Anyone still have their childhood teddy?

This article prompted me to post. https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2022/nov/19/adults-who-have-cuddly-toys-comfort-objects?CMP=ShareiOSAppp_Other

I still have mine 'mouse' it sometimes goes on top of my pillows or on the bookcase. It was handmade by my aunt over 30 years ago so has seen better days.

I wondered if it was odd to keep it out in my bedroom still, but now feel slightly reassured.

My brother does and he's 66. I don't but I do have the baby doll I got when I was about 6. I also got the Silver Cross dolls pram to go with her. I called the doll Janet so I think that tells you pretty much how old she is.

She is in my wardrobe at the back as I don't really know where else to put her.

I have Flat Teddy. He's a small bear, about the size of my hand. A friend of my mum made him for me. I got him when I was a few days old. Unfortunately his stuffing fell out, hence the name. I'm 46 now, and will never ever get rid of him.

If my house was burning down and all my family were safe, I would know exactly where to find Timmy my Teddy (under my bed) and I would just HAVE to rescue him ❤

You're before your time and out of your geography. Flat out bears are an Australian thing.

bengalcat · 19/11/2022 15:29

Yes I have a few of my childhood soft toys

StopStartStop · 19/11/2022 15:31

65 - the dog ate my first teddy bear when I was 10, but I was given a replacement and have him still. He might go in the 'Swedish Death Cleaning', though. Everything is going unless I actually need it day to day.

AdaColeman · 19/11/2022 15:31

Yes, I've still got my bear Bumbo, though he's very old and has a wonky nose, one eye missing, and is a bit bald now. He looks quite grumpy to be honest, but I love him.
He started life as a lady bear, but too many cuddles made poor Bumbo fall apart. My clever Mother made him a velvet suit and stitched him into it.

So he still survives after all these years.

MermaidSwimming · 19/11/2022 15:36

Yes he sits on the bookcase

Elbieo · 19/11/2022 15:37

@SusanPerbCallMeSue ahhh flat teddy has cheered me up no end! Feeling very down today (cost of living survival issues) ug. This is an adorable ted. Thanks for sharing!

BigFatLiar · 19/11/2022 15:39

DH does, mine were acquired by the girls, his teddy is threadbare with almost no fur and a chewed up ear. They weren't so interested in it but did play with it.
My teddy is now with one of the GC but we have several still here for the GC to play with when they come. The number goes up and down as they move to their home and get brought back and left.

ReadtheReviews · 19/11/2022 15:42

Yes, couple of pound puppies and Fraggles. In a chest, upstairs. They survived Kondoing.
This thread is nice.

KnittedCardi · 19/11/2022 15:44

DH does, and both my DD's have kept their first beanies. My DM threw mine away, without asking, when I was a young teen. It was a knitted lamb stuffed with tights. Bloody loved that lamb. What do want that horrible old thing for. Never forgave her.

MrsCarson · 19/11/2022 15:45

Mine is stored in the bedside drawers. Threadbare and lost his eyes. a long time ago. He's about 60 ish.
I have all my children teddies in their box of baby stuff. Bunny Fufu, looks good and he's 34. Moo moo is thread bear and has lots of repairs he's 28 and Teddy who is 18 and has lost all colour and looks a right mess.

RoseMartha · 19/11/2022 15:45

Yes it is battered and the stuffing is showing through in places.

barskits · 19/11/2022 15:45

Yes I do. Her name's Patsy and she lives in a suitcase in the loft with several other of my early childhood toys.

girlmama29 · 19/11/2022 15:45

Yes DH and I both have ours, DD now has claimed mine right enough but we still have them. Mine is a Pooh bear, he's lost his T-shirt and is a bit discoloured but still in really good condition. DH has a monkey who has definitely seen better days, he's been sewn up quite a bit and is missing an eye.

ChuggingtonMum · 19/11/2022 15:47

Mine is very similar to Flat Teddy but as well as being much less clean and losing his stuffing he's also lost his head. I still sleep with him.

girlmama29 · 19/11/2022 15:47

They are both now over 30 years old. Mum still has hers too he's a panda called pandy and he's now over 60 years old.

mrsmacmc · 19/11/2022 15:49

Yup and he sits on my bedside table usually but he comes away with me if I'm travelling for work for company (38 years old!). DH first bear sits in the study on the bookcase with our various collected stuffed toys from childhood 💖

justasking111 · 19/11/2022 15:50

Two steiff bears big ted and little ted. Big ted used to growl. They're both 66 now

HerReputationMadeItDifficultToProceed · 19/11/2022 15:50

Yes. He's a cat and he sits on a shelf in my bedroom. He's exactly he same age as me- well, a few hours younger I guess as my Dad had to go and buy him when I had already been born- and originally had a vest but that got lost. Now he just has pants on and is otherwise naked.

TruestRepairman · 19/11/2022 15:59

I still have mine. He was my dad's first so must be well over 70 years old, and looks it. He sits on top of my bedroom drawers.

I was in my 17yo's room the other day and noticed her battered childhood panda in her bed. Obviously still loved!

Tiani4 · 19/11/2022 16:00

Yes
Although he was commandeered by my eldest aa a toddler from my cupboard . 50 year old bear.
