Anyone still have their childhood teddy?

This article prompted me to post. https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2022/nov/19/adults-who-have-cuddly-toys-comfort-objects?CMP=ShareiOSAppp_Other

I still have mine 'mouse' it sometimes goes on top of my pillows or on the bookcase. It was handmade by my aunt over 30 years ago so has seen better days.

I wondered if it was odd to keep it out in my bedroom still, but now feel slightly reassured.

I'm so sad I don't have mine. I've no idea what happened to it, I guess my mum must have thrown it away.
I do have newer ones though, that I sleep with every night.

Athenen0ctua · 19/11/2022 18:59

I don't remember one. I'm sure there must have been teddies at some point but I never attached to any.

socksandvests · 19/11/2022 19:06

Yes, meet Teddy Edward, 50 years old and still under my pillow every night.

He's a lot flatter than he used to be and needs to wear a baby grow (my sons first baby grow) to keep his arms and legs on, they are so threadbare.

I've loved him to death. He's been there for me so many times over the years, he's very good for crying on

Yes I have Ted - he's nearly 60 like me & I just remembered reading a previous post that he used to "growl" too - I just checked & you can still hear it faintly - he has bells in his ears too - I love him 💙

Yup! Bear is 48 now & looking a little sorry for himself but he shares my bed if I'm alone & has a little cubby-hole in the airing cupboard if I've got company....
My maternal grandmother gave him to me for my 2nd birthday & he's been my side ever since wherever I've lived. I think it's the memories of my grandmother mostly, she was a lovely lady & I was lucky to have her in my life until I was 21.

Brigante9 · 19/11/2022 19:21

A teddy with Velcro paws so he sticks to you. His nose was chewed by our family dog as a puppy, he’s otherwise in very good nick.

Greydog · 19/11/2022 19:25

I have Donkey Donk - he was really a shire horse on wheels, but not having seen one, I thought it was a donkey! My Dad took it off the wheels so I could cuddle it, I've had him for 68 years, and he lives with a much younger white bear on the window seat

Jellykat · 19/11/2022 19:29

I have 4, Snowy is 59, Big ted is 55, Growler is 57 and Hoppity is 53.
I remember where / who each one comes from.
I also have my Grannys teddy, they all sit on a shelf (bar Big Ted cos hes too big)
Grin nuts i know!

BestIsWest · 19/11/2022 19:35

Teds, on the left aged 59 and Mr Punch on the right who belonged to my DF and who is 84.
Teds is still sporting the tartan paws I gave him as a Bay City Rollers fan in the 1970s.
The live happily together in the spare room.

Pickingmyselfup · 19/11/2022 19:35

Of course, even at 36 years old I would be distraught if I lost Teddy. He's 33 now and still looks great but he doesn't get cuddled much. The kids have him from time to time and I cuddle him if I'm poorly or can't sleep but he mostly just lurks around the house, on floors, in beds, he's not very well looked after but he seems pretty hardy.

Oh goddd I just threw mine away a few months ago when I was in a really bad mood about the state of our house. Now I really miss it and wish I hadn't got rid of her :(

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 19/11/2022 19:39

And my reasoning at the time was if I am old and die my children will struggle to get rid of it but it's just a soft toy taking up space and they won't have any reason to keep it so I was thinking I was helping out my future adult children.

Yes, I still have my bear. It may sound pathetic, but I still hug it to sleep. If we ever go on holiday or anything, I end up hugging the pillow Grin It doesn't bother DH and it's not hurting anybody so I shall continue to do so!

I’m the same, feel a bit lost when I don’t have him and don’t know what to cuddle to fall asleep (DH too hot, I can’t deal with the heat from body contact as I fall asleep 😂)

Baconand · 19/11/2022 19:45

Yes. I have several, DD has claimed 3 of them
but the one I had as a newborn is in my room and on show although not in my bed.

Seeingadistance · 19/11/2022 19:48

Yes, mine is 54 and lives in a drawer to keep him safe from the cats. I take him out for a cuddle every so often.

1stWorldProblems · 19/11/2022 19:52

Yup - I've had Winnie the Pooh since I was 3 - will be 50 next year & I use him as pillow. Find it odd going to sleep without it. Any boyfriends who took the piss was already suspect. DH never batted an eyelid.

SundayShawl · 19/11/2022 19:53

I still have Pullover, my mum made him for me when I was about 4 or 5 so he's nearly 40 now.

The moths got to him last year but I managed to find a copy of the knitting pattern and repaired him.

echt · 19/11/2022 19:54

I do. He sits on a bookshelf, cuddled by my late DH's teddy.

Spanielsarepainless · 19/11/2022 20:00

I've had my rabbit for almost 60 years. He was a baptism present from my godmother.

Piffle11 · 19/11/2022 20:05

Yes. He's never had a name - I always thought of him as male - and he's been hugged so tightly over the years that he's pretty much furless. My DM had to make him a little bodysuit in order to keep his insides inside. He went with me to university, on my first holiday abroad with my friends (18 yo) and now sits with my DS1's soft toys in his room. I still give him a kiss every now and then Smile He's 53 years old.

MidtoLon · 19/11/2022 20:06

Yes I still have my teddy. He doesn’t growl anymore but his mouth still opens when you press his tummy. He sits on top of a chest of drawers in my bedroom next to Linda the life size baby doll who Father Christmas left under the tree in the cold living room when all my other presents were in a pillow case at the bottom of my bed. I can still remember how cross I felt that she was left all alone. I think I was 6 so 62 years ago. She had lovely outfits my mum had knitted but they got a bit tatty so she’s in a baby gro now. Neither my children or grandchildren have been allowed to play with them.

Bettyboop3 · 19/11/2022 18:22

Here he is 🥰

Awww, does he smell lovely?

roarfeckingroarr · 19/11/2022 20:16

@PeachSquashAddict snap. My bear has become Mummy Bear and DS sleeps with him every night. I'm also 34.

cptartapp · 19/11/2022 20:29

Yes. Rags was my cuddly dog for years. He's got one scorched earth from being dried on a radiator. Now lives in my bedroom cupboard with my Tiny Tears doll.
