Hi all, I’ve obviously name changed due to the content of the thread 😭

I thought I had a UTI about a month ago and was given three days worth of tablets from the pharmacy. Seemed better for a couple of weeks then my symptoms returned. I have a burning feeling down below that’s there most of the time but especially when I have to pee.

since then I’ve been back and forwards to the nurse eleventy billion times, we’ve tried thrush treatment, bv treatment, cystitis sachets. I’ve had a smear in the middle of it all and it came back fine. They’ve checked my bloods for diabetes and swabbed me for thrush and bv. During my swab for bv the speculum showed green discharge and the nurse was sure it must be bv but a weeks worth of antibiotics later and it’s still merrily burning away and the swab said no bv.

I had another visit to my new best friend the nurse today and she is stumped. She has sent away swabs for various Sti’s which I’m not sure of.

does anyone have any idea what I can do???? The only thing that has brought me any relief at all is a thin layer of hydrocortisone around the opening. But I can still feel the burning slightly.

please help!!!

Also there is the Killing bv support group you can join on Facebook. It is not just for BV but for all vaginitis I have found there support invaluable.

The nurse was in the GPS office. I’m currently on hold to the sexual health clinic trying to book an appointment. Starting to feel the burn again 😭 I don’t know how much longer I can take this, it’s hell

There's an online website called SH:24 that send out free tests for chlamydia and gonorrhoea, you send it back in the post and get a text or call in about 2-5 days, really helpful if you can't get an appointment. Worth checking if you can use the company in your area.

ThisIsCringe · 07/12/2022 09:56

I have got an appointment with the sexual health clinic! But not till next Wednesday. I’ll have to wait it out till next week then dr and clinic two days in a row. Surely someone will be able to help!

Definitely grab a tube of lidocaine from the chemists - I know I said it earlier but it really did help me when I was in tears at ooh won't solve the problem but it will give relief (and actually it did feel like it gave everything time to work it out and heal without me needing to try to relieve the pain every few minutes with different creams, baths etc)

TheArtfulStodger · 07/12/2022 09:58

I've got burning vadge again, because ive been trying to treat the sorest perianal irritation ever (never had it like that so far out from the actual anus before) and kept getting the anusol on my vulva.

I get it like you describe, from using scented sanpro or scented bog roll. Also from chronic thrush (I'm diabetic). Nothing ever works and canesten just worsens the burn.

Leaves me washing it with cold water and unscented soap (outside) and lying legs akimbo, as the tears create tiny rivers down my fragile emotional state.

redtulip12 · 07/12/2022 10:10

It sounds very much like vulvodynia. Does it hurt to touch or is it just there all the time? Vulvodynia is a type of neuralgia so needs specific medication to treat. They do work but generally need taking long term. I would also ask about using an oestrogen cream/pessary.

MrsPnut · 07/12/2022 10:33

I would get vagisil medicated cream to begin with, it has 2% lidocaine in it but ask the GP for 4% lidocaine cream (it's not the best but 5% ointment has manufacturing issues until at least end of March 23). It's much easier to carry on when you aren't frightened to pee or sit down because of the pain.

I'd also ask for estriol cream because sometimes your genital skin can't heal if the oestrogen level is low.

Poor thing op. Have a hug from me.

Good luck! My next appointment is 16th January. I may have ripped my own vag out by then!!

Oh my god! That’s ridiculous! Do you mind me asking if you are in England? That’s a loooong wait!

Friend of mine bought herself one of those shower water filters with vitamin E and can't use it, as started having problems 'there'.

No, in Scotland.

I could have got a quicker appointment with another dr but wanted a specific one. I've seen one of them twice and don't rate her and then saw this one who I liked. I really draw the line and sending another one up there 😂

I had these symptoms and am now sure I had cytolytic vaginosis.
I started with uti symptoms and had a round of antibiotics, ate loads of biolive yoghurt of course.
Symptoms came back with a vengeance and nurse was convinced was thrush, did the course and thought I was feeling better but as soon as it stopped they came back even worse.

The Canesten I found out eventually was actually making things more sore.. When I stopped I felt a little better including with the hydrocortisone...if I washed with soap or anything it itched like mad so I only gently bathed the area with plain water.
Because I was putting all this stuff on my fanjo I got a major case of eczema down there.. Also noticed a strange coincidence when I ate the Bio live yoghurt my symptoms got worse.
They went away of their own accord but guess what.. When I ate the biolive yoghurt again a couple months later they suddenly came back!
Also ditto putting yoghurt on my vag made things hell.
So cytolytic vaginosis can be a case of too much lactobacilli in your vagina but it mimics symptoms of thrush.

What helped me - optibac vaginal flora tablets you can get on amazon.
Just leave your vagina alone, gently wash with plain water don't spray the thing and warm baths.. Sodium bicarb baths are supposed to help.
Ditching the antibiotics - they mess your gut and flora up even more.
I hope they find out what it is, I had this thing on and off for about 6 months it was a misery.

Is it these ones? There's so many to choose from! I've recently spent a shit tonne of money on the vag so I don't want to spend more unnecessarily.

@wibblewobbleball interesting! How was your vaginal atrophy diagnosed and what treatment did you have? Oestrogen cream/pessary?

Nat6999 · 07/12/2022 20:45

Try Vagisil,it has local anaesthetic in it, it is the only thing that numbs the itching & pain if I get thrush until the treatment works.

ThisIsCringe · 08/12/2022 16:48

Chlamydia and gonorrhoea tests came back clear today 👀 so that’s a relief. Still no idea what it is although it seems to have calmed down a little 🤷‍♀️ Dr and sexual health clinic next week. I’m going to keep updating as whilst I’m sure you are all on the edge of your seats (burning vags’ permitting) ;-) I read a lot of these threads when I was early on and no one ever bloody updated to say what was wrong. Fingers crossed I’ll get some resolution

Burning Vag sounds like an annual festival for those with glorious clams to come and share horror stories of their nether regions.

In all seriousness, I hope you find some relief soon. There's not much worse than when yer minge is aflame.

marriedthegambler · 08/12/2022 21:28

That's good news they are clear!

I'm about to try the bicarb bath. I've bought the pills and waiting on.

How much bicarb in the bath?

As much as I hate people are suffering I'm so glad for this thread as I was thinking I was alone and no one had ever had hell fire fanny before!!

I initially saw a GP who gave me endless rounds of antibiotics and steroid creams until I insisted he seek advice and guidance from a gynae consult (this was during lockdown so the chances of me getting to see one were slim!). The gynae recommended Ovestin which I used daily and then reduced gradually down to about twice a week until my DD was about a year old when I was able to stop using completely although I BF for another 9 months after I stopped with no issues.

ThisIsCringe · 08/12/2022 21:34

😂 I know the feeling! I used a quarter cup of bicarb but it didn’t do much for me. I’m beginning to suspect herpes, what with the burning, struggling to pee, discharge and tingly feeling from time to time . I know many in my family are prone to the herpes virus. I’m just unsure whether you can have them inside your vag only and how they diagnose them if you can’t see them!

I thought they'd be able to see that?! Maybe not though.

I had my hormone levels checked as initially thought it was peri. They didn't tell me what they were just said in normal limits.

I def think mine is 2 fold. Whatever's going on in there and now really sensitive skin outside from all the lotions and potions they've thrown at me. 😭 as sore as I am I'm much more used to it now.

ThisIsCringe · 08/12/2022 22:24

I suppose my bestie nurse friend should have seen it 🤔 I’m going to specifically mention it to the dr and see what she says.

Aww those lotions and potions don’t help do they? I feel like hydrocortisone is the only thing that helps me but that’s not a long term solution.

at least you’re not in menopause!!! Yet! 😂

CannonCaboodle · 09/12/2022 00:41

I would get tested for ureaplasma. You can get kits to test for it off the internet. It doesn’t typically show up in urine cultures - you need a urine PCR to test.
good luck OP. I hope the burning gets less.

I feel like hydrocortisone would help but it's the one thing they haven't given me. Do you mind posting the details of the one you have with strength? I have a few in the house but reluctant to stick it down there incase I make matters worse!

I'm writing every condition and swab test down that people have written on here and hand it to the dr.

Night time is a dream, lying down I seem to feel ok!

ThisIsCringe · 10/12/2022 18:43

Sorry it’s 1% hydrocortisone I’ve used, only once or twice a day. Hope it gives you some relief 😭
