In a cafe, and a woman has just complained (funny)

She'd ordered a bacon sandwich and it's just been delivered to the table. She's now moaning because her bacon sandwich has a tiny crumb of black pudding on it. And she doesn't eat pork.

I feel for the poor staff having to explain which animal bacon comes from 😬

(And no, there's no vegan bacon on the menu so not a mix up!)

Yep, well it’s all (pig) shits and giggles until someone giggles and shits on MN.

I'm glad it did though. I'm loving it!

There are cheap cake mixes here and good ones if you pay a bit more. I buy the nicer ones and the cakes come out well.

Same for me. I like to bake (day to day cooking, not so much); sometimes I bake from scratch and sometimes I use a cake mix. I use the better ones and I usually always "doctor" them in some way, usually by adding vanilla (always "good vanilla" as Ina Garten recommends) and often sour cream. And I always make icing from scratch.

I do think the American palate may on the whole prefer the fluffier texture of cakes made from a mix than the denser, often dryer results from a scratch cake.

I did this in Rome once, asked for a "latte" without thinking. Waiter raised an eyebrow and asked me (in Italian) whether I'd like a cold milk or a warm milk, and I realised what an idiot I was and corrected it to "cafe latte" just in time. It's not laziness, just failure to engage brain before opening mouth.

Was he meltingly good-looking and he did he tilt his head 'just so' before he looked down his beautiful Italian nose and ask the hot milk or cold question?

Who would put bacon in a potato salad? Every sensible person on earth. Bacon and tates are made for each other.

Beans on toast is a bizarre concept. Ever tried explaining to an Italian what Heinz spaghetti on toast is all about? (Hine staggetti)

You know the blood that's used to make black pudding? Are we sure it's pig's blood?

ArabellaScott · 17/11/2022 22:51

Cow or pig, generally.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/11/2022 22:54

whereas here flour, sugar, eggs etc would be used in general cooking and for tea/coffee as well.

That sounds like we're using all those things in our hot drinks, which sounds mad....but on the thread bewailing the lack of cornflour in Tescos, I learned that some people include it in hot chocolate. I would have said surely no one uses eggs in their beverages, but apparently Vietnamese egg coffee exists.

Sometimes sheep and apparently in the 15th century posh pudding used porpoise. (I'm not sure I believe everything I read in Wikipedia but that does have a reference.)

Sadly I was too mortified to notice.

Ohh sad, this has been so funny, how has it turned into a cookery/traveller thread, OP thank you for such fun 🤣🤣 but I guess it's run its course

This has inspired me to try a cake mix. Where I live there are lots available, and I was just cheerfully turning up my nose at them. But if nothing else, the price of butter makes it worth trying (Eggs currently freely available here).

@KettrickenSmiled @LiveshipParagon Another Hobb fan (we both are, actually) here, just my handle doesn't reflect it. I spotted you before Kettricken, but hadn't seen Paragon before. Wonder what my handle would be.

Definitely. Bake it for slightly too long so it's a bit dry, make sure to top with buttercream made with margarine, and add no decoration except for things labelled with the unsettling description of "chocolate flavour".

<waves to you both>
I have nothing in common with Paragon, I just love him. Hobb is such a genius writer to make a boat such a complex, real, living character. I met her at a book signing in Milton Keynes once, she signed my copy of Assassin's Apprentice and gave me a signed book plate sticker to put in Assassin's Fate when I finally got a copy😍

What have you done to reach this conclusion? Have you analysed every single post ever made on Mumsnet, assigned it a number on a 'sanctimony' scale, and concluded this one is at the top?

Just accept the accolade, Apparition.

No need for a victory lap . . .

Hard to find much 'joy' to sponge up on a thread where some posters have been making horrible jokes about life-limiting illness, subjecting me to vicious tirades about random posts other people have made on the subject of religion, and suggesting that because I don't agree with them, it must mean I don't have a single friend in the world.

'Schadenfreude' seems a more fitting term than 'joy' for much of this thread, but I suppose that's human nature, sadly.

Litrally NO one did that... you have worked yourself into a lather over something you entirely made up in your head and now can not accept that litrally non of that happened (well except the religeous argument bit but that wasnt even about you) and you just made yourself look silly and get upset over something YOU made up.

AnApparitionQuipped · 18/11/2022 12:44

I draw your attention to post · 15/11/2022 18:19 - now deleted - vile joke about dementia; post 15/11/2022 19:00 - accusing me of making comments about someone's religion, which I'd never even mentioned and post -Yesterday 20:22 - suggesting I am incapable of forming functional relationships.

Why don't you read the thread before commenting on what has and has not been said?
