What was your "first dance" song?

Newly engaged so I am over-thinking all these things at the moment...!
Me and my DP are not lovers of attention but do want to do a "first dance" at our wedding. It might sound an odd choice but I think "Fix You" by Coldplay would be great - lyrics aren't the cheeriest but it's so emotional and has the lovely climactic ending.. is this a rubbish choice? What did you have? We don't have any significant suitable songs that lend themself to the task!!

We had I Don’t Want to Set the World on Fire by the Ink Spots. We’d edited the track beforehand to remove the spoken word part in the middle, which had the added benefit of shortening the time. Some popular first dance songs are very long and get a bit uncomfortable!

We felt the same so had the hokey cokey when we married in 2011.
Our daughter who was 5 and my nieces aged between 2 and 6 all joined in as they were our bridesmaids. It really was fun and as the song played my parents came and joined in so the daughter father dance box was ticked too 🤣

Millionaire by Chris Stapleton. Good luck with the planning!

Bryan Adams - Heaven (acoustic version). Perfect lyrics and music. Still love it.

Butterflies, Kacey Musgraves

Congratulations!
We had “Baby, I’m Yours” by Arctic Monkeys. Close contender was “Toothpaste Kisses” by The Maccabees.

Shania Twain - From this moment

Us too - it was gorgeous to dance to with words that meant a lot to us

I'm Yours by Jack Savoretti.
He has a couple of first dance type songs.

I love you, always forever by Donna Lewis.

We heard it sung in a restaurant just after we got engaged and since I love a big 80s / 90s ballad anyway, that was the one.

Fix You is written about Gwyneth’s father dying so maybe not the most positive story for a wedding?

When my nephew got married, his wife insisted on it's a beautiful day by Michael Buble. Don't think she realised it was about him being so pleased he'd dumped his girlfriend 😂

Lcb123 · 24/11/2022 22:14

Thinking of You by Sister Sledge. Fix You is such an emotional song but (just my opinion) maybe not quite right for a wedding?

chapelbell · 24/11/2022 22:14

Everlong by the Foo Fighters

healthadvice123 · 24/11/2022 22:15

Paul Weller , you do something to me

meow1989 · 24/11/2022 22:16

We had a friends band perform "it's only time" by the magnetic fields

JenniferWooley · 24/11/2022 22:16

I didn't have this (because it hadn't even been written when I got married) but Die A Happy Man by Thomas Rhett would be my choice if I was getting married again.
