Haven’t been charged for a jumper

EatingCoats · 26/11/2022 12:58

I went to TK Maxx this morning and took 4 jumpers and a candle up to the till.

I’ve checked the receipt when I’ve got home and haven’t been charged for one of the jumpers. Do I need to go back?

It was the cheapest jumper I picked up costing £8 - if it was one of the others I would have gone straight back but for £8 I don’t know if it’s worth the hassle.

I definitely took it to the till because the woman serving commented on it being a cute jumper. So for not being my fault do I need to fix it?

I’d leave it. You tried to pay, their mistake. If it were a small independent shop maybe not, but a huge shop like that can take the hit.

Georgyporky · 26/11/2022 16:11

If you take it back, they can identify the member of staff who missed it - could be a lot of trouble for her/him.
I'd say nothing.

IreneJones · 26/11/2022 16:17

@mumof1or2 "Wow. People like you actually exist?!"

What you mean honest people? Yes we do but from this thread it appears there aren't many of us. Fortunately my children know right from wrong and DD recently walked 20 minutes back to McDonalds when she realised they had missed charging her for a milkshake.

starfishmummy · 26/11/2022 16:19

@Random789 there are codes on the labels which give some info about the products -

Somanysocks · 26/11/2022 16:19

Well I suppose this thread shows how dishonest people will be, and then moan when prices go up to cover the losses. You do all know that, right?

BritishDesiGirl · 26/11/2022 16:25

My husband made me take back some bananas that l hadn't been charged for in Aldi. The man looked at me as if l had two heads then said he couldn't accept the return . I kept them .

Your husband MADE you take the bananas back? I’d have kept the bananas and sent the husband back.

GG1986 · 26/11/2022 16:33

I wouldn't go back, this happened to me in primark with some cushions. I didn't realise until I got home, so there was no way I was making another trip to town and pay for parking when it was their mistake. Enjoy your jumper and forget about it.

user19653876 · 26/11/2022 16:35

I wouldn't bother, if it had been a large amount you would have probably noticed at the checkout but £8 wouldn't get noticed if you were buying a few things as you were, it's a bother for you to do for their mistake

AhNowTed · 26/11/2022 16:36

I'm the type that will tell a cashier if they've given me too much change, and no, I wouldn't go back.

user19653876 · 26/11/2022 16:41

TK Maxx must lose loads of money with their poorly packaged online stuff, never mind till mistakes, its nothing to large places like this, these large places have big losses, its like Next that managed to break about £200 worth of homeware they sent me that they had to replace and no one seemed bothered, they don't seem to care.

Mydogatemypurse · 26/11/2022 16:41

I dont think TK maxx will be bothered. If its causing you stress send an e mail.
My friends baby grabbed a very expensive bra in John Lewis and quietly held it until she noticed on the bus home. She rang them and they said keep it.
I was delivered a male version of the perfume i ordered. They sent me the right one out and told me to keep the other. I think they can suck it up if not small business.

This is true. I ordered something for a gift from TK maxx online and the box was battered and it was covered in stickers.

FirstnameSuesecondnamePerb · 26/11/2022 17:10

I would also add, our local TK Maxx makes a jumble sale look like Harrods.
How would they ever miss anything?

PinkButtercups · 26/11/2022 17:10

It could be a £1000 jumper and I wouldn't go back. Not your fault they didn't scan it!

TheTeddyBears · 26/11/2022 17:12

I don't actually know anyone that would go back if they are being truly honest with themselves. Not like the folk in the shop will be super gratefully or anything and it's more hassle for u. So think of it as a nice discount or a wee freebie. It's happened to me before and I have not gone back to for said item. Just the same as sometimes I have been overcharged and not noticed until I got home etc or worse still they scanned something twice I've also had that happen and didn't go back. Therefore it's swings and roundabouts!

AllOfThemWitches · 26/11/2022 17:13

I wouldn't take it back, as pp says, if it were an independent business it would be different but no one is suffering as a result of this £8 jumper except sweatshop workers who made it.

ShakeYourFeathers · 26/11/2022 17:18

RandomUsernameHere · 26/11/2022 13:27

If it was a small independent shop I would definitely go back, but I'm pretty sure TK Maxx can easily absorb the £8 loss.

This!

Enjoy your jumper op

dazzlingdeborahrose · 26/11/2022 18:01

The OP hasn't done anything wrong. She offered up the items she wanted to buy. The shop stated the price they wanted her to pay. She paid it and is free tomorrow leave with the items.

MavisCruet2023 · 26/11/2022 18:01

I would not take it back.
Doing that would probably create more problems that it would solve.

wildseas · 26/11/2022 18:03

I’d donate £8 to charity and forgot all about it!

dutysuite · 26/11/2022 18:11

If it’s going to cost me money to take it back (petrol, carpark fees, ULEZ, or public transport) then I’m keeping it.

fizzwhizz1 · 26/11/2022 18:17

Keep it as a freebie. Its more hassle and problematic for the staff if you go back - the staff member serving may get disciplined. Why don't you donate £8 to a charity of your choosing instead?

Delatron · 26/11/2022 18:24

It is their mistake! So nothing dishonest about this. The time and money you would spend to go all the way back and return it would be worth more than the £8 the jumper cost.

anyolddinosaur · 26/11/2022 18:36

Well in similar situations I've done this twice, they took the money once and not the other time. I dont always go back to a shop, if they undercharge me. It depends on whether they have over-charged me in the past or not. I get overcharged more often than undercharged and although I spot a lot sometimes it is not worth the fuss to have it made right.
