She'd ordered a bacon sandwich and it's just been delivered to the table. She's now moaning because her bacon sandwich has a tiny crumb of black pudding on it. And she doesn't eat pork.

I feel for the poor staff having to explain which animal bacon comes from 😬

(And no, there's no vegan bacon on the menu so not a mix up!)

I think most adults would also know that pork and bacon both come from pigs!

Because people have different cultural understandings of things. Should we really be sneering at people who come from different cultural backgrounds? If 'bacon' to this woman means turkey bacon or vegan bacon, there's probably a good reason for that.

There's probably not a single person on the planet who is allergic to black pudding, but not bacon or the sort of bread that greasy spoons use, so I don't think we need to worry about cross contamination really.

I was thinking that so I googled the ingredients of black pudding and apart from the seasoning, there is nothing in black pudding that isn’t in a bacon sandwich.

Reminds me of the time a woman snootily told me she was vegetarian as I tucked into a chicken sandwich. Her sandwich was ham. I didn’t reply.

Sorry but this is nonsense MN whataboutery. People from different cultures are not stupid and it’s universally understood bacon is a pig product which is why other ‘types’ of bacon have additional words v clearly in front of them. In your example “vegan” or “turkey”.

No…..bacon is salt cured pork…. turkey bacon is turkey and vegan bacon ought to be banned but that another matter - everyone should know what bacon is whatever culture they are from especially if they don’t eat pork!!!!

But if she's in a 'greasy spoon' who's entire business is built on selling pork based items, she's very very unlikely to mistake it for turkey or vegan bacon.

She'd have to have never been in a supermarket or any other food business apart from a very very narrow range to be unaware that most bacon in the UK is made from pork.
