In a cafe, and a woman has just complained (funny)

She'd ordered a bacon sandwich and it's just been delivered to the table. She's now moaning because her bacon sandwich has a tiny crumb of black pudding on it. And she doesn't eat pork.

I feel for the poor staff having to explain which animal bacon comes from 😬

(And no, there's no vegan bacon on the menu so not a mix up!)

Her complaint is that "she doesn't eat pork" while ordering a bacon sandwich.

If I made an error like that I would expect to be laughed at and I would laugh at myself. Just as I do when I fall over in public (quite often) or make any other glaring error.

You sound uptight.

Sisisimone · 15/11/2022 12:57

Reminds me of a woman at work who thought a gammon steak came from an animal called a Gammon. She even drew a picture of what said Gammon looked like which looked like some sort of demented chicken. We were all, including her, in hysterics.

I've also been in a restaurant where someone sent their smoked salmon back because it wasn't cooked

Well, you had made the full ingredients of the hotdog clear with honesty so if he chose to ignore you, that’s his problem! However I believe there are beef hotdogs available so maybe he was expecting those.

Also chicken hotdogs, I had one once and couldn’t tell the difference which probably says something about the pork content of normal hotdogs.

For goodness sake! She doesn't eat pork - probably for cultural/religious reasons - in her world 'bacon' is a non pork product - so that makes her 'stupid'?

Let's assume you are fight and that's why she doesn't eat pork. The onus is on her to educate herself as to what she is eating. So if she's middle aged she's had many years to do this. Not knowing something this basic does make her stupid imo.

Readinginthesun · 15/11/2022 12:59

I now want a bacon sandwich. With brown sauce .

KittenKong · 15/11/2022 12:59

I’m wondering why her husband has never felt the need to explain it to her.

Uninterestedfamily · 15/11/2022 12:59

I had a friend once be indignantly outraged after she tried a hog roast for the first time. 'It was just roast pork!'

Oh god a second staff member is coming, along with the bacon sandwich that started all of this.

I really wish I was there, instead of just reading about it.

OMG - the actual EXHIBIT A?!!!

This has got more thrills & spills than an episode of Quincy MD. Keep it coming OP 😀

Don't be so fucking stupid

QuestionableMouse · 15/11/2022 13:00

IT'S NOT BLACK PUDDING!

Second worker has just pointed out that the crumb of black pudding is actually a burned bit of her bun!

I'm too far away to tell - it just looks like a little black lump to me.

Still no resolution on the bacon is a pork product front as far as I can tell.

But she's made a perfectly legitimate complaint about her food being not what she ordered. For whatever reason, she doesn't know that bacon routinely comes from pork. That's nothing to sneer at.

Apart from the crumb of black pudding, which I agree shouldn't have been there, her food was exactly as she ordered. If she eats bacon, she eats pork.

Never underestimate the stupidity of some people

Harrysnippleno3 · 15/11/2022 13:01

I don't believe a grown adult who does not eat pork is unaware that bacon is pork.

I wonder if she misheard capon? (Clutching at straws…)

KittenKong · 15/11/2022 13:01

I assume she eats ham too?

Of course. It's a legal requirement surely?

StillWeRise · 15/11/2022 13:01

no, bacon always comes from a pig- if it is not from a pig, it isn't bacon

I really can't imagine any plausible reason for a local middle aged woman not to know this

QuestionableMouse · 15/11/2022 13:01

I hope they hurry up, I have an appointment in 30 mins (only next door, luckily!)

Maybe he enjoys a bacon sarnie and doesn't want her imposing a ban on them in the house ?

UndisclosedBlackPudding · 15/11/2022 13:01

Yes I really think said husband has been gaslighting her all these years telling her bacon isn't pig (so what has he said it is though?)

Op you have to see this through until the bitter end, order yourself another coffee and whatever you need and I'll chip in 50p. Big drama coming I think. Can't have you chucked out for occupying a table while not consuming. 😉

Flapjackquack · 15/11/2022 13:01

Only wafer thin

carefulcalculator · 15/11/2022 13:02

It is a big ethical dilemma now for the cafe woman, does she stop eating bacon because she doesn't eat prok, or does she accept that she does in fact eat pork?

She may need some support to deal with the implications of all this.
