Anyone still have their childhood teddy?

This article prompted me to post. https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2022/nov/19/adults-who-have-cuddly-toys-comfort-objects?CMP=ShareiOSAppp_Other

I still have mine 'mouse' it sometimes goes on top of my pillows or on the bookcase. It was handmade by my aunt over 30 years ago so has seen better days.

I wondered if it was odd to keep it out in my bedroom still, but now feel slightly reassured.

Of all my childhood toys, Bunny remains. Don't know how old he is but I've had him since 1965 and love him to bits. He's about five inches tall, with very long upright ears, covered in wool and has bright button eyes, a leather patch nose and stitched mouth that makes him look like he's smiling. He lives on the book shelf next to the bed.

For those whose toys were thrown out, this happened to all mine except Bunny. I spent far longer than necessary looking at similar vintage toys online and then thought 'For goodness sake, stop dithering and buy yourself some replacements'. We've now gone from Bunny being alone to having a family of five bunnies

Yes. My panda is 58 and lives at the back of my wardrobe.

sausage767 · 19/11/2022 16:11

My DH still has, and it’s faintly terrifying. I’d post a photo but it’s nightmare fuel.

:shudder:

TroysMammy · 19/11/2022 16:12

Yes. He's called Ted and I was given him when I was born, nearly 55 years ago. He doesn't have much soft fur, I used to pluck it out. He lives in my underwear drawer.

I also have my panda Chi Chi, he's a bit younger than Ted but similarly doesn't have much soft fur either. He has a homemade nose because his original one "fell off". He lives on top of a wardrobe.

sausage767 · 19/11/2022 16:13

The teddy, not my DH.

And my sister still has the panda our dad bought her when she was a baby, and he was serving in Vietnam.

MsFogi · 19/11/2022 16:15

I still have my blanket, does that count?

IHeartGeneHunt · 19/11/2022 16:15

I've got mine- Little Ted and Fred Bear. They're both very ragged but they're not going anywhere.

Erictheavocado · 19/11/2022 16:17

Me! My teddy bear was given by my grandparents when I was born, over 60 years ago. I also have another soft toy given to me by my godmother when I was about 2. My mum bought my DC's the same bear as I have and I've continued the tradition by doing the same for dgs. All bears are much loved.

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 19/11/2022 16:22

I still have my 55 year old Miser Mouse.

cezannesapple · 19/11/2022 16:22

Yes, I’ve got mine and he sits on the bookcase,

Hobbesmanc · 19/11/2022 16:30

I have blue Ted whose on the wardrobe but very bald and patchy. Sooty the glove puppet whose wand got lost and paws are threadbare and Barnaby bear whose stuffing has disintegrated. The latter two live in a cupboard. They're over fifty years old like me 😪

I've also several clockwork toys etc

I had an extensive collection of soft toys as a child all much loved. When I got my first home I brought my favourites over but the rest were in a packing case in my parents loft. Apparently after my mum died my step dad cleared out the loft and everything was skipped. Whilst I feel sad I'm also relieved as I'd never be able to throw them away myself. But had no where to keep them.

Hellocatshome · 19/11/2022 16:34

I have my cuddlt rabbit. He lives in a shoe box in the wardrobe as he is a bit fragile now. I also hve my mums childhood bear. He sits on the sideboard wearing some PJs I put on him as a child, I dare not take them off in case thats all thats keeping him together. My DS2 12 still sleeps with the bear we got him as a baby, my 15 year old has his on a shelf by his bed.

Alysskea · 19/11/2022 16:40

Mine still sleeps in bed with me!

whatwasthiscritter · 19/11/2022 16:41

I lost mine when I was about 10. I had missed him forever and then got bought a replacement by my mum on my 42nd birthday ( I used Mumsnet to help find him, he is a plastic dog not a teddy) I cried when I smelled that smell for the first time in 30+ years. I sleep holding him every night, even if I go away. I won't lose my noo noo again

abblie · 19/11/2022 16:42

Yes a leopard my dad bought me the day I was born I'm 42 now she's lies on the bottom of my bed and went to university with me lol

whatwasthiscritter · 19/11/2022 16:42

My mum is in her late 70's she still has her 2 teddies from childhood. Rupert and Shirley Patricia

the80sweregreat · 19/11/2022 16:43

Yes, I sent him off to a lovely lady in Dorset who tidied him up and put on a new eye too.
He sits out in the conservatory guarding the house !

That sounds like a good idea. My bunny could do with tidying up a bit. Can you tell us more?

Bettyboop3 · 19/11/2022 15:17

Mine is his twin!!!

@Bettyboop3 lets see!!!!

torquewench · 19/11/2022 16:56

Yep, my mum won him in a raffle on the maternity ward while she was in there having me. He's nearly 52 and looks it.

the80sweregreat · 19/11/2022 16:59

I looked up antique bear repairers and one came up in Dorset
it was about three years ago now. I had to send him off by post and she added on the cost the postage to her final bill to return him a few weeks later.

Deadringer · 19/11/2022 17:02

I didn't really have a special Teddy but I still have a couple of dolls from my childhood. My dd (32) still has her first Teddy though, it has been all over the world with her.

PeloFondo · 19/11/2022 17:05

Yes, he's 38
