Adult disability payment

Looking for advice on this benefit.
I applied for this just over 2 months ago, I sent 3 forms of proof of illness and had a video call appointment to confirm identity.
I called social security Scotland to check my process of claim and they say it’s awaiting a case manager.
Does anyone know how long I’ll be waiting for a decision?
Seems a very long, drawn out process.

Allyballybee445 · 03/09/2023 19:26

@Lovelyjubbbly Award letter sounds promising I have read a few forums were people who received no points got an award after redetermination so hopefully you will be another one,

Lovelyjubbbly · 03/09/2023 19:44

@Mumabear239 I hope so been a long process and I just don’t think I have the energy for the appeal.

@Allyballybee445 I was really shocked when got 0 points especially when the GP confirmed everything.

Lovelyjubbbly · 05/09/2023 11:01

Some good news I woke up with a back pay from Adp! Very relieved after 9 long month wait including a redetermination

Allyballybee445 · 05/09/2023 11:35

@Lovelyjubbbly That's great news also gives others motivation to go for a redetermination if they get 0 points.
Makes you wonder if they give 0 points in the hope people will just give up as loads of people seem to be awarded on redetermination after getting 0 points,

Lovelyjubbbly · 05/09/2023 11:55

@Allyballybee445 I would totally recommend it I was shocked this morning thinking I was ready to start a process of tribunal!

definitely recommend it 100%
0 points when tried pip then 0 points off ADP 0 points again then redetermination I got awarded I honestly think they must get a bonus or something if they turn people down because there was no way what so ever I should of been turned down especially with what’s wrong with me I was fighting it to get what I deserve it’s a horrible process and feel like there’s no end to getting anything.

So I aas having a fantastic day today. Pain was pretty minimal (3 out of 10, a good day for me!), woke up feeling great about that and after getting the kids (16 month old DS and 14 week old DD) fed and dressed, got them in the battle tank (affectionate name for the tandem buggy lol) and went for an hour long walk. Was feeling fabulous. Then I get home to this on the doormat. Back to feeling like absolute crap again it is 😞

(Backstory - I first applied in November, was rejected and I sent a redetermination thing in, then got this this morning)

@Seryse

That is shocking basically they are saying we did not do our job within the time line so you now have to go through the appeals process.
As if the waiting is not bad enough
The letter is so abrasive as well no apology or reasoning for them missing the dead line
I wonder how often this happens as there is so little information about the process online I thought they would either say yes or no when doing a re-determination not a we couldn't decide.
I think I would have had a melt down if I had received that.

That's what threw me, them not making a decision is bad enough but the letter just felt like a bigger kick in the teeth. And now I have the fun time of a tribunal which absolutely terrifies me. And they wonder why people's mental is affected so badly by this process...

MamaClause · 19/09/2023 11:09

I applied in April, I havee been checking in with the webchat team on and off and today i was told that the CM put a note on my file yesterday saying that the decision was being finalised and written up. I sent in lots of evidence and i dont think they have contacted my GP as i have recently changed GP to the surgery where i worked for 15 years and have only gone on their books, so from the last time i checked with the webchat team until now, theres no way the GP would have received and certainly replied yet.

what do we think, evidence was enough for an award? or not even bothering to contact the GP and declining it?

any opinions? x

mami2015 · 19/09/2023 12:49

Hello, I'm new here. I would like to ask how long the process was to apply for adult disability and if it was a new application or a review with change of circumstances. I also would like to know if back payment was paid on usual day or if the payday changed.

Not trying to be a knob, and I genuinely hope I'm wrong - but they did the same thing to me. They didn't ask my gp for anything and asked ME to get my medical records from the Gp, then 8 days later after that phone call asking me to get records I got the decline letter 🤣 can't make it up, honestly. Note I sent in 6 reports from 2 different private specialists so I initially thought well maybe they didn't need to see my gp stuff... nope.

I sincerely hope yours is a good outcome and you don't have to go through the shit show im dealing with (scroll up to previous post for a recap). Sending positive thoughts your way, and if it is a decline get the redetermination sent in ASAP (and pray they actually look at yours instead of missing the time frame like they did with me and now I have to go straight to tribunal).

Hello, I'm new here. I would like to ask how long the process was to apply for adult disability and if it was a new application or a review with change of circumstances. I also would like to know if back payment was paid on usual day or if the payday changed.

I applied for ADP in November 2023, got declined 2 months ago after waiting all that time for a decision. Sent my redetermination in straight away and yesterday got a letter saying they didn't get to it in time and I now have to go through the tribunal process cause they missed the deadline. If awarded the money is backdated from when you started the claim.

Rocksdad · 21/09/2023 11:35

Hey. I've been following this thread as I applied in Feb for ADP. The misinformation they supply is ridiculous. The way they treat you is scandalous. I complained. No response. Chased it up and was told "what do you expect, we are busy" and she ended the call. I raised it to level 2.
Got huge letter response saying complaint was upheld and the information they supplied was incorrect. They added things into the complaint outcome that didn't even happen. Like phone calls to me explaining X y and z. Didn't happen. I've got it all recorded and a day by day timeline.
I let that go as was told the award letter was on its way. I then got awarded standard rate living.

I put a redetermination in that day.

I saw the post above with the letter saying they never met the deadline so you can appeal. So I called and asked if that was going to happen to me as I will kick off. Was told it's likely to happen as my claim hasn't been picked up yet. I got mad at her so ended the call and called back to make another official complaint. The guy put me on hold for 10 minutes came back and said Lauren is new. You're claim is now with client experience officer and getting worked on. However they may not get it done by Oct 3rd. So the letter might come out as they go out automatically apparently. But they will still complete the re-determination it may just take longer. However if you take it to appeal all that work gets deleted and the appeal process can start and potentially take up to a year. They don't know.

When I submitted the redetermination on August 8th she told me I wouldn't need to appeal as they are smashing their targets... cut to 6 weeks later and they're not meeting their targets as thousands have requested re-determinations. (Go figure!) They can't say if I will hear within 2 weeks and he couldn't message the client experience officer, which to me sounds like I don't have one as they always say would you like me to message your case manager etc. So theyre all at it. Such a horrible experience. I'm about to contact Georgina Hayes at the BBC as she was reaching out for peoples experiences of ADP. And my experience is they are out their depth. I was told they've no staff and the staff they've got are all new.

mami2015 · 22/09/2023 08:21

Was your adult disability payment application a new claim or review and if yours was a review, did your payment come on a date you usually would get your money or was it a different day?

Rocksdad · 22/09/2023 11:25

It's was a new claim in Feb. Award letter August 4. Haven't heard outcome of the re-determination so I can't answer your question. I still get my standard every 4 weeks.

Allyballybee445 · 25/09/2023 17:57

I am now heading into 35 weeks since claiming apart from one call regarding my supporting information it has been down to me to constantly chase up what is happening with my claim last contact with web chat last week the only information I received was my claim was being processed and I would be contacted if any further information is needed.
They are still advising 4-6 months on the web site which is miss information as most people are waiting a lot longer,
It is not surprising that they are missing the time lines when people ask for a redetermination.

Rocksdad · 28/09/2023 08:11

I spoke to ADP yesterday. I was told to chase up the cost of living payment PIP/ADP got in June £150 (qualifying date April 1st - bloody right I will lol) as my award backdated to Feb. It took hours to get an answer. Punted back and forth from ADP and DWP. over an hour on hold to ADP and the person said "oh yeah it's a tick box. So ive ticked it and you'll get payment in 6 weeks or less"

He also told me my redetermination claim has been worked on since 17th September so 10 days (submitted aug 8th) The person said plenty time to submit more supporting information cos I think it'll be another 2 or 3 weeks yet. How he knows that I dunno but the deadline is Oct 3rd. But I will wait for the outcome however long it takes before appealing if I have to. He said they have unprecedented amounts of new claims and re-determinations and said they just can't get staff. I told the guy they need to employ NVQ/SVQ assessors... cos I know my SVQ assessor would read a 5000 word doc and ping it back in mins with notes. And essentially that's all ADP do. The outcome award letter was literally everything I wrote written back to me. Lol

When I made the re-determination August 8th She said they were smashing their targets. So when I asked Christy why mine is taking longer. He said when I applied they were smashing their targets with a 2-3week turn around but now it's far longer. So I asked if it was 3 weeks when I submitted it, surely, by that logic, it still should've been 3 weeks for me?! Lol so it was kinda said but not said that they've been rushing through them to get the award letters out. And re-determinations were expected. I genuinely think because I complained and raised it to level 2 and my complaint was upheld etc, they rushed my award letter out to shut me up. Or they expect people to accept the first award. Who knows.

Also spoke to my pal yesterday. She did a change of circumstances. Phoned and requested it in march 15th when she was hospitalised and her life changed, they called her back June 22nd to take the application over the phone. And she called yesterday, September 27th for an update and it's still not been assigned to anyone. And everyone knows their "get of of jail free card" so to speak, is the tag line "oh don't worry, you'll get it all backdated no matter how long we take". Bunch of arseholes.
They just need to update their website with all this information and for sure they should be reaching out to us even via an automated text or something. Just to say "it's been assigned today. Please expect to wait 6 weeks before calling" I'd rather have that than nothing. People's lives and mental health have taken a proper kicking and it's unfortunate. Anyways. Wrote to much. Sorry. Have a good day people!

BigBoysDontCry · 28/09/2023 08:45

Sorry to hear about all the delays, my son applied last February and received his award in July, his was held up as they kept phoning him to clarify his bank details without considering that his application was due to his autism and communication issues. He's never going to answer the phone...

Anyway, I got registered on the system as being allowed to communicate on his behalf.

One thing I noted was that he needs to reapply again in 2028. I thought if you had a lifelong condition the award was permanent? Given the complete lack of support for autistic adults, his situation isn't really likely to get better is it?

Rocksdad · 28/09/2023 12:07

They gave me the award for 2 years, but in reality its 18 months to do it all again. And my re-determination I stated it's life long conditions too and 18 months to put someone through all this stress again. And they're response was that it's to make sure we are on the correct level of payment. 🫣🤣 crock of shit. As far as I was led to believe is that the review you can just state no changes and prove how the payment helps. But who knows if that's true. Cos the next time you speak to someone they will tell you something completely different.

So had a surprising phone call this afternoon, they got the forms I sent back after they failed to meet the 56 day deadline to look at the redetermination and asked if I want to go to tribunal or give an extention to the redetermination 🤣 guess that's another 56 day wait I'm doing then... 🤐

Lovelyjubbbly · 28/09/2023 21:11

My award was only for 18 months just received back pay last month and need to review soon again aswell I think award was until July 2024

Rocksdad · 29/09/2023 00:15

Oh dear. That mad. From taking 3 weeks in August to potentially 16 weeks for you now. Sorry about that. Guess I'm next 🤦🏻‍♂️😂
