Hi all, I’ve obviously name changed due to the content of the thread 😭

I thought I had a UTI about a month ago and was given three days worth of tablets from the pharmacy. Seemed better for a couple of weeks then my symptoms returned. I have a burning feeling down below that’s there most of the time but especially when I have to pee.

since then I’ve been back and forwards to the nurse eleventy billion times, we’ve tried thrush treatment, bv treatment, cystitis sachets. I’ve had a smear in the middle of it all and it came back fine. They’ve checked my bloods for diabetes and swabbed me for thrush and bv. During my swab for bv the speculum showed green discharge and the nurse was sure it must be bv but a weeks worth of antibiotics later and it’s still merrily burning away and the swab said no bv.

I had another visit to my new best friend the nurse today and she is stumped. She has sent away swabs for various Sti’s which I’m not sure of.

does anyone have any idea what I can do???? The only thing that has brought me any relief at all is a thin layer of hydrocortisone around the opening. But I can still feel the burning slightly.

please help!!!

👀 vaginally atrophy? I didn't know such a thing existed?? Away to google....

Oh you are in for a real treat! It's a post-menopause special!!

ThisIsCringe · 06/12/2022 19:21

Ok good news, I have found bicarb in the kitchen cupboard. Currently running a bath. Pray for me 😭

I suffered for years with burning and itching. Spent a fortune on thrush treatment but kept coming back. In the end I tried probiotics - after a week of taking itching and burning stopped. So May be worth trying - especially if taken anti-biotics which can upset natural bacteria

See I read about the suggestion of probiotics online but what I couldn’t work out are they the little bottles of yoghurt? Actimel or what have you or actual tablets? If so which ones??

OP pls update as I have this exact situation and I am in hell. My labia has split from how sore it has been with the burning and it went dry and inflamed. My fanny recoils if I piss

ThisIsCringe · 06/12/2022 19:35

Jesus Christ nokisoc! I will update fear not! I’ve read too many threads about similar and no one has ever updated to say what it was, just waltzed with their non burning fanny into the distance 😭

yours sounds much worse than mine and potentially like that lichen scoliosis or whatever is!!

Have you changed or used anything new recently? Laundry liquid or powder, fabric conditioner, shower gel, soap, have you used bubble bath? I cannot even shampoo my hair in a bath as I’ll get thrush like symptoms.

Moneymonkey · 06/12/2022 19:39

I had similar to this about a month ago; but without any discharge. The Dr tested for BV, chlamydia; and Thrush - all negative.
What was positive though was group B Strep (yep; similar to strep throat). I had to be on penicillin 4x a day for a week but it cleared up.
Ask the nurse to test for group b strep?

ThisIsCringe · 06/12/2022 19:43

I haven’t changed to anything new no 🤔 apart from the toilet paper but you would think it would be ok a month later.

never heard of group b strep, I’ll add it to my list of questions for the dr next week now my new best friend has washed her hands of me. Well…barring the sti results 😮

Any white clumpy discharge that looks like toilet paper? If so look up cytolytic vaginosis.

Sorry if I've missed this but have you had sti tests?

ThisIsCringe · 06/12/2022 19:50

There is a bit of discharge but it looks greenish yellow to me.

waiting on my sti results. Swab was taken today

Still could be worth a look. I used to suffer with it and treating for BV can make it worse. Bicarb bath will help.

Brechdanjamcaws · 06/12/2022 19:53

Always changed their pads about a decade ago and caused me the most severe burning in /around my cabins and vulva. Bright red, cracked skin. Not sure what they changed but I switched to cotton natural pads, problem solved. Is something irritating the skin down there?

primeoflife · 06/12/2022 19:54

With probiotics make sure you get tablets not just actimel as it's practically useless!

ThisIsCringe · 06/12/2022 19:55

Adding cytolytic vaginosis to my list for the dr, thank you

It definitely feels irritated but nurse says does not look it.

I had this! All sorts of tests and it showed group b strep off the scale

Muniononion · 06/12/2022 20:06

i had cytolytic vaginosis for many years. Was agony. Often my discharge looked like wet toilet paper. Exacerbated by probiotics! Solved by bicarbonate of soda.

ThisIsCringe · 06/12/2022 20:26

Not wet toilet paper discharge here. More like yellow green snot (sorry!)

im absolutely miserable with this

Have you been tested for ureaplasma?

ThisIsCringe · 06/12/2022 20:44

I don’t think I’ve been tested for ureaplasma. She did say when she was reading back the results from last weeks swabs that there were no pathogens detected 🤷‍♀️

vitaminC · 06/12/2022 20:54

Have they done a urine culture?
What did that show?

I used tablets from “Garden of Life’. I expect other brands also good..

Ssmiler · 06/12/2022 20:56

I had this on and off from age 36 and finally got it completely resolved by age 50!

What worked / works for me

  1. as others have said bicarbonate baths - not too hot
  2. vagifem pessaries -from GP they are hormone pessaries and are brilliant
  3. use natural liners in pants - in case you have irritation from washing powder or fabric in pants
  4. stay very hydrated - way more hydrated than you think you need to be - it not only prevents the urinary symptoms but it also prevents the vaginal discomfort or pain
  5. a low dose daily maintenance tablet of macrodantin anti biotic from GP - which prevents the urinary flare ups and symptoms
  6. And finally but VERY importantly I use epaderm ointment - not cream, ointment. It’s on Amazon. It has Vaseline consistency and acts as both a barrier, a soother and an anti itch cream. It’s fab
I hope this is helpful - I’m a new woman since I discovered all this

good luck

ThisIsCringe · 06/12/2022 20:56

urine was clear of infection they said.

The opening of my vagina just feels so burny and hot. I feel like I could fan myself down there 😭

Matchingcollarandcuffs · 06/12/2022 20:57

When I had green discharge in pregnancy the hospital got me tested by the STI clinic as they could test for a much wider range of things than the GP could.

I really hope you get some relief soon, I’ve got thrush from antibiotics sh the moment and the only thing giving me relief is regularly washing
