What was your "first dance" song?

Newly engaged so I am over-thinking all these things at the moment...!
Me and my DP are not lovers of attention but do want to do a "first dance" at our wedding. It might sound an odd choice but I think "Fix You" by Coldplay would be great - lyrics aren't the cheeriest but it's so emotional and has the lovely climactic ending.. is this a rubbish choice? What did you have? We don't have any significant suitable songs that lend themself to the task!!

@WesternExpress how funny that the first reply was also my first dance song!

These Arms of Mine 🥰

scoutcat · 25/11/2022 03:41

Double post but Beyond by Leon Bridges was a close second choice!

cheeseandbiscuitsplz · 25/11/2022 03:49

We had an amazing band singing In These Arms - Bon Jovi 😊

@XanaduKira Glen Madiros lives in Hawaii with his wife and daughter Lyric. Lyric is on tik tok and sometimes has her dad in her videos (the rest of the time it’s her and her mum with his songs in the background 😂).

Al Green - let’s stay together. Absolutely perfect

Same, 26 years on and I still get a lovely feeling as soon as I hear the opening bars.

Rockingcloggs · 25/11/2022 06:13

Freebird
Lynyrd Skynrd

Not the most conventional of choice but it was quite a while ago!

Pulp. Something changed.

One of my favourite wedding presents was a copy of the 12" vinyl single of that song!

mellongoose · 25/11/2022 07:17

Ain't Nobody By Chaka Khan. 😊

MistressofMuppets · 25/11/2022 07:27

Glory of Love by Peter Cetera.

It's our song as it has followed us around for years.
Almost had I swear by all 4 one. But our 11 year old looked at us in horror and asked why we'd have Gru's first dance as ours. Then we couldn't get the minion version out of our heads...

reallyjustwantgin · 25/11/2022 08:14

We had 'Better' by Tom Baxter. It wasn't a well known song and I loved the sentiment of the lyrics. About 5 months before we got married Boyzone brought out a version of it! I was so annoyed lol!

Harry Connock Jr - It Had to Be You (When Harry Met Sally reference)
Followed by: Barry White - My First, My Last, My Everything and Andy Williams - Can't Take My Eyes off of You.

All quite personal to us as a couple (although I think Andy Williams was having an ironic comeback at the time, so that one was more of a 'of its time' thing).

We had the HC version of 'It Had to be You' for, the same reason- 'When Harry Met Sally' was one of the first films/dvds we watched together (the other was 'Seven' Grin).

My 'second dance' - was 'Is this the way to Amarillo' Grin with Ds- who was 4 at the time .

Most of out 'favourite' songs were not really appropriate for first dances at as wedding. 'Creep' by Radiohead was vetoed Grin

Lovegossip · 25/11/2022 08:30

Ours was "Suddenly" by Billy Ocean

Crikeyalmighty · 25/11/2022 08:30
