What was your "first dance" song?

Newly engaged so I am over-thinking all these things at the moment...!
Me and my DP are not lovers of attention but do want to do a "first dance" at our wedding. It might sound an odd choice but I think "Fix You" by Coldplay would be great - lyrics aren't the cheeriest but it's so emotional and has the lovely climactic ending.. is this a rubbish choice? What did you have? We don't have any significant suitable songs that lend themself to the task!!

Fix You is written about Gwyneth’s father dying so maybe not the most positive story for a wedding?

BugsyDrakeTableScape · 24/11/2022 21:27

Tonight Tonight by the Smashing Pumpkins. We panic chose it the night before the wedding,.but it was a great choice

Running Home to You by Grant Gustin - no one's ever heard of it because it was written to be used specifically in a tv show 😂 it's on Spotify and YouTube, but as soon as we heard it when watching the show we knew it was perfect. Which shows don't need to worry if you don't have a certain song that is 'your song' (me and DH didnt) and you will come across something or settle on something you like 😊

I went to a wedding where they had James Taylor- you got a friend- which was rather lovely

QforCucumber · 24/11/2022 21:33

Al Green - let’s stay together. Absolutely perfect

CourtneeLuv · 24/11/2022 21:37

If you don't want to do a first dance, don't. We didn't.

CourtneeLuv · 24/11/2022 21:37

Sorry, I see you said you do, I thought you said you didn't!

canonlyhopexo · 24/11/2022 21:40

Ours was Never too Much - Luther van Dross. It was fun and upbeat and everyone joined in so it wasn't too awkward or cringe!

XanaduKira · 24/11/2022 21:41

A friend had I Want to Wake up with You by Boris Gardner - it was great. Not too long, simple lyrics but pretty much said it all about being together and a nice beat / rhythm.

TeddyTed · 24/11/2022 21:42

I really didn’t want a first dance but I was talked into it, I sort of enjoyed it! We had All You Need Is Love by the Beatles.

This was a contender for us! Had it on our dinner playlist instead. Lovely song ❤

I had ‘I want to wake up with you’ by Boris Gardner too!

(Divorced now though 😬)

Congratulations 💐
Possibly a quick check into the background of Fix You might be advisable. Keep a note on your phone of any possibles, that helped me!
We had Forever After All by Luke Combs.

longtompot · 24/11/2022 21:44

Don't Dream it's Over by Crowded House. Not because it was a favourite of ours or had any meaning, it was just the first slowest song we could dance to that came up on our playlist

hpphhp · 24/11/2022 21:45

Morcheeba - Rome wasn't built in a day
