In a cafe, and a woman has just complained (funny)

She'd ordered a bacon sandwich and it's just been delivered to the table. She's now moaning because her bacon sandwich has a tiny crumb of black pudding on it. And she doesn't eat pork.

I feel for the poor staff having to explain which animal bacon comes from 😬

(And no, there's no vegan bacon on the menu so not a mix up!)

IT'S NOT BLACK PUDDING!

Second worker has just pointed out that the crumb of black pudding is actually a burned bit of her bun!

I'm too far away to tell - it just looks like a little black lump to me.

Still no resolution on the bacon is a pork product front as far as I can tell.

Now you're spoiling us, Ambassador QuestionableMouse!

Pixiedust1234 · 15/11/2022 13:03

If someone doesn't eat something, for whatever reason, then they need to find out what else it could be named as, or in. Otherwise they are stupid, or they can't complain about it.

ivykaty44 · 15/11/2022 13:03

we had a couple who regularly purchased sour bread, then once a week would purchase the soda bread.

Then one day they explained they were vegan....

I can pretty much guarantee that the staff will be in the back trying to keep a straight face, and this story will get retold often "remember that customer who complained their bacon sandwich was pug meat?" Followed by laughter.
😂😂😂

Well if the cafe is serving dog, there really HAS been a cultural misunderstanding @tigger1001 - & I think we should all apologise to @AnApparitionQuipped for our lack of sensitivity about canine meat cuts.

Damn I thought I fixed that auto correct - clearly not 😂😂

Yes I really think said husband has been gaslighting her all these years telling her bacon isn't pig (so what has he said it is though?)

Op you have to see this through until the bitter end, order yourself another coffee and whatever you need and I'll chip in 50p. Big drama coming I think. Can't have you chucked out for occupying a table while not consuming. 😉

Fear not, I think 75% of the staff are involved in this now.

And I still have scone and tea to consume.

First staff member is heading back to the kitchen. She looks like she desperately needs a laugh.

For goodness sake! She doesn't eat pork - probably for cultural/religious reasons - in her world 'bacon' is a non pork product - so that makes her 'stupid'?

Yes.
if you don’t eat pork for religious and cultural reasons but haven’t bothered to note that bacon is pork, you are stupid.

hth

QuestionableMouse · 15/11/2022 13:05

Woman is ordering a scone.

Second worker sounds like she's explaining that bacon comes from pigs again!

Actually I have just polished off a bacon sandwich (crusty bread, with ketchup) from the greasy spoon next door to the dialysis unit. It definitely makes my three sessions a week more tolerable!

ivykaty44 · 15/11/2022 13:05

OP can you ask her why she doesn't eat pork products?

sueelleker · 15/11/2022 13:05

ChaToilLeam · 15/11/2022 12:54

Does that mean there is a bacon sandwich going spare? I’ll have it! 🥓 And stick a slice of black pud in too, please. 😋

Now I want a bacon sandwich for lunch. I think I've got some in the freezer.

YES!!

OP we need an intervention.
Think of it as a form of community support toward her husband.

Tiredmummy2014 · 15/11/2022 13:06

Best thread in ages! 🤣

Yeah, pretty much.

QuestionableMouse · 15/11/2022 13:08

It's made my wait for the car's MOT much better, honestly!

Pretty sure the husband has just said "but you've eaten bacon before"

We were in an Indian restaurant and a group came in - the older man and his friend and his two (adult sons). The older man was loudly going in about how he’d been vegan for XX years and how he loved this restaurant.

He then ordered - and ate - paneer curry. No one mentioned it to him (so I assume they assumed it was a sort of tofu).

Theyorkshirelass · 15/11/2022 13:09

This reminds me of the time my eldest was a baby (I’m going back 26+ years)
wed stopped off at a cafe, that we’d never been to before-nice enough place
we ordered an ice cream sundae with ‘hot fudge’ topping
babies father sent it back as the hot fudge topping was cold

i couldn’t be with someone that thick and broke up with him not long after

ill never forget the pitiful look the owner gave me as we left

sueelleker · 15/11/2022 13:09

Sisisimone · 15/11/2022 12:57

Reminds me of a woman at work who thought a gammon steak came from an animal called a Gammon. She even drew a picture of what said Gammon looked like which looked like some sort of demented chicken. We were all, including her, in hysterics.

I've also been in a restaurant where someone sent their smoked salmon back because it wasn't cooked

"This Vichysoisse is cold". (And yes, I know it can be served hot, but is usually not)

Usernumber46463637262 · 15/11/2022 13:10

Tbf black pudding disgusts me and I am a bacon lover, I just can't stand black pudding. But no I wouldn't complain and no I wouldn't be so stupid to not realise bacon is indeed pork 😅

Youdbetterthrowaparty · 15/11/2022 13:10

Am I the only one who will be scanning the boards for an, 'AIBU to not know that bacon is made from pigs?' thread later today?

BloodAndFire · 15/11/2022 13:10

AnApparitionQuipped · 15/11/2022 12:37

Because people have different cultural understandings of things. Should we really be sneering at people who come from different cultural backgrounds? If 'bacon' to this woman means turkey bacon or vegan bacon, there's probably a good reason for that.

Ummm. You really don't know what you're on about. I'm Jewish. Born and bred in an area full of Jews, Muslims, and Hindus. Not one of us would ever assume for a moment that 'bacon' didn't come from a pig.

GloomyDarkness · 15/11/2022 13:10

I have friends and family with religious and medical dietary constraints they tend to be very clear what things are and in doubt ask.

I'd say this was unbelievable but I worked in a cafe and once ahs some complain their salad which was exactly as advertised with pic - apparently they weren't expecting lettice.

I also had a vegetarian wedding guests who order a fish and chicken dinner and upon questioning claim not to eat red meat then upon further polite questioning trued out she ate all red meat we could think of - but she said she was vegetarian as it was easier Confused
