Sitting here watching Carols from Kings. Wishing all on this thread, their families and guests a peaceful and safe Christmas.

My thoughts too will be with those spending it in darkness and cold tomorrow - in Ukraine and elsewhere.

MissConductUS · 24/12/2022 20:29

Merry Christmas to all, and may Ukraine find peace in the new year by the rigorous application of kinetic weaponry.

Hillsmakeyoustrong · 24/12/2022 20:40

Merry Christmas to all of you and may Peace prevail in 2023.

blueshoes · 24/12/2022 20:44

Natsku · 24/12/2022 20:54

Merry Christmas everyone. I hope its as peaceful as it can be.

ScrollingLeaves · 24/12/2022 21:09

Happy Christmas to you all. Without this thread during this past year and everyone’s thoughtful and insightful contributions I’d have had no hope of really beginning to understand what has been happening in Ukraine, or the feeling of a will for them to prevail.

Greenshake · 24/12/2022 21:32

I second what Scrollingsaid. This thread has given me so much and I am very grateful to all of you. Thank you, Merry Christmas and Slava Ukraini ❀️

DesdamonasHandkerchief · 24/12/2022 21:41

Happy Christmas all, seconding @MissConductUS 's wishes about kinetic weopons and may peace come to Ukraine and to all war zones soon. And peace to everyone on this thread.

Alighttouchonthetiller · 25/12/2022 00:03

A peaceful Christmas to all, and a heartfelt thank you to all who post to provide information, updates and calming good sense. You have got many of us easily frightened folk through the last year. You are all very much appreciated. (Especially the ducks.)

dibly · 25/12/2022 00:25

Merry Christmas everyone, I’m not a big poster but follow this thread avidly and really grateful for the analysis and updates. Preying that tomorrow is a little easier for Ukraine and that peace is not too far away.

TheABC · 25/12/2022 01:16

Another one with thanks, goodwill and the hope that 2023 will see peace in Ukraine.

Merry Christmas everyone.

notimagain · 25/12/2022 08:37

Merry Christmas to all from me and a get well soon to those feeling under the weather.

Hoping for peace in Ukraine sooner rather than later than in 2023.

ISW Key Takeaways

Russian forces will likely struggle to maintain the pace of their offensive operations in the Bakhmut area and may seek to initiate a tactical or operational pause.

Russian siloviki may be setting information conditions to justify the nationalization of oligarchs' resources to sponsor Russia’s war effort.

Ukrainian intelligence continues to suggest that the Russian military is not following proper command structures or procedures.

Russian forces continued to conduct limited counterattacks to regain lost positions along the Kreminna-Svatove line.

Russian forces continued to conduct offensive operations around Bakhmut and Avdiivka.

Russian SPETSNAZ are likely reconnoitering the Dnipro River delta to study Ukrainian defenses in right bank Kherson Oblast.

Russian forces struck a residential area of Kherson City with a Grad multiple launch rocket system, killing at least 10 and injuring 55.

The Russian Orthodox Church β€” a Kremlin-affiliated institution β€” asked the Kremlin for a mobilization exemption for its clergy, despite avidly supporting Russian President Vladimir Putin’s war in Ukraine.

Russian officials are planning to take children from Horlivka, Donetsk to Belarus, possibly as a scheme to deport Ukrainian children.

ISW introduced a new section in the update to track daily observed indicators and counter-indicators consistent with the current assessed most dangerous course of action – a Russian invasion of Ukraine from Belarus.

Facing blackouts and Iranian-made drones, Ukrainian Jews urge Israel to help
(www.washingtonpost.com/us-policy/2022/12/18/ukraine-israel-iran-russia-weapons/?utm_campaign=wp_main&utm_medium=social&utm_source=telegram)KYIV, Ukraine β€” When Russia invaded Ukraine, the homeland of his parents and grandparents, David felt obligated to leave Israel and fight against President Vladimir Putin, the man he views as a modern Hitler.
After praying on a recent Shabbat in Kyiv’s oldest synagogue, David, 56, said he was proud to have spent most of the past nine months on the front lines, where he took fire from artillery and drones while fighting in Ukraine’s eastern offensive in Kharkiv.
But he fumed when asked about Israel, his home for more than two decades, and about its limited support for Ukraine β€” a stance that seems increasingly odd given the deepening alliance between Russia and Iran, whose leaders have repeatedly called for Israel’s destruction and are supporting Moscow’s war effort by supplying drones and missiles.

Zelenskyy Telegram Speech

Merry Christmas to Western Rite Orthodox Christians!

Today and all future winter holidays we meet in difficult circumstances. Someone will see the first star in the sky over Bakhmut, Rubizhne, and Kreminna today. Someone will celebrate the holiday in other people's homes, but strange people's homes – homes of Ukrainians who gave shelter to Ukrainians. Someone will hear Shchedryk in another language - in Warsaw, Berlin, London, New York, Toronto and many other cities and countries. And someone will meet this Christmas in captivity, but let them remember that we are also coming for our people, we will return freedom to all Ukrainian men and women.

Wherever we are, we will be together today. We make a wish. One for all. And we will feel joy. One for all. And we will understand the truth. One for all.

We will celebrate our holidays! As always. We will smile and be happy. As always. The difference is one. We will not wait for a miracle. After all, we create it ourselves.

Christ is born! Let's praise Him!

[Wishing as much peace as is possible to the men and women on the front lines, and hold the people of Ukraine without water and heat in mind this Christmas.

And in all this the West has pulled together to support Ukraine and the goodness of human nature has poured out towards the people suffering, especially perhaps in Mariupol]

@ReleaseTheDucksOfWar thank you for the recent pic of the ducklings - they are adorable and so big. Love their fluffy bums. What are their names?

ReleaseTheDucksOfWar · 25/12/2022 12:23

George-Lucy Webster (impressive isn't it?) who's almost certainly a male, the boldest of them and most wilful. Jack, also a male, who's the wildest and least trusting (the cat tried to make off with him twice when he was a duckling) and Psyduck, who's female and the most trusting and inquisitive. If I sit in their pen, Psyduck and George-Lucy come and sit and fall asleep at my feet, Jack a little bit further off. Their feathers are glossy and very smooth to stroke, when they let me, and they nibble my fingers when I feed them which is apparently a sign of affection.

ISW Key Takeaways

Thank you so much for all these key takeaways you have posted all year, β€˜ReleaseTheDucks*, and for even managing on Christmas Day, and including Zelensky’s message.

Your ducks sound lovely and it is nice to know their characters and names. Happy first Christmas to them. I shall think of them joining the other animals in the stable, near the manger.

L1ttledrummergirl · 25/12/2022 20:02

Thank you for the updates and the ducks pictures. Merry Christmas to you all.

RedToothBrush · 25/12/2022 23:57

Merry Christmas.

Rumours tonight are that there is something afoot around Kremmina. Namely that the Ukrainians have broken through front lines in the area and a full scale assault on Kremmina is now in progress.

This seems to be coming from Russian sources with Ukrainian locals making noise about widespread looting from Russians going on - similar to just before they pulled out of other areas.

HOWEVER military bloggers on twitter are, at this stage, cautious about the rumours and are stressing that there isn't any evidence to back these claims up. There seems to be significant skepticism about it right now.

No ideas how this will develop, if indeed it does at all. However there seems to be a ressonance from both Ukrainian and Russian sources which is what you'd expect if something WAS happening, so crossing fingers its some genuine, significant movement.

ScrollingLeaves · 26/12/2022 00:01

Merry Christmas, RTB. Thank you for that latest news.
