Adult disability payment

Looking for advice on this benefit.
I applied for this just over 2 months ago, I sent 3 forms of proof of illness and had a video call appointment to confirm identity.
I called social security Scotland to check my process of claim and they say it’s awaiting a case manager.
Does anyone know how long I’ll be waiting for a decision?
Seems a very long, drawn out process.

@Lisalisaandcultjam not everybody gets an ID check I think if you get other benefits from them like child disability or the Scottish child payment they verify you in that way so I wouldn’t worry too much about that, @Mumtotwoxo They won’t tell you what your award is via live chat but will deffo keep you up to date on your progress which is helpful tho they did lie to me and say it was still with a decision maker when actually decision was already made and granted lol, hope you all get the outcome your looking for and if I can be of any other help just ask 😊

Lisalisaandcultjam · 03/01/2023 11:38

@Thatboymum thanks for that. It's reassuring that not everyone gets an ID check. Hopefully we will all hear something very soon from them,x

Mumtotwoxo · 09/01/2023 23:46

@Lisalisaandcultjam any news on your claim? I've still not heard anything. Quite annoying as they can easily decline your application after months of waiting.

Not a thing. I was just thinking of you earlier and wondering the same. It's over 17 weeks now.

NameChange329435 · 10/01/2023 00:13

Ds' child disability payment took 16 weeks to sort it. I phoned them to find out what was happening because it was taking so long. They had made a decision but can't tell you the award over the phone. You need to wait for the letter. Just in case you waste a long time on hold to them.

Mumtotwoxo · 10/01/2023 00:24

@Lisalisaandcultjam I'm on about 16 weeks since I first submitted my application online, I called on Friday and yet again it was still awaiting a decision.
Very frustrating to know you could be waiting all this time just to be declined!

@NameChange329435 hi there! Did they tell you the award had been granted but not what the entitlement was? Anytime I phone they just continue to say it's assuring a decision nothing in regards to it being accepted or not!

@Lisalisaandcultjam I called this morning and they said the letter with the decision has been sent out but they can't tell me over the phone. As far as I'm aware everyone that has received it got their payment before the letter so I don't think I've been lucky!

Don't worry too much at the moment but keep checking the next few days and you may have something there in your account.
I daren't message them again just yet. They did say on 29th December that it was waiting to be handed to a decision maker at that point so who knows.

Lisalisaandcultjam · 10/01/2023 14:06

@Mumtotwoxo I couldn't wait afterall and spoke with someone on webchat. Mine is waiting for a decision and she said all the information looks good and set to go. Hopefully won't be too long to find out now.

Mumtotwoxo · 10/01/2023 14:09

@Lisalisaandcultjam aw that's great it's looking good for them to make a decision on it!! I seen someone say they got their payment weeks before a letter so I am quite concerned I will be declined. My anxiety doesn't help I've called them countless times within the 4 months of waiting to ask for an update!

Thank you. Hope it's good news.
In your case, they may have only just made the decision in which case it can take up to 5 days for the payment to appear after it has been made, that's what I've read elsewhere at least when I was panicking about not hearing anything a couple of weeks ago. You may just find something there in the coming days.

Yes, they said a decision had been made but couldn't tell me over the phone what it was. I had to wait on the letter so I had all the information at once. The back dated payment was in my bank account for nearly a week before I received the awards letter.

Mumtotwoxo · 11/01/2023 01:23

@NameChange329435 do you remember how soon after that phone call you received payment? I was informed today that the decision was made and the letter had been posted out today but couldn't tell me what the decision was.
I am rather worried because most people seem to receive payment first before letter

I phoned on the Monday and payment went in on the Thursday. Then payments have been 4 weekly on a Thursday since. So from them saying they had sent the letter to me receiving it was nearly 2 weeks.

Mumtotwoxo · 11/01/2023 01:31

@NameChange329435 maybe there's hope for me then to still receive payment prior to receiving the letter!
Did you receive the backdated amount from when you first applied? I heard on here a few times that's the case.
It's all a stress and it really is a huge help financially to people each month who do struggle with illness's whether that's mental or physical Sad

Yeah, I would keep checking your bank account. I know applying for other benefits from SSS, their letters take ages to arrive. It was back dated to the date I first applied. It has been a huge help to us. I hope you get the award you need, and it makes things a bit easier.

As far as I'm aware you'll be "requested" to apply for PIP when your child reaches 18. I don't believe Westminster/DWP has any plans to change the process

Hoping things change for the better for you

It’s actually 16 not 18 for transition from DLA to PIP.

silverclock222 · 11/01/2023 04:32

I was 8 weeks after video interview before I got my decision.

Mumtotwoxo · 11/01/2023 08:46

@silverclock222 did you receive payment before your letter?

Lisalisaandcultjam · 11/01/2023 14:41

I had a missed call when I was in the bathroom and it was them and asked me to call back.

Honestly I'm a wreck, I really struggle on the phone and I did tell them that in my form. I called back and waited in a queue for almost an hour. They said it was to ask me to "send all the letters" I have in. I already had said I have nothing as nobody invites me to appointments anymore because they know I am agoraphobic.

They've now said they will need to write to my GP and OT which they've said could take months to sort out. I've already been waiting 11 weeks since the form was completed and it is nearly 18 weeks now since I first applied.

I feel like getting my husband to ring them back and tell them to forget it.

Mumtotwoxo · 11/01/2023 19:18

@Lisalisaandcultjam aww I'm so sorry you had to experience that, some people don't realise how intense it can feel being on a call to someone if they don't experience it themselves.
You should get your husband to quarry as to why they have took so long to ask for these documents? I got a video call ID in November after applying the first part of my application in September.
I do believe they are going through applications with a comb to make sure they have absolute proof of illness before sending an award letter, there is 12 areas within the application you need to pass to be accepted for the payment that's why I'm concerned about my claim because it's just mental health!

Thanks @Mumtotwoxo my husband mentioned about calling them but I don't know if I could take the aggro. I had already put off and put off applying over the years. It's terrible they've left it this long already.

I did also put in my form my husband could speak to what I am like but I can't see them contacting him.
He does all the shopping, all the kids' drop offs, takes them on days out. He used to take them to and from school every day until they could go on their own. The school is about a 2 minute walk away as well. I can count on one hand the times I've made it over there in over 6 years and none of those were a pretty sight.
He has to help me in so many ways, all of which I put in the form - he even had to help me with that.

I've missed family weddings, funerals, my kids' school concerts, my wee boy's first day of school and when my son had to go into hospital I couldn't go with him.

Mumtotwoxo · 12/01/2023 09:15

@Lisalisaandcultjam that is truly awful for you, illness's can take you away from so much enjoyment in life and it's completely out of our control. I missed the first few months on my baby's life because I was struck with pnd/intrusive thoughts and because I already have ocd and anxiety it all hit me so badly.
I've had nothing back from them since my id check that's why I was always checking for updates.
Do you have any contact with your gp and they could possibly speak on your behalf?
