Anyone still have their childhood teddy?

This article prompted me to post. https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2022/nov/19/adults-who-have-cuddly-toys-comfort-objects?CMP=ShareiOSAppp_Other

I still have mine 'mouse' it sometimes goes on top of my pillows or on the bookcase. It was handmade by my aunt over 30 years ago so has seen better days.

I wondered if it was odd to keep it out in my bedroom still, but now feel slightly reassured.

My bunny is 36 years old and still sleeps in my bed with me at night. My husband finds it endearing and doesn’t mind. She’s my most precious possession and would be the only object I would rescue in a fire.

Thanks for linking the article, OP - what a delightful piece!

My 51yr old Ted is still alive but a bit moth eaten around the edges. My 75yr old mum still has her Ted too.

Hadn't thought to do it before but have done a search and found a local bear repairer.

Mollyplop999 · 19/11/2022 17:10

I do. A Koala bear that a boyfriend of my Mum's bought back from Australia when she was 16. She's 77 now. He's rather tatty and bald but much treasured.

PuttingDownRoots · 19/11/2022 17:12

My bear sneaks into bed when Dzh is away
Otherwise sits on my dressing Table

sageandrosemary · 19/11/2022 17:13

Yes! Struggle to sleep without him still Blush

Bigpinkslippers · 19/11/2022 17:15

I've got mine and my mum still has hers so they're 53 and 76 years old now

fussychica · 19/11/2022 17:16

Yep my two bears and a cloth doll are 65. They lived in the bedroom on and off for many years but are now carefully stored in the loft.

Isseywith3witchycats · 19/11/2022 17:16

no but two of my children and one of my granddaughters do

machanicalmovement · 19/11/2022 17:17

Yes, it's in my mothers attic...

At least I hope it still is.

roarfeckingroarr · 19/11/2022 17:20

I do but my DS has stolen "mummy bear" and sleeps with him every night. I might borrow one of his so I have something to cuddle.

VoyageInTheDark · 19/11/2022 17:23

I have a rabbit that I've had since I was 6. For some reason I named him Andrew

glamourousindierockandroll · 19/11/2022 17:26

Yes, I also have Mouse. I will never part with him. My parents hid him for a while but I was heart broken watching the opening scene of Toy Story where Woody gets forgotten and thinks Andy doesn't love him any more, so they gave him back to me.

MrsMoastyToasty · 19/11/2022 17:35

I don't have mine anymore. It got put in the loft and got ruined during a leak.
DS still has hers and she's 54. He's lived in 4 different countries on 2 separate continents.

TimBoothseyes · 19/11/2022 17:40

I have koala that I've had for 50+ years. He's absolutely threadbare ,lost his claws, his eyes and the stitching is falling apart. He lives on the top of my wardrobe and I will keep him until one of us has turned to dust.

Bettyboop3 · 19/11/2022 18:20

I can't seem to work out how 🤦‍♀️

mathanxiety · 19/11/2022 18:23

Yes, a bunny who is three months younger than me. My granny and aunt bought him and we haven't been separated for 58 years. In an effort to make him look more realistic I painted his glass eyes with pink nail polish, around age 5. Apart from that and a few threadbare patches he's in good shape.

PeachSquashAddict · 19/11/2022 18:25

Yep. I’ve always called it Bunny but my daughter has named it Mummy Bunny. I sleep cuddling it every night and it has been on every holiday/ staying at friends for the night. I’m 34 😅

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 19/11/2022 18:33

Of course! A rather holey, greying, pink, threadbare elephant called Arabella (I think I was given her at 7, so she’s about 43 now.

She has no eyes, has long lost her tusks, I’m continually sewing perished seams, but she’s behind my head on my pillow as I type this.

She’s in bed with me every night (DH & I have been together for around 28 years, he doesn’t give a fig). In fact, his now 53 year old bear Uh -Ah is on our (adult) daughter’s bed right now.

I have pink & white fur & fresh stuffing, and have all intention to separate her pieces & use them to make a pattern as a new skin suit for her… but I haven’t the heart to deconstruct her in case she’s never quite the same!

My twin has a green version, and he is almost pristine by comparison!

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 19/11/2022 18:35

This is Arabella. She’s beautiful 😂

NiceTwin · 19/11/2022 18:47

I have mine, a small blue sitting bear and I also have my mum's, that's a bigger one that is blue with white tipped fur, he is beautiful.
They both live in a display cabinet with many collectable bears.
I sleep with a bear that was given to me as a young adult, he is now 35 years old.

Miggymoggymugwumps · 19/11/2022 18:49

My poor Dad was packed off to boarding school at the tender age of 5 (bloody inhumane, cruel & unimaginable!!!).
I have a picture of him clutching his beloved teddy bear just as he was leaving the house.
Dad is now 88 and still has that very cherished teddy bear & although he's a bit moth-eaten and frayed he is priceless as he was such an enormous comfort to my Dad when he was a child.

upinaballoon · 19/11/2022 18:54

Yes, Teddy, in a suitcase under a bed, I think, with one detached leg, but NEVER thrown out.
