Haven’t been charged for a jumper

I went to TK Maxx this morning and took 4 jumpers and a candle up to the till.

I’ve checked the receipt when I’ve got home and haven’t been charged for one of the jumpers. Do I need to go back?

It was the cheapest jumper I picked up costing £8 - if it was one of the others I would have gone straight back but for £8 I don’t know if it’s worth the hassle.

I definitely took it to the till because the woman serving commented on it being a cute jumper. So for not being my fault do I need to fix it?

Christmas freebie!
enjoy 😊

Of course you should go back! It doesn't matter if it's £8 or £80. If you keep it when you know you haven't paid for it you've as good as stolen it. If it's inconvenient to go back then call the store and they can take payment over the phone.

Magnificentlymediocre · 26/11/2022 13:04

I’d let it go. It’s not like you tried to steal it

dementedpixie · 26/11/2022 13:04

I wouldn't go back
It's their fault not yours

Think of it as buy 3 get 4th free Grin

blebbleb · 26/11/2022 13:06

Yay freebie!

MrsPnut · 26/11/2022 13:06

I wouldn't go back, you tried to pay for all of your items at the till.

I got 2 free chicken Kievs and a jar of beef gravy in my online shop today and the delivery driver told me to keep them or pass them on to someone else.

Letthesunshineonin · 26/11/2022 13:06

I wouldn’t go back. Not your fault.

mac1974 · 26/11/2022 13:06

I wouldn't go back. Enjoy your jumper

CarrieOnStop · 26/11/2022 13:08

I wouldn't go back.

For me it would depend on how handy it is. If it was back to the city centre, that is a 45 min drive, so 1 1/2 hour round trip. So not happening! However, when I worked in the city, I would have popped back the next day.

Witchlight · 26/11/2022 13:09

Ring them up and offer to pay over the phone, so you don’t have travel expenses to correct their mistake.
if they can’t take payment over the phone, offer to pop in when you are next there.

if they don’t want the money and you feel bad about it, buy some extra food for the food bank when you are next at the supermarket.

I used to work in a clothes shop. A mistake like that would have been taken out of my wages.

I guarantee that TKMaxx will not take it out of the employees wages. The £8 loss will not be noticed until the next stocktake and even then it’ll be absorbed into a probably much higher percentage of loss.

DuckWalkedUpToALemonadeStand · 26/11/2022 13:27

I'd email. They'll probably let you keep it, especially at that price. Then your conscience is clear. I'd certainly not be going through the hassle of getting to the shop in person, unless it's on my way anyway.

How would they know whose wages to take it out of? How do the shop know it wasn't shop lifted rather than being a cashier's mistake?

DailyEnergyCrisis · 26/11/2022 13:27

No way would I go back. Enjoy it!

Exactly. And they won't know which staff member it was, either.

RandomUsernameHere · 26/11/2022 13:27

If it was a small independent shop I would definitely go back, but I'm pretty sure TK Maxx can easily absorb the £8 loss.

Rauha · 26/11/2022 13:31

I would email them

ajandjjmum · 26/11/2022 13:39

I bought a few things from Next a few months ago - didn't want to keep a couple of them, so took them back for a refund.

One pair of jeans was not on the receipt. I definitely bought them from that branch at the same time as the other things that were on the receipt. The assistant said she couldn't refund - which was totally fair enough - but the crazy thing was, she could accept them back although technically I had stolen them.

I wouldn't go back for £8, but if it makes you feel better, give them a call.

FirstnameSuesecondnamePerb · 26/11/2022 13:41

Hand on heart, I wouldn't bother.
I'd take it as part of the overall retail gods evening up all those special offers that don't quite make it through the till either.

How would they know who didnt charge for the item in order to take it out their wages?

user44478673 · 26/11/2022 13:49

Having worked in shops for years it probably won't be noticed until the next stocktake. But I'd phone and try to pay and would consider it pretty dishonest not to.

Newpuppymummy · 26/11/2022 13:50

I wouldn’t go back
