv.

I had another visit to my new best friend the nurse today and she is stumped. She has sent away swabs for various Sti’s which I’m not sure of.

does anyone have any idea what I can do???? The only thing that has brought me any relief at all is a thin layer of hydrocortisone around the opening. But I can still feel the burning slightly.

please help!!!

Trichomoniasis can cause those symptoms. It is not routinely screened for with STI testing. Ask the clinic to test for it.

Take regular pain relief in the mean time. Lots of fluids and cystitis sachets to make your pee sting less.

Hope you find some relief.

I've had this a few times, with negative results for everything and the only thing that cured it was having my period

marriedthegambler · 10/12/2022 23:35

I def feel better on my period.

The bicarb seems to be helping alongside sudocreme. First time in months I've had relief. Even if it's only for a few days I'm very grateful to this thread and the OP!

Haven’t read every page, but has anyone mentioned interstitial cystitis?

Mine became symptomatic from a uti. It feels like one constantly.

Allthemojitos · 11/12/2022 09:00

@Oucht IC just means painful bladder. There is a school of thought that IC doesn't exist and is just a embedded uti. I was diagnosed with IC but after having treatment for an embedded infection am symptoms free. Check out Prof Malone-Lee.

Oucht · 11/12/2022 11:17

Thanks. Was it extra long courses of antibiotics you had for the embedded infection?
My bladder bleeds all the time and is heavily scarred externally from 16 abdominal surgeries. It’s no longer a soft balloon that stretches but more like a hard walnut where it’s failing.

Allthemojitos · 11/12/2022 13:57

Yes long term antibiotics with hiprex. Antibiotics were for 6 six just coming off them now and if I remain symptom free I will be coming of hiprex in 3 months time.

marriedthegambler · 16/12/2022 13:41

Just wanted to say thank you. I don't know if it's bicarb baths or the flora pills but something has made me feel normal for the first time in 6 months!!!

Oh I’m glad you are feeling better. Must be a Christmas miracle because so am I!! My appointment on Tuesday resulted in another examination where the dr told me I had some cracked skin inside 😮 She seems to think I had an original case of thrush which I’ve treated and cleared while simultaneously missing this patch. A few days of a combo hydrocortisone and clotramazole seems to be doing the trick. I can’t believe how much it has been dragging me down. Fingers crossed this thread helps someone and sending cooling vag vibes to my fellow sufferers

Hurray, I'm glad everyone is getting some relief 😅.

marriedthegambler · 16/12/2022 23:08

That's great news. They gave me all the thrush stuff and 4 weeks of orals but none of that helped and also thrust swabs were clear so I'm not convinced it was that.

I'm still going to go to my appointment to debrief and see if they can figure it out and have a plan incase it happens again.

SpaceHeater · 17/12/2022 00:31

I'm glad to see you've found some relief. Some good advice on this thread as well, thanks!
I recently developed a lot of allergies, including most fragrance ingredients both natural and synthetic. I have to avoid any fragrance at all in laundry or personal care products as I was getting contact dermatitis all over my body. It took me a long time to realise how it was also impacting my vulva.
Trying to avoid fragrance in personal care products is ridiculously difficult, especially when products like vagisil, sanitary towels and "sensitive/unfragranced" skincare contain fragrance ingredients. I'm even allergic to the lavender in sudocreme. Strong fragrance on other people, vapes etc can trigger my asthma and stabbing vulva pain. Life is definitely more pleasant without highly fragranced knickers. I had no idea how many weird symptoms were down to allergies and how hard it would be to avoid.

Hi. I know this is a very old threat, but I'm going through something similar. Wondering whether you can tell me whether the clomitrozole was the Canesten vaginal one? And what was the hydrocortisone one? Was that just for the external symptoms? Thanks so much

coldcallerbaiter · 01/11/2023 19:06

Glad you found a cause, otherwise I was going to say Trich as that has green gunk
