I’ve just had to make the hardest and saddest choice of my life. I’m feeling sad and I have absolutely no one to talk to, and could really do with some chit chat to take my mind off things. Does anyone want a chat about anything other than my hard decision?

I know what you mean about lemon cake, it doesn’t really fit with winter.
I’m thinking ahead to chocolate yule log. Actually it would probably be a good idea to do a test run.

OliveHenry · 21/11/2022 21:42

Bugger, that recipe should have been on the carrot cake thread, sorry!!

Just came to the end of Green Wing, truly daft comedy series. Equally daft, I find myself tearful about the ending and all the ridiculous characters!

Very inappropriate. As was Green Wing!

Hasn’t that got Mark Heap from Friday night dinner in?

Your horse will be ok. You gave it a good life

I genuinely laughed at this. Thank you! I’m very not a horse fan 🤣

@buddhasbelly and @RoseAndGeranium Well I made a lemon cake today, with buttercream filling and thick lemon icing on top….sorry, not sorry 😆It was by special request of my daughter though as it’s her birthday today 😊

buddhasbelly · 21/11/2022 21:43

@OliveHenry bizarrely - to give OP some chit chat there has been discussion of cake!

Saddecision · 21/11/2022 21:45

buddhasbelly · 21/11/2022 21:34

Sending love OP.

My chit chat of the evening revolves around cake. specifically lemon cake and how I feel it should only be eaten in spring (preferably) and summer. I have no idea why I feel this way but lemon cake in autumn/ winter just feels odd.

what’s your favourite cake @Saddecision? Or anyone else for that matter!

Coffee cake or Victoria sponge! Neither are especially seasonal I don’t think? Agree on lemon, but I did have a Mr Kiplings lemon slice last weekend on a picnic. It was fine, but I would have enjoyed it more had it been may or June.

@Spanglybangles oh that’s an acceptable reason for a winter lemon cake!

And it's a nice autumn/winter recipe with the cinnamon!

JoolsVerne · 21/11/2022 21:47

I am partial to apple cake with a cinnamon glaze.

Saddecision · 21/11/2022 21:48

TattiePants · 21/11/2022 21:38

Not cake but MIL dropped off some homemade apple pie and custard earlier. Obviously we had to eat it tonight and I'm so stuffed I don't think I can get off the sofa.

Apple pie is entirely seasonal. Well done MIL. Mine made an apple Charlotte back in October. It was very nice!

I enjoy it when Mumsnet is like this. People happy just to chat about everything and nothing, especially when it is to bring somebody distraction or comfort. Wish it could be like this more often! Sending thoughts OP.

OrangePomander · 21/11/2022 21:49

@OliveHenry that was a handy coincidence. I’ve got a tin of crushed pineapple in the cupboard that was bought by mistake when I was planning cheese and pineapple on sticks - family birthday tradition, don’t ask… I now know what to do with it.

buddhasbelly · 21/11/2022 21:50

@OliveHenry ive bookmarked the recipe thank you!

EscapeRoomToTheSun · 21/11/2022 21:50

I made an apple pie yesterday and felt very proud of myself. Even did whipped cream (with vanilla in so am basically nigella now).

TattiePants · 21/11/2022 21:39

Aw, first Christmases are so lovely. Have you bought her anything yet?

Lots and lots! Lots of books. She loves reading.

Which is your favourite taskmaster task? it's my comfort blanket right now, any episode will do but Bob Mortimer best of all.

I remember Pat Butcher in Eastenders saying to another character, " Who eats salad in winter"? I love salad anytime, but that quote made me think 'she does have a point'.

picklemewalnuts · 21/11/2022 21:52

It does have Mark Heap, @Saddecision

Also Tamsin Greig, and Stephen mangam.... and loads of people that are really well known in comedy now.

Stellar cast! I'm picky, and I loved it. Very distracting !

Oh that’s great! My best ever one was the cocktail making one a few series ago and they had to shout a certain phrase every time it went wrong. Daisy May Cooper kept shouting ‘I LOVE THIS’ and it properly tickled me.

what is yours?

Pam St Clement aka Pat Butcher not only had some impeccable taste in earrings but some very valid points.

are you reading anything good just now yourself @Saddecision?
